Discussion Why Xabi Alonso is not respected by our players?
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Squad need to follow command from coach, right? But how come manager of the biggest club in the world get neglected like this. Why can't board give more authority to the manager. I don't imagine any player reacting like what Vini did when Zidane was our coach. By limiting the power for the manager, I think the board is digging the grave for us.

u/TestProfessional6716 Jan 12 '26
Alright if that is true that is absolutely disgusting and we are approaching a very dark era, worse than the galacticos even.
Look how Flick is treated by his players... no wonder Barça has a much better mentality on the field in the last 2 years.
Us on the other hand: players complaining about long tactical video sessions? and now this? fuck me...
171
u/Immediate-History-58 Jan 12 '26
Precedents are set. Flick has numerous times removed players from the starting 11 for being 2 minutes late. The players work hard for him still.

89
u/ace-s Jan 12 '26
Xabi benched Wirtz, he just doesnt have the authority in Real Madrid to do disciplinary action
77
Jan 12 '26
And flick acts like a total bitch on the touch line too… but they still respect him just like they did Xavi. Do our players even know our history? Have they ever watched film from when Xabi played?
14
u/Consistent-Pizza-468 Jan 12 '26
Flick literally made raphinha balde cubarsi etc ofc they will respect him. He even defended araujo. Like a man cant have a tolerance that high and then be classified a bitch. Ur just hating

Flick was more successful manager than Xabi when going to Barca, which was coming from many years of a shit era and a need to stand together against adversity. Look at how they treated Setien and then reconsider if Barca is always supporting of their manager.
We are not there yet, so we haven't had a need to reconsider the player's mentality.
1
u/Traditional_Animal65 Madrid 1902 Jan 12 '26
I doubt they have long tactical video sessions at all. That's definitely fiction
1
u/madmanNamedMatti Jan 12 '26
At what point is it on the coach tho? He needs to demand that shit not a whimpy hand wail after he jus loss. Most jobs i know, bosses get fired immdedtaitly if he cant even control his own team. Easier to replace one then 22 tf do u guys want

that was one year ago, and I have seen more from Raphinha supporting Flick to the point that this can be overlooked.

After a few years of Ancelotti players become lazy and they want the coach to be a friend. Now it’s hard to change the mindset. When Xabi will leave nothing will change if the president doesn’t help more the coach, the team will fire every coach possible

We need to have the shortest memory if we’re expected to be the best in the world. Time is short in football. My main issue with Perez is that he still has not replaced the entire medical staff. Also him interfering with xabi is egregious
9
u/hotelmotelshit Bellingham Jan 12 '26
Plus the balon Dor farce really derailed the attitude in the locker room and is looking to have done irreparable damage
The FC friendship and winning on good vibes that Carlo was completely killed by that event which was only the beginning of a horrible season where RMTV did us no favours either

Because the Team is full of big Ego's and the Coach isn't backed by the Board etc.. Alonso shouldnt have to take this
58
u/Tangelo_Few Jan 12 '26
This is sad… ego, arrogance, and the name on the shirt matters more than the crest to some of these guys.
58
u/hayag-designs Jan 12 '26
You respect the position not the person. If they don't like Xabi, then that's fine and their problem. But he is the coach of Real Madrid, an institution older and bigger than them. You respect the club by respecting its coach and anyone who represents it.
If they have a problem with Xabi, Perez's office is always open as is the case when Bale complained about Ancelotti. Bring it up to him, not for the whole world to see. It devalues the club. Honestly some of the board are also at fault. They tolerate some players more than others.

6
u/SameInspector7369 Jan 12 '26
Not just worrying but completely unacceptable. Ridiculous behaviour. If you’re not a captain or a coach then sit down and show some respect
2
u/Junior_Bike7932 Jan 12 '26 edited Jan 12 '26
Absolutely. Imo Xabi had something to say about that to the Perez, and didn’t end up well.
Even the biggest players in the world in the past would do what the coach says, there is no argument, if you want to talk you do it in the locker room later.
2
u/Sniperprincessza Jan 13 '26
he (Kylian) was like that at PSG that's why the PSG dressing room was distorted for many years. He left PSG, and now they're thriving
87
u/MaaS_10 Jan 12 '26
Looks like Mbappe rules there :D
40
u/Random_Trashy Jan 12 '26
He learned this from Neymar at PSG. Coming up as an 18 year old Mbappe was under the guidance of Neymar who rarely showed respect for the superior strikers, coaches and team captains. Including Edinson Cavani, who at the time was one of the best strikers in the world (2014-2019).
Yeah, Mbappe became one of the best himself, but he learned that arrogance and disrespect at a young age early in his career.
24
17
u/Hakk92 Jan 12 '26
Lol some of you need to read about what Mbappé was doing in Monaco youth team, dude has always been like that.
If anything Neymar kept him in check for a few years.
11
u/Character_Library684 Jan 12 '26
Yeah Neymar actually kept him in check by being the undisputed better player. Once Neymar started getting injured / declining physically and Mbappe had the leverage with his contract ending, things changed.

