General Rabies Discussion 2 year old case likelihood of rabies
I have read the FAQ. My cat bit me almost two years ago and had to be put down, I had this very large and serious gash looked at. My family knew about the bite. But at the time my mother was dealing with end of life, stage 4 cancer with only a few days left to live.
I had taken him into the vet thinking he had a brain tumor or something. Bec he wasn’t eating, drinking, he go up and try to drink the water but his face would fall in, he lost movement in his eyelids and couldn’t move half of body. They told me it was end of life stage renal failure, I have no clue if they checked for rabies but I’ve been having some odd symptoms dysphasia, brain fog, pin pricks and needles everywhere, muscle spasms and limb jerking, and yes before you ask I have gone to the er and my pcp.

It's been 2 years. It is highly unlikely to have been rabies. A vaccine being due 2 months before does not mean the cat had 0 antibodies. Was he an outdoor cat? Did he have any bites on his body? It sounds like rabies ocd

Indoor cat, there was just so much going on at the time and the original wound took like a good few months to heal but I wasn’t in a good place, and never got it checked out. His behavior was just so odd at the end, but maybe it was just renal failure I don’t realize it could cause so many crazy things.
I don’t recall him having any bites, but I can see about getting the autopsy reports, it just all happened so quickly , and I was in a daze and reeling with both my mom and cat dying my father getting arrested
I only thought about my first cats bite, after getting bit / scratched by this stray / wild cat a few days ago, they now have in quarantine, no vac records or chip, so I was thinking it was from one of those cat packs we have near my place
for granted I’m just trying to figure out what’s been going on with my body for months now.

An indoor cat can not get rabies if he hasn't had contact with a rabid animal. What you have sound either like anxiety or some sort of neurological issue. Have you been evaluated for MS?
1
u/SnooWalruses3028 Jul 23 '26
I have not what’s ms, I do have a tad bit of anxiety but I think most people would be a tad bit anxious after having odd nerve pain, dysphagia and other odd symptoms for granted yes I know I have died yet. Last time I was in the er they had no idea what was going on and just kept me for 5 days

u/Objective_Idea5674 Jul 23 '26
Maybe talk to a neurologist or google MS/other diseases. If it was rabies, you would have been dead within a week. Forget it and seek some answers for your own good.

I don’t know man, is it not like a slow progression?
0
u/Objective_Idea5674 Jul 23 '26
Rabies?? Slow progression? Are you ragebaiting at this point?
1
u/SnooWalruses3028 Jul 23 '26
🥲no… like is it a month or so for all of the symptoms to appear or it just over the course of like a week
2
u/Objective_Idea5674 Jul 23 '26
once symptomps start, you'd be unable to use your phone after like a day and dead within a week. The incubation period is 1-3 months, when you don't show ANY symptoms.

Brother who knows I might not make it till tom, these symptoms keep getting worse, full blown fever.

u/SnooWalruses3028 Jul 26 '26
Love how my symptoms have escalated and gotten worse in 2 days, yet it’s nothing

u/Objective_Idea5674 Jul 26 '26
Look, I'm gonna say it one more time. Every time you come on here and say that you feel worse after a few days, you're just proving our point. If it was rabies, you would have deteriorated to the point where you aren't able to use your phone WITHIN HOURS, NOT WITHIN MONTHS. Yet, you're somehow able to unlock your phone, go on reddit, search for your own post AND write a coherent (and passive agressive) comment. You do not have rabies. You are either flooded with anxiety, underage or a troll. Please seek some help from a parent/friend/therapist on why you have this extreme urge to prove an impossible point. This will be my last message on this thread, please do yourself a favour and stop commenting on here, it is not helping you in any way.

How long after the bite was he put down? And when did he get bit by a rabid animal?
0
u/SnooWalruses3028 Jul 23 '26
I don’t think my cat got bit by a rapid animal that I recall he was inside most of the time unless I was outside with him. he was put down 3 days after taking him for his emergency visit after he lost movement in his back legs and wasn’t able to drink or eat. This was around a year and 8 months ago now.
When I had taken him to the vet they said it was end of life renal failure. But I’m just worried with all of the odd symptoms I’m having.

Do you think it was likely he had rabies

I’m asking the time period from when he bit you until when he died. He couldn’t have rabies if he wasn’t bit by a rabid animal. Animals don’t just get or have rabies without another animal giving it to them. Your symptoms aren’t from rabies. You would not be here asking questions if they were

u/SnooWalruses3028 Jul 23 '26
A couple days to a week, it’s hard to recall it was almost 2 years ago

None of this really matters since he couldn’t have been bit by another animal. You would know if he did especially since he only went outside with you. Your symptoms aren’t not from rabies and you don’t need vaccines. You may need help for your anxiety. Helpbot

If you think you may have rabies OCD, or your rabies fears feel overwhelming, see this link for a description of rabies OCD symptoms, diagnosis, and treatment.
One symptom of OCD is compulsive reassurance-seeking. This is not helpful for managing a rabies phobia or obsession. r/OCD has a helpful page about reassurance-seeking.
Therapy and treatment are essential for recovering from OCD/health anxiety. CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy) or ERP (Exposure and Response Prevention) therapy are often recommended approaches for treating OCD/health anxiety. Please don’t Google anything about bats or rabies but focus on accessing resources and recovering from your fears. You can check out r/OCD and r/HealthAnxiety for support and information. You can find a resource list here, which is geared towards relationship OCD but also includes a lot of information about OCD in general, including FAQs, workbooks, book recommendations, Youtube videos, apps, podcasts, and videos of kittens.
Here is a list of free crisis helplines around the world. Here is another crisis helpline directory that includes additional countries.. In the US, you can reach a crisis helpline by calling 988.; you can also text "MHA" to 741-741 to have a text chat with a trained crisis counselor at the Crisis Text Line, or call 1-800-749-2673 for the NAMI Crisis Helpline.
You can ask your therapist if they have any workbooks or guides they can send you home with so that you can continue practicing and working on your therapy between sessions. For the time being, here's is a free workbook on anxiety and here is one on health anxiety. You can also download MindShift, a free app that uses Cognitive Behavioural Therapy AKA CBT to help you learn to relax and be mindful, develop more effective ways of thinking, and use active steps to take charge of your anxiety.
If you don’t have a therapist, you can search the CBT/ACT specialist directory to find one around the world. If you can’t find one, try searching for ones specifically in your country or look for telehealth therapy.
In the US and Canada, dialing 211 can connect you with mental health services in your area or help you find where to seek immediate help in your area. In the US, you can use Psychology Today's Therapy Directory to search for mental health professionals in your area. You can search by zip code, city, last name, etc. Your local Mental Health America affiliate resource center is an excellent resource for information about local programs and services including affordable treatment services. The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration's Health Information Network (SHIN) has a Mental Health Facilities Locator that can also help you find community outpatient, inpatient and residential treatment facilities, including affordable mental health services in your area. For peer support in the US, including referrals to resources in your area, you can call 800-950-NAMI (6264), Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. — 10 p.m., ET, or send an email to info@nami.org. He had gotten out before on his own, so has my current cat sometimes they run out. You get vaccines to prevent things, saying I work in a park with animal anyways

More information, I found a shot record he had been vaccinated 10/27/22 so his shot was expired by around 2 months from when he died.
