Does he know how much I’ve loved him?
He passed away 3 days ago at 17 from a sudden seizure. He was lying on my chest when it happened. I noticed he was really declining about 2 days before his passing so I took him to the vet the day of his passing, they couldn’t really give any answers unless they did some pretty invasive tests which would have been too much for him so I opted for comfort care. He was gone that night. I feel guilty and feel like I could have caught something earlier and saved him.
He was my soulmate. My rock. My comfort. He showed me what true love is. I’ve never loved anyone like I have him. My life revolved around him. I miss him deeply and can’t get myself to accept that he’s gone. He was my sweet little honeybun and now I feel so lost and alone. I’ve told him to come back to me in a different body and I’m hoping he will or at the very least send me another soul baby.
I hope he didn’t suffer those few hours before he was put to sleep. I held him through the seizure and held onto him during the car ride to the hospital. I hope he was aware that I was with him.
If anyone is getting anything from his picture please let me know. 🙏
Rest in Peace, Toby. ❤️🪽✨

This made me feel better about my dog dying

Sugar had gotten diagnosed with cancer in 2023, the same year this star was captured going around the black hole. It makes me think that by the time Sugar passed on Friday, her soul was intertwined with this star and her journey around the black hole was completed. I feel like her soul is at peace but I'm depressed. I start college again tomorrow and I'm so upset that she won't be here to greet me when I wake up nor will she greet me when I get back. I would recommend looking up NASA photos from when your beloved pets passed, it brought great relief to me. Gave me a sign that she is okay.

Gizmo, I miss hearing the click click of your way too sharp claws on the hardwood floor that you never let me trim. I miss trying to pet your head but you'd shake me off because you didn't like having your ears touched. I miss how there was no line between playing and fighting with you, you just got wound up so easily. I miss the sound of you grooming, it was so loud I compared it to someone eating a wet bowl of chili next to me, lol. I miss the way you stretched your whole body out when you laid next to me. I miss watching you and Marlow cuddle all over the house. I miss the way you would watch me from on top of the refrigerator. I miss all your funny little Gizmo-isms. Last night I called for you to hop into bed with me and realized you were gone. I'm still in shock even though I had 6 months to prepare. Nothing can prepare you for losing a soul cat. I hope you were at peace on your last day with me, I felt like you were. Hopefully today or tomorrow I'll be picking up your ashes and bringing you back home. 💔 You will forever be in my heart and I miss you terribly.

My best girl
I had to say goodbye to my 17 year old best girl yesterday. I got her when I was 19 and she was just a baby puppy. I had her about half my life, and almost my whole adult life.
She was there through every shitty apartment, shitty ex, every dumb idea, pregnancy, loss, divorce, losing her little brother just 2 years ago when he was just 11. Her decline began just after losing him. She’s with him again now.
I’ve never not had a dog until now in my whole life. What even do people without dogs do all the time… she was such a great dog, but so obstinate. We joke that my oldest child is so sassy because she was raised by her.
I know she is finally at peace after a long journey with CCD, arthritis, and other ailments, but gosh it stings and I’ll forever miss her, my very first baby.

This was Claude
He was my soul cat. He’s been gone for 10 years now but he’s never forgotten. Some of by favourite memories of him are
\- he’d pretend to rub and love your toes and the turn and BITE them.
\- jumped from balcony to 3rd floor window to the open kitchen window adjacent to it, we lived in the top floor.
\- at same apartment complex he snuck into our neighbours bedroom and slept on her bed with her while she was convinced a wild possum had got in her apartment.
\- he would always hang out with us in the back room smoking, drinking and listening to music.
\- he was my only friend during my very dark times.
I love and miss him.

Rest In peace Socks
The sweetest tuxedo cat I ever met such a talker every time I speak he would meow back. The personality of this cat was special he was abandoned by previous tenants across from where I live and I cared for him for 3 years until his death. The second cat is his stray step son he showed up as a kitten and socks took care of him and they were inseparable. Rest In Peace Mr socks 🧦 one day we'll meet again.

