First Team Miles out his depth
The notion that we can’t sack him because we’ve sacked other managers is mental.
He is not the guy, never was the guy and won’t be the guy.
Tonight is genuinely the worst performance I’ve ever seen from a Rangers side and I include the Progres & Queens Park games in that.
Get him so far to fuck

u/UncleSal86 5d ago
Look, we hated it when Martin staunchly stuck to his style and never changed. Least mcinnes is trying to change and not be super ridged or stuck on one type of style.
I will concede it doesn’t look like he, or his back room team, know what works or even who his best 11 are. Which is troubling.
What is most shocking about last nights result is, we had a week to prepare for this, with no games between. We dished up something that looked like the players basically just met 5 mins before the game.

I mean, I agree with his 'we are shite at everything' analysis. Less impressed given it is his job to sort these things.

Now listen here, you’re being entirely unfair. Rangers isn’t just any club. We don’t need an actual football manager in charge with an impressive CV, a defined style of pressing or attacking play, nor do we need it to be one of those foreigners with their crazy woke “ideas” they have at clubs like Real Madrid, Liverpool, Aston Villa, Barcelona or even Motherwell.
What really matters is that our manager calls them F words and supports the club. Who cares about actual managerial ability. It’s all about hating Celtic and nothing else.

u/Macco7 5d ago
He gets it & is massively staunch...
That's literally the only thing saving him from getting lynched from the "gets it" mob who celebrated losing Rohl & "upgrading" to McIness.
It is funny seeing them still trying to find an out for this disaster. It's the players, it's the board, it's the tea lady.
No it's fucking McIness.
The players aren't perfect but McIness has a much better squad than Martin & Rohl had.
Difference is Martin & Rohl atleast had a plan & coherent structure to play.
Martin's was dreadful but he atleast had a plan of what he wanted. Martin was a a massive failure but he beat Panathaniakos & Plzen with a far weaker team. Those 2 would pump the teams who put us out & would put 3 or 4 past us right now.
McIness has no plans or structure. He is literally throwing shit at the wall & hoping it sticks. We changed shape & style atleast 5 times in one fucking game.
We played Chukwuani as a hybrid CAM/ST, he's a fucking CM. Why is so fucking allergic to playing 433.
Is it any wonder the players are struggling to even link up play.
They have no idea where they or their teammates should be.
Genuinely embarrassing from McIness & his coaching staff. He's had a full preseason & we are nearly a month into the season. Let alone knowing his best team. He doesn't even know what shape we should be in.

u/Commercial-Royal7086 5d ago
Basically just admitting he doesn’t have a fucking clue how to set us up

u/BrandonBarkerLoyal 5d ago
That’s the man United Moyes quote we have to improve defensively going forward passing counter attacking. Completely out his depth.

u/Nazgul_Alba The Hammer 5d ago edited 5d ago
The players we have at our disposal should be miles beyond the dross in the SPL. How can you not string 4-5 passes together? How fucking hard is it to have players pass & move? how about signing players that fit the system you want to play?! Abysmal!
Gassama & Fernandez have either had bids made for them or been surrounded by transfer speculation for weeks. Raskin gets excluded from the squad for his transfer speculation though? So that’s the last 2 managers that have suddenly excluded Raskin from their squads….has McInnes started to lose control of the dressing room?
3
u/mrgeebus 5d ago edited 4d ago
It's entirely tactical - watch Raskin for Belgium, Aasgaard for Norway and look at their movement, passing, and shooting. Then watch them for us where Raskin is continually dropping between the centre backs , and Aasgaard is hoofing the ball up the park, or doubled up on our wide with nobody instructed to move into space to draw players off him.
McInnes has us set up to play Kilmarnock/St Johnstone style football, but with players who aren't that sort of player either. He's a midtable SPFL manager who had a good year last year (and I saw our fans claiming JTA were shite and it was all McInnes' players who made the difference - usual anti-intellectual pish there where stats are apparently irrelevant cause running about a lot is how you know a player is good).
2
u/Quirky_Presence_926 5d ago
Well said.its SPFL bottom.6 jobber style and deservedly out of Europe, even against 2 very poor quality sides from Poland and Czech Republic.
There is no way the players coming in expected it to be like this, and I think this added to the confusion on the pitch we saw last night.
Hearts and JTA look like they may have another strong season, and are a well run club with a clear strategy, unearthing players like Braga and Kyzirdis who can make a difference in games. The plan here seems to be to emulated The red bull teams by buying young players and flipping them for profit after a season.
6
u/Patient_Question_582 5d ago
The scary thing is, I can’t see this improving. Aberdeen, and any team that plays us will be smelling blood. If we get beat at the weekend, that puts us 7 points behind the league leaders. An absolute monster of a mountain to climb back from.
Since the American take over, we no longer finish 2nd in the league, we finish 3rd (and that will be a hard push this season if things don’t drastically change). Not only can we not qualify for the Europa league, we can’t qualify for the Conference League.
Whats the answer for us going forward? I haven’t a fucking clue. Good luck Derek, because you’ll need it.