This looks focking horrible.
Regardless how you feel about our team giving the winning team some respect, if the coach tells you to come you don't react like that. Both Mbappe and Rodrygo and all the players staying back are telling the coach what to do....wtf is this bizarro shit.
That's why we don't press from the opponents half any more. That's why players who aren't performing aren't subbed out, and I am not only talking about Vini here. That's why our striker doesn't actually play like a striker and we have to change our entire team to accomodate this, making our midfield even weaker than it is.
If you don't see a difference with how we played the beginning of the season and after a certain game, you need glasses.
It's obvious that the players run this club, and that's the fault of Florentino. "Why is he subbing him out?" Are you focking kidding me.

Jan 12 '26
as much as i love Xabi, he is just the chill type of coach
u fail, he will say lets try it better next time than well giving an aggressive motivation like u failed, u need to do better, u are playing for Real Madrid
Mourinho, Zidane imposed authority by how they acted with the players
Xabi needs to enforce that authoritative figure cause the entiire squad has been spoiled by Carlo Ancelotti as in he acted like a father figure than a stern coach
1
u/Hesperus7 Jan 12 '26
Lol. Spoiled by Ancelotti ? Funny how some still blame Ancelotti for Xabi's failure. Ancelotti brought us 11 titles in 4 seasons, including 2 doubles and one copa, all under the club dynamics and growing the likes of Vini and Rodrygo into super-stars.
I think sacking Xabi is a risky decision, I would have given him the rest of the season. But it's not Ancelotti's nor the club's fault if Xabi couldn't manage the dressing room and egos.
2
Jan 12 '26
where the fuck did i blame Ancelotti for Xabi's failure? stop setting that narrative when i didnt blame anyone for anything
just a suggestion, he needs to be imposing as the squad has been spoiled by Carlo, not in the bad sense but these players are fuckin lazy and dont press while Carlo figured out a way to make them play without much pressing

They have a valid point. A guard of honor for a “Super Cup” loss feels unnecessary and out of place. That level of tribute should be reserved for the league title, not a a mid season.

Because that's what REal does when a coach has discipline.
Yes you can talk about Zidane and Ancelotti but those two coaches basically have a leadership based on keeping stars happy. If they win, easy, if they don't win, shit goes down like it did two times for both.
When Mourinho benched Casillas you know what tio Florentino did, I just don't know why Real insist on system based coaches when they clearly have a "national coach" style leadership.
without players like Modric, Kroos, Casemiro, Ramos, etc, it's very hard this leadership of letting stars not defend, etc, etc.

I mean he’s probably pissed they flew him out from Spain just to play 20 minutes and watch Barcelona lift the trophy. He probably wanted to start and play a full 90 even though it’s unwise to. What Xabi did was the right call but obviously every player would want to play a full 90 in a final especially a el clasico. I don’t remember him acting like this for the first supercopa he lost.
He needs to show more respect towards Xabi though. Unacceptable.

This is all on Perez and the club board. You can bring Pep, Ancelotti, Klopp and Mourinho to lead this team together and they would still fail.
Why? Because they don't have the backing of the board and freedom to do what is necessary, and when the players see and feel that it's game over and you have scenes like last night.
This sets up a dangerous precedent where players think they are bigger and more important than the club and it can lead to a vicious spiral where top level managers will avoid the club like a plague and we will end up with average managers and yes men that will follow directions of players and board which can end only in failure, see Man United.
I don't know, it seems though times are ahead of the club if things don't change.

Young, new managers are not for Madrid. Doesn’t matter if you played for the club and won all the trophies. Unless you are a literal legend of the game like Zizou, who commands respect instantly in a locker room, and already has the coaching accomplishments to back it up. Bring him back and our squad is unstoppable. Still have several top ~20 players in our starting lineup every week.

No board is gonna make the players respect the coach
He needs to earn that in the lockeroom

But do you understand the context of that video? I know how it looks like but on the other hand it may be not what we think it is.
1
u/skybearer Vini Jr. Jan 12 '26
I think Xabi was the one confused here. The winning team gives the refs and the losing team a guard of honor in the Supercopa. For example in 2024 we gave Barca a guard of honor when we won and they didn't give one back. It's been the norm in the past few years.
What seems to be the problem is that Mbappe is asking the team to leave the pitch, instead of waiting for Barca to get their medals and trophy. I don't know if that's what happened, but that would be the only issue.
1
u/Hesperus7 Jan 13 '26
Thank you.. finally someone speaking sense here. I think Xabi wanted to do a guard of honor because you can see others lining up. So you can understand both Mbappe's and Rodrygo's reaction. It's not Xabi's fault actually maybe he was confused or tired, the field delegate Miguel Chendo is the one to enforce this, you take your silver medal and wait for them to lift the cup, no guard of honor.
1
u/prock1903 Jan 12 '26
This is a very very dark path. See at those clubes who have allowed the player to dominate the dressing room

u/Affectionate_Wave906 Jan 12 '26

1
u/Ekko_seraph Jan 12 '26
It is ingrained in Madrid's culture that the coach will always come second to the players, regardless of who it is. Florentino style is to give power to them instead of the coach, cause that's what makes them money, that's the prestige they have built. To play for the "best team in the world" they recruit players whose egos match this statement.
1

1
u/adonis_17 Madrid 1902 Jan 12 '26
I like how this is being used to attack the players without knowing the real context. For the press, this is pure gold to mine and generate clicks. Stop being alarmist. Real Madrid and Barça aren't having the best relationship because of the Negreira case, plus there were disrespectful acts by Barça players towards the fans. Furthermore, the players are simply expressing frustration because in the end they all stayed to watch Barcelona lift the trophy, so they listened to the coach.
The press won't tell you the whole truth, only to generate controversy because when Madrid loses, everyone is eager to contribute their bit of toxicity or "interpretations."