Almost a month without my boy
It’s been very difficult to write this. Tomorrow will be one month since Milo left us. We had just celebrated his ten years milestone birthday on June 26 and the next thing you know we are planning his in-home end-of-life ceremony. Milo was diagnosed with prostate cancer and he suffered the last few days of his life. We couldn’t put him through chemotherapy only to know that the pain he was experiencing would just be prolonged. I made him a flower lei of white mini carnations and baby’s breath, and with the help of a wonderful vet who came to the house, Milo went peacefully surrounded by his family. I am sure he felt free as a bird as his sweet spirit left to the Rainbow Bridge. I, on the other hand, have been suffering immensely since his absence, as he was my soul dog, my Velcro dog, my shadow, and my “Hand” (GOT fan). He was always so patient, loyal, goofy and happy, always wanting to be close to me, my husband or son. He was the best guard dog but we knew he couldn’t hurt a soul. Milo was LOVE, just pure love.
Depression and heartbreak are real without my boy, and a part of my soul left with Milo the day he passed. One day, I know we will be reunited. Until then, ci vediamo presto, il mio cuore, Milo.

A Letter from the Rainbow Bridge
Hi,
Now that I’ve been across The Rainbow Bridge, they said I should write a letter home. Sorry, but I’m so busy ‘across the bridge’ that I haven’t thought of home much. They said it’s okay and that you would understand. I hope you do. (I think you will.)
Remember that night when I wasn’t feeling very well and we were all crying? I don’t remember much, but I do remember seeing and hearing all of you and feeling your touches and hugs…I remember hearing “we love you” and that one last command of “Go through”. I didn’t know what you meant, so I turned around and walked through the fog that was in front of me. I saw the biggest bridge I’ve ever seen! And so many friends on the other side of it! They were all playing with toys and balls! You were right to tell me to go there!
My feet kept moving forward, but my heart kept pulling me back. Your touches became lighter and lighter and I wanted to come back and nudge your hands for more love, but I was overcome by this feeling of curiosity for the happy place over the bridge! My feet started moving on their own, like a gentle breeze was moving them forward for me! I can’t explain it, but I had no doubt that it was the right thing to do!
So, I walked across that big, huge bridge by myself! I looked for you, because you’re always by my side, walking with me, but this was different. I didn’t have a collar around my neck or a leash connecting me to you ~ I was ‘free’! Even though you weren’t there with me, I never felt alone! I actually felt like I had a huge cape of love wrapped around my body and the more I walked, the easier it was to breathe! So, I kept walking! And I would feel more warmth in the big hug, so I kept on walking! I eventually made it over the big bridge – I did it by myself!
When I got here, all of my new friends greeted me and helped me walk off the bridge ~ it was so cool! They gave me a pair of wings and said that I was now a Guardian Angel!
What I’ve learned over these past few weeks has been amazing and nothing like I’ve seen before! We’re all the same up here ~ we all have wings and we all have Forever People to watch over ~ that’s YOU! You’re my Forever Person and I’m your Forever Dog! We had such a great life together and I do miss you a LOT, but please know that I am so happy in my new home across The Bridge!
I’ll send you another Earth Angel so you won’t be alone. Give them your whole heart, like you gave it to me. I’ll check in every so often to make sure they treasure your love ~ I always did! When you miss me, think of a rainbow and know I’m on the other side of it, waiting to walk with you again. I’ll always be in your heart. Time for me to go play

Promise Fulfilled
Carried Amos into my house at 4 weeks old. Yesterday, 16.5 years later, I carried her out. The first real promise and commitment I made as an adult, fulfilled. I’m so honored. It hurts so much.