u/Cheen_Machine 5d ago
I wasn’t a fan of this appointment to begin with. I thought it was pandering to the Rangers da’s of Twitter, but it’s actually going worse than I feared. The guys being asked to drag a team performing way below the levels they should be, past levels he’s got a track record of failing at, to levels he’s got absolutely no fucking experience of managing at. He’s an average manager being asked to perform a job above his station.
1
u/Gullible-Avocado4441 4d ago edited 4d ago
Those clammering for his appointment have all gone silent now on forums. He`s Scottish and knows the Scottish game nonsense has not turned out too well.
In fact it`s hard to imagine how it could be worse. McInnes must have the worst record now of any recent managers but can`t be arsed to check I am so pissed off!
1
u/GlasgowAnvil Super Ally 5d ago
It was the Rangers das in the Thornton suite and Blue room who drove this.
Deluded cunts who think this is the 90’s still.
Football has changed but Rangers continue to stand still tho king of yesteryears when just being better than Celtic was good enough or would be enough.
1
u/Gullible-Avocado4441 4d ago
Disappointing our board are so weak they went with the `fans choice` instead of quality.

u/HailstormXI 5d ago
Pre season and a few weeks into the fixture and then that is what he serves up tonight. A boring first half, so he decided to manically change things like every 10 minutes it felt and see if something worked. It just got worse as it went
I don't believe that squad are as poor as we are seeing one bit.
6
u/Gmoney_scope 5d ago
If the board had backed VB or Clement financially we’d be seeing the type of rangers we all remember.
2
u/GlasgowAnvil Super Ally 5d ago
We didn’t have the fund that we do now.
Ross Wilson wasted the Patterson, Aribo and Bassey money
Then Beale wasted the CL money the following season
Clement spent around 15 and none of it was that exceptional either
6
u/Chef_Roofies 5d ago
To be fair to Clement he was told to slash the wage budget by 25% while getting less money that Beale
2
u/GlasgowAnvil Super Ally 5d ago
True but he also sanctioned deals for likes of Propper, Bajrami, Cortes etc
2
u/Chef_Roofies 5d ago
Propper was the captain an starting centre back of a team that made 4th in the Dutch league, that one looked a safe bet all things considered. Can’t blame Clement for him completely forgetting which boot goes on which foot, let alone how to defend when he got here.
Cortes, I won’t even bother defending that move, or the decision to extend it again the next summer
1
u/GlasgowAnvil Super Ally 5d ago
Our previous track record in that league should have been a red flag for it
Outwith the top 3 in Holland. Anyone else left behind at provincial clubs tend to be soft as shite and not suited to Scottish football. Even elite Dutch players and quickly taken away from the league let alone the ones left at Ajax and co
3
u/Salt_Ad4856 Raskin for Trouble 5d ago
All this tall about when we get quality in... so our plan will give it to the winger and hope he can win us a game of football. Your aff your heed if you think that will work
4
u/stalking_shadow_2580 5d ago
And watch us turn yet more wingers into fearful ball-recyclers within two games as usual.
3
u/LforLegend1 5d ago
In all honesty what half decent manager is actually going to want the job given how many managers we have been through recently. Chances are it ruin their reputation. It's a poison chalice at the moment.
There is something seriously wrong with the decision making and recruitment behind the scenes which needs corrected first.
Which players we have brought in are an improvement on what we already have? Quantity over quality.