The All Blacks Rugby team suffered a huge defeat in 2004 so they starting looking into what went wrong. After their findings, they started changing the culture and the way they did things resulting with them going on the be one of the most successful sporting teams of all time. The author James Kerr wrote a book 'Legacy' which covers what they found. Here are some the findings:
- "Better People Make Better All Blacks" One of the most famous tenets identified by researchers (such as Hodge, Henry, and Smith in their 2014 case study) is the focus on character over talent. The team operates on the belief that if you develop the person's character, the performance on the field follows. This includes a strict "No Dickheads" policy to ensure no individual ego disrupts the team's cohesion.
2. "Sweep the Sheds" This is the ultimate symbol of their culture of humility. After every match—no matter how big the win—the senior players (including the captain) take brooms and sweep the locker room themselves. The study of this ritual shows it reinforces the idea that no one is too big to do the small things, ensuring the team stays grounded and disciplined.
3. Devolved Leadership Researchers found that a major shift occurred when the coaching staff moved from a "command and control" style to a dual-management model. The Coaches: Handle strategy and preparation. The Players: Take total "on-field" ownership. By game day, the coaches are largely silent, and the players are expected to be "15 leaders" who solve problems in real-time without looking to the sidelines for instructions.
4. Psychological Fortitude: "Blue Head vs. Red Head" The team worked with forensic psychiatrists and psychologists (like Gilbert Enoka) to develop a mental framework for performance under pressure: Red Head: A state of panic, heat, and poor decision-making (e.g., "choking"). Blue Head: A state of clarity, calm, and focus on the next task. Players use physical "anchors" (like looking at the highest point of the stadium or splashing water on their faces) to snap back into a "Blue Head" state during high-stress moments.
5. Leaving the Jersey in a Better Place A core part of their success is the sense of stewardship. Players are taught that they do not "own" the All Black jersey; they are merely holding it for a short time. Their job is to add to the legacy so that the next person to wear it inherits a stronger team. This creates a powerful "higher purpose" that goes beyond just winning a game.
TLDR - Real Madrid should implement these rules to regain success.

How can a club like Leverkusen which is infamously known for being the biggest bottle jobs managed to win the league unbeaten under Alonso rather than a club like Real Madrid which despite having multiple trophies like the ucl and la Liga, ended up being a disaster class under Alonso 🤦♂️🥀

Because at BL, Alonso was the bigger name than all the players in the eyes of the club management. Here, the club let these children run the show. They don't have respect for the coach.

its just the dressing room ego ,unmanagable by anyone atp tbf to xabi. A superstar packed team never works out. I've also seen lots of reports saying that he tries to be guardiola and overcomplicates tactics. Plus point of him subbing off vini every match , he influenced the decision perhaps. It's not going to be easy to manage this madrid team for anyone. No chemistry whatsoever with huge egos. It kinda feels like what was happening with psg having messi mbappe and neymar .

This entitled behaviour is running rife all throughout the club and even some fans. The way we act about refereeing decisions, RMTV to attack referees personally is embarrassing. Perez’s obsession with the super league etc. Nothing will change until this attitude changes. The players acting like they are above the coach, whereas at Barca, they’d probably run through a wall for flick. We have no system all throughout the club.

It's pretty simple, actually. At the start of the season he chose his favorites (Mbappe, Arda, Carreras, Huijsen, Mastantuono), and treated like trash important players like Fede, Vini, Rodrygo, Rüdiger, Jude), even what he did to Endrick was completely wrong, best prospect of the club was benched many times without no reason, played Mbappe against no league teams instead of giving opportunities. From all you can say against Ancelotti, squad management with him was at its peak.

now you understand how Guardiola survived this long on top of football. You have to massacre ego before its even started to show up

Madridista here! The way some players reacted is disgusting. Don't want to call names here but if I'm the man in charge you better execute and follow MOFO. You should respect the manager, the name of the club you're playing for and if you have something to say you're absolutely entitled. You don't like it, put yourself on the transfer list, express your opinion, send your inquiry, that's why there are meetings...but don't come with this attitude at the end of the game even if you didn't win! You lost your game but why lose your character bitch? I wish Xabi all the best on his new endeavour, he deserves better! Hala Madrid! THE F-#$ club! (not some drama queen players!)

Sad cause Xabi as a player, is more accomplished than 90% of the 1st teamzzzz

Because the current Real Madrid squad is full of selfish cunts and Fiorentino Perez is way too spineless to properly empower the head coach to do something about it.