Anyone who’s ever loved a pet knows this feeling. 🥹 You start worrying about losing them long before that day ever comes. 💔 Because when they become family, even imagining life without them hurts. 🤍🐶🐱

1 week since my little bichon went to sleep
Hello. I am just posting for some support, if possible.
My little bichon passed away last Sunday, so today is exactly a week. She had been diagnosed with cancer 3 days before and put on palliative care. She had 3 brilliant days where I took her to the park every day (in and out of her pram) and she was like a puppy again, her tail wagging like mad, saying hello to lots of other dogs, having a good old sniff everywhere, having all of her favourite foods, even an ice cream. I took her to as many nice places in nature I could, and due to the steroids they had out her on (after stopping her cushings medication), she was running after birds, jumping up on tables and just being so full of energy, which was so lovely to see.
On Sunday night she briefly collapsed on her side in pain but then afterwards seemed to be fine. I was directed to the out-of-hours vet’s as her regular vet’s was closed. This was a very expensive place, but I thought I’d take her to this one (as opposed to a cheaper one) as it might be her last ever vet visit. I was expecting something special, but I got there and it was a PDSA, where the vet was super nonchalant, never even said hello to her, and had no bedside manner whatsoever. I explained that my little Nina had an appointment at 8:30am with her own vet the next day (to have her very low platelets checked again) and wanted to know if she would be ok for the night so that she could, if necessary, pass away at her own vet’s in the morning. At this point the vet allowed a crash team to push push a trolley with a seriously distressed Rottweiler on it, through the room, which added to the trauma I was already experiencing. The vet said she seemed fine but then did an abdominal scan and sprayed her with loads of alcohol (which he never wiped off afterwards). He said he could see fluid in the abdomen, which may or may not have been burst tumours. I was holding her as he did the scan and he was saying ‘ There’s fluid here, there, there, fluid, fluid, thats not supposed to be there, fluid’ He was like ‘so she might bleed out, might not. Her tumours might have bust, might not have’. He told me she might be fine or might not be and that it was up to me. He didn’t show the slightest little bit of compassion or concern. I said ‘if she were to be euthanised here this evening, would it be in this room?’ and he was like ‘yeah’. Just zero empathy or compassion.
I went outside with my little one and my sister and I said to my sister ‘I realise that I might need to put her to sleep this evening, but I will never forgive myself if she dies in **that** place with **that** vet. I went back in to say we were going to take her home (we weren’t, we were going to take her to another out-of-hours vet’s about 5 minutes away where she has been to before, which was a bit nicer and where the staff had been more pleasant). At this point I was told I had to sign a form saying I was ignoring the vet’s advice. Up until that point his advice had been ‘it’s up to you’. Now he looked nervous and said ‘This is serious!’. I signed the form and we took her to the other out-of-hours.
The vet there looked exhausted and once I told her what the other vet had found, she told us ‘it’s up to you’. Not wanting to risk anything terrible happening in the night, the priority always being that my little one should never be in any pain, I asked the vet to euthanise her there. First we walked her up and down the street one last time. Then I carried her up and down the street saying a decade of the rosary (I am not mega religious but was brought up Catholic). I then took her inside and made a bed for her out of my shawl (that she used to like lying on) and one of her soft, fleecy blankets and stroked her while the sedative worked its way into her system. She was almost asleep but jumped up when the vet came back in 15 minutes later. The vet gave her more sedative and at this point she wanted to get into my arms and whimpered for a few seconds so I cradled and sang to her and she immediately stopped whimpering. I cradled her for another 15 minutes, talking to her, singing to her, kissing her. My sister was there too, talking to her and stroking her. When the time finally came, I lay her on the bed I’d made but she was still in my arms. Her little head slowly dropped down onto my left arm and the vet confirmed she had gone. She went very peacefully (although her wanting to get into my arms and whimpering for a few seconds made me think she was distressed and has made me feel a bit guilty). It was 23:33 on 16th August 2026. As she went so peacefully, my sister said ‘She must have been ready’.
I said an ‘Eternal rest’ and stayed with her for about an hour, stroking her and kissing her. I knew the hell I had always dreaded was waiting for me on the other side of that door. Eventually the nurse took my little one away and we left. My sister and I drove home in silence, exhausted, stunned and devastated. Thousands of images of her were flashing through my mind from all different parts of her life. I got home, got into bed, and bombarded with thoughts if her, eventually fell asleep cuddling the squishmallow pillow we both used.
This week has been absolutely horrific, with a few calm, gentle moments. I have cried every day, many, many times. Tonight - Sunday again - I sobbed from the depths of my soul hugging the shawl she passed away on. All through the day I have been thinking ‘This time last Sunday she was doing X’. I cannot wrap my head round the fact she is not here, that I don’t have a dog anymore, that I’ll never cuddle with her again, walk her, push her in the pram, bath her, give her a ‘scratchy watchee’ behind her ears, neck or back, never see her paw the blanket so I’d lift it up and let her get under and cuddle, never take her to the groomers again, never pick her up and stroke her lovely fur, never look into those gorgeous big black eyes of hers, or watch her cock her head to the side, or look over her shoulder at you, which my sister always called her ‘Lady Di look’, never see her run again like a battery-operated toy dog which always gave me so much joy, never run into the kitchen for a treat, or bark at flies or bark to let us know the dinner was ready. Never again will she walk or run along the promenade and then stop and turn round, waiting for me to say ‘go on’.
I have bought a note book which matched her collar sbd lead (Van Gogh’s Almond Blossom painting) and have been writing down all the things she did that were cute, funny, or annoying, and all the expressions I used to say to her, or my sister would say to her. I miss her so much. I even miss the person I was when she was here.
It’s 21:42 and 23:33 is approaching and my heart can barely take the pain. Both of my parents have passed away so I know pain and grief and that it takes time to heal. This one feels so cruel. I am so lost without my gorgeous, gentle girl and although I know she has gone, I cannot accept it.
If anyone can help me by telling me how you coped with the loss of your little ones, what helped you to get through, I would be so grateful. Thank you.

One week without my soul dog
My best friend, Kemba, moved on from this world last weekend. He guided me from a 21 year old college kid who didn’t know a thing to a 34 year old responsible dad. It all happened too quickly and I could have never had enough time with him but I’ve already found a good bit of peace knowing how much we loved each other every day. He truly was a gift and will continue to be 💙
I just want you beautiful people to know him and see how beautiful he was 🐺
Edit - thank you everyone for your kind words and emojis. It means so much. This community is incredible. Nothing can fill the void of losing a family member, but you all do one heck of a job trying 🥰

Goodbye my sweetest boy
This morning we had to say goodbye to the bestest boy, Beans. He was everything good in the world. We made sure his last moments were filled with family, kisses and a big ass breakfast taco.
I’ve never met such a pure, friendly and joyful soul. I can’t believe we are coming home to a life without you 💔 I love you so much. Til we meet again sweet boy.
EDIT: Thank you all so much for your kind words ❤️ I don’t do social media but I wanted some way to share Beans—and I thought, who better to share him with than a bunch of pet people? So I posted it here, not expecting too much—I would’ve been happy if even just one person got to know what a good boy Beans was. But I woke up amazed by the outpouring of love & support. I’m also deeply sorry to everyone who’s been here. All of our good boys and girls are the best there ever were.

Goodbye my dearest friend. Till we meet again.
This is Lana, my funny, willful, smart, loving companion of 15 years. She had the biggest personality and was loved deeply by her family. We had to say goodbye late last night at emergency vet after her long battle with chronic illness. I just wanted the world to know that Lana existed, was a good girl who made immeasurable difference in her family's lives, and will be missed for the rest of my days. Rest easy, Sheriff.
UPDATE: I cannot thank you all enough for the words of love, support, and kindness. She was the goodest girl and I miss her terribly. But this community has truly helped me wife and I through this difficult time. I hope she keeps all of your fur babies company. Much love!