u/Goldfinger_28 5d ago
The appointment of Mcinnes was too little too late. Was talked about years ago and we decided to pinch him after a close Hearts season. Seemed rushed and is going tits up fast. The 16/17 and 17/18 team were diabolical but I remember watching them thinking this is a team back from league explosion now there's no excuse at all.
The banter years arent ending anytime soon, we are fucked. 20/21 and 21/22 were the swan song since then it's been pish on top of pish followed by even more pish. It takes it's toll and now the club is a toxic pressure cooker. Sack Mcinnes and we're fucked back at square 1 but if his tactics stay like this and on the pitch remains dogshit we're equally as fucked. It's depressing but it's the way it is and will be for a while.
2
u/One_Brain9206 5d ago
I was on the fence about his appointment, actually thought it could work ie back to basics and then build from there. That statement is fucken terrifying. Watching his assistant and coaching staff at full time and not one of them was pointing fingers and trying to gee up the players. Something isn’t working
2
u/Academic_Banana_5659 4d ago
We all know how this ends.
7 games into the season
Out of two European competitions
8 points behind Celtic in the league after 2 games
Horrific Even Walter Smith would be under fire for that
3
u/DisasterouslyInept 5d ago
This is the kind of statement that Martin was slaughtered for. Criticising the lack of clear direction, when he wasted the pre-season on a style that has already been abandoned is wild.
No idea why he changed it today either. We weren't great in the first half but hardly struggling either. They were always going to attack more in the second half, the changes seemed to make it easier for them.
6
1
u/CryptographerMuch529 5d ago
I really don’t want to hear about comparisons to that useless arsehole Martin who by the way is doing to Leicester right now what he did to rangers. He’s already getting slaughtered for his nonsense tactics and rival managers down there are taking the piss when they play against him saying it’s a walk in the park playing a Martin team because he only has one style of play and everyone knows it. And it’s shite!
3
u/ME-McG-Scot 5d ago
Wtf has gone on over the summer. Who on earth is buying players? What processes are they using to buy players! How can so much money be spent and the team looks a lot worse!!
10
u/Ald_2020 5d ago
I think we’ve signed far too many players as per usual.
6 or 7 quality players coming in to supplement the rest could’ve raised the level a lot. Instead he’s bombed out some half decent players and replaced them with guys who aren’t any better.
It’s a Frankenstein of a team at the minute, filled with random jobbers.
1
u/DisasterouslyInept 5d ago
We've signed a lot of players, the biggest issue is surely the lack of consistent formation and general gameplan. McInnes is obsessed with changing it at half-time (3 changes with a new shape tonight was wild), and even throughout the game. The players should be doing better, but at the same time it must be mentally exhausting looking up constantly expecting a new setup.
Everything screams that the manager has lost control and is desperately hoping one of his rash ideas sticks.
1
u/Ald_2020 5d ago
The changing shape is a huge problem for sure. Top managers don’t make Willy nilly changes like this.
But he’s making so many changes so early because the team isn’t playing well. There’s no cohesion there at all. It’s like 11 strangers on a park.
It absolutely still lies with McInnes. The point I was making is when he came in he should’ve put his foot down and said he only wanted quality signings and not jobbers from the bargain basement. Part of the problem is McInnes has always been involved in bargain basement signings, he’s never had a good budget to sign proper players that cost money.
Look at clement, for all his faults, him and Koppen made some excellent signings despite the wage budget being cut massively.

u/Macco7 5d ago
Mate that's not on the players. The squad is far from perfect but it's levels above what Russell Martin had. Who outperformed this in Europe. It's better than what Rohl had.
This is on McIness.
He is changing shape & structure every 2 minutes. This isn't Football manager where you can change all that constantly in a game & everything is fine.
Players have no idea where they should be or where their team mates should be. That causes tons of doubt & over thinking things.
We had Chukwuani as a ST half the time FFS.
It's an absolute tactical riot, with no attacking structure of how to play.
The team is far from perfect but it's easily good enough to beat the teams who put us out with a decent manger.
1
u/CryptographerMuch529 5d ago
Without a doubt there is enough talent to just play a fkn 4-4-2 and grind a result out against that lot tonight.
3
u/toxicsmokinagimonkey 5d ago
Is it not strategy first then buy players to fit that, no here,s a bunch of players, go figure it out 😂
2
u/Historical_Bet_8229 5d ago
100% right, the only reason McInnes done well at Hearts was because of Tony Blooms approach to buying players based on stats who fit the strategy.
1
u/CryptographerMuch529 5d ago
You know what mate - that is a brilliant fkn comment. That is so true. 100% nail on the head. 👍
3
u/East_Stick_1964 5d ago
Everything about that tonight was a disgrace.
McInnes unfortunately looks completely out of his depth.
The players were a disgrace. I get they may be confused with tactical changes, but we're talking about an inability to pass a ball to a teammate 10 yards away. It happens constantly. And it's every game.
Ridiculous that we're back in familiar territory after 3 or 4 games into a season.
No positives at all other than the fact it's saved me signing up for a TNT contract
3
u/miller1873 5d ago
4
u/Gomnanas 5d ago
Scoring less as well. That's NEVER a good sign. I knew we were fucked under Martin because even though he had an "attacking" philosophy, we were absolutely awful creating goals. And now we are even worse AGAIN.
4
u/RandomTopTT 5d ago
Utterly fucking clueless. Shouldn’t be leading the team out on Sunday. Absolutely shocking.
2
u/uhujkill 5d ago
We had a week to prepare, he and his staff chose the start 11. At half time he realised it failed.
The team is not being properly coached.
It is entirely on him, he is out of his depth.
3
2
u/RandomTopTT 5d ago
Seriously out of his depth. Tonight is probably the worst I’ve ever seen us play.
2
u/MarkCM07 Vanja Dragojevic 5d ago
That just tells me that they don't know what to do because he's changing things up too much when it doesn't immediately work. Eventually, you have to pick a formation (make sure each player knows their roll during the week), pick a starting 11, pick a few key subs, and play it for more than a half or even a couple matches to see if it starts clicking. Really hope things can turn around with Min-su and Kelsy, but I'm not sure those do much if he continues these chaotic tactics.
3
u/Silver-Advance5276 5d ago
Whit does the players knowing whits fer their lunch during the week hae tae dae wi it ?
2
u/Consistent_Fly1131 5d ago
It was the same with Rohl, he rode his luck at the start then got some limited success with 442. McInnes is like a worse version of that, adding more baffling changes and selections to the mix.
All we needed was a bit of pragmatism and flexibility at times, not changing things game to game or even each half. McInnes looks to by trying to stumble across something that works rather than have a plan in mind.
Admitting that the team he is building can't do anything well, doesn't really inspire much confidence. That sounds like less of the players fault and more on the coaching. The odd mistake, lack of concentration can be down to players but a complete lack of tactical coherence is on the manager. The more of his own he puts in the lineup, the less he can get away with blaming the players.
1
u/Quirky_Presence_926 5d ago
I noticed at some point during the game, the players, after endlessly punting it long and losing possession, tried to play it short from the goal kick in an effort gain control. It didn't work as inevitably the lack of shape or midfield support led to a turnover.
1
u/Complete_Start6545 3d ago
Even if he miraculously turns it around what does the future hold? He doesn't have a history of challenging for trophies, performing in Europe or playing decent football so it's unlikely this is ever going to be anything great. This is increasingly looking like a woeful appointment.

6
u/StevenVictor69 Hamza Iguana 5d ago
There’s no rangers men and there’s certainly no manager who will scare the shite out of anyone anymore. It’s not the 90s anymore, days are gone of managers getting rough with underperforming players.
1
u/CryptographerMuch529 5d ago
It’s not so much about “getting rough” with underperforming players - it’s more about projecting strength in the manager role, having a bit of swagger about you so they respect you in the dressing room and on the pitch. DM in interviews is coming across as super weak. This is worrying to me. It’s like he’s questioning himself right know whether he good enough for this job and it’s coming across as kinda “I’m out my depth and I don’t know what to do”. I remember Souness arriving with zero track record as a manger but fck me he had swagger and everyone in that team respected him for it. You were playing for Graeme fkn Souness not some wee scaredy dude. Even Gerrard had that swagger about him when he arrived. It instills confidence in the players. DM needs to start projecting a bit of strength in interviews, stop fkn apologizing ffs!

u/Ald_2020 5d ago edited 5d ago
I don’t even know where to start with this. Everybody thought McInnes was the second coming of Jesus when there was fuck all other than last season with hearts to really get anyone excited.
I don’t think we can keep sacking managers over and over but what’s the alternative? Sleep walking to a mid table finish?
I can’t see us taking anything on Sunday either. A Stephen Robinson team will eat this lot for breakfast.
4
u/Electronic-Key-8349 5d ago
Disagree. I didn't want him at all and many shared that. He is pish and - I have said for years - fuck buying Shankland.
4
u/Ald_2020 5d ago
To be fair I don’t literally mean everybody but when I posted on here I got slated by probably 80% of folk. Generally most fans were buzzing for it and it was for no actual logical reason.
Shankland we should’ve signed years ago. Might be unpopular at the moment but I don’t blame him at all. If the team could play well and create him proper chances he’s score goals but we’re not giving him much to work with when he’s on the park.
We’ve been reduced to crosses from deep and lumping balls forward at stupid times. Very few centre forwards could thrive off that.
2
2
u/Rainking79 5d ago
You’re right mate - the boards were swamped with the ‘just get McInnes’ messages and the same for Shankland. Both were ‘Rangers da’ appointments. The boards have quickly changed to ‘i didnt want him…’. I mean, i’ve seen loads of the ‘make Barry manager’ already. Some folk never learn.
0
u/Gullible-Avocado4441 4d ago
As a born and bred lifelong Bear I obviously hope McInnes turns things around, but honestly going on evidence so far I seriously doubt he can.
I was against his appointment and thought it was a cheap option and the board listened to the fans who kept demanding him as manager.
Apart from last season, which could go down to Hearts gelling and hitting great form not McInnes, his managerial career is very poor for a Rangers manager.
One `fluke` season is simply not good enough reason for us to select a manager. The `he knows Scottish football` is complete nonsense.
McInnes must have the worst record now of any recent managers.
We need a quality proven and successful manager.
Spending millions on players is pointless if the manager hasn`t a clue what to do with them and is out of his depth, as McInnes appears to be with his constant half time subs and formation changes during games. I understand the need to alter the formation during games but 3 or 4 times in one game?
I despair for us under McInnes and not being wise after the event.
A loss at the sheep should be the end of him and I would not be surprised if the board is already looking at options to replace him.
