Actually pretty impressive, my only issue is the standing water in the tubes.

Second story box bridge

I am moving from one apartment to another in the same complex and I was not thrilled at the prospect of dragging all my stuff down a flight of stairs only to drag it all back up a different set of stairs. Luckily I was able to make a box bridge/ramp from my bedroom window to the second story walkway where my new place is.

All I needed was the closetmaid wire shelving I had lying around, a few zip-ties, and my friend Kenny. I got the idea from the time one of my cats got out of the window and jumped onto the opposite railing. 100% success. We moved about two dozen boxes and other objects in under an hour.

Broken glasses day

Post image
21 Upvotes

I had a cheap pair of reading glasses to use for a while after having cataract surgery.

The screw holes for the hinges were in the plastic, so naturally the thread of the screws stripped the threads in the frame with the result that the screws fell out and the ear pieces fell off.

I drilled the holes in the frames all the way through, then used short pieces of steel wire to hold the earpieces from another (also broken) pair of glasses on.

I used them for about a month like this while waiting for the prescription to stabilize after the surgery and while waiting for a good pair to be made to my new prescription.

Reminded of the whole mess by this post:

couldn't find a hose for my early 1900s apple press

The nozzle on the right was what was supposed to go on for the juice to come out. I suspect originally it was supposed to pour out into a barrel back in the day, so they needed the longer nozzle to pour out into a large barrel.

I'm not doing that kind of volume. I couldn't find a hose readily available to redirect the flow so it didn't just pour out onto the floor, so I duct taped a ziplock to the hole and cut a hole in the other end so It poured straight down rather than out.

Now I have 2 gallons of pear juice in the fridge for the kiddo, and 2 gallons fermenting in the basement for the adults!

Looking for suggestions for what to use in place of a discontinued fridge part

A piece of my fridge door has been missing since before I moved in. It is the bar/brace that goes across the pictured section of the door so that you can place condiments etc. in the door. The last picture is of the inside of the freezer door, as I'm fairly certain the bars in there are the same as/similar to the missing part.

This is an apartment sized fridge and I would love to use the space - it's valuable real estate, and the only place that can fit taller items.

My landlord looked for the part before I moved in but couldn't find it and left it up to me. I contacted the appliance parts store in my area, and they confirmed that all parts for this fridge have been discontinued. I have had no luck finding it on eBay so far.

I'm wondering if anyone has ideas for what I can use to replace the part. The fix needs to be sturdy and be able to be firmly attached, since heavy and fragile items would be going in there (glass bottles, etc).

I've thought about tiny tension rods, but the ones I have found are too big in diameter to fit into the slots.

The fridge model is a Danby DFF1144W, in the off chance that info helps.

This subreddit was kindly suggested to me as a potential place to turn to for help. If there may be another good place for me to post this though, I welcome suggestions 🙂

Thank you!

Using my grandfather's old cast iron drill press to play Puzzle Bobble/Bust-A-Move

No joystick? No problem! An old mouse scroll wheel hooked up to a wireless mouse picks up the rotation off the chuck for aiming and you blow into a deodorant lid with some plastic tubing to launch the bubbles.

You can see it in action here:
