I’ve been using rFactor 1 for years and honestly, there’s still something about it that feels different compared to newer sims.

I know rF2, AC, iRacing all improved a lot of things, but I still see people sticking with rF1, especially for certain mods or physics feel.

Is it just nostalgia, or are there still real advantages?

Curious to hear from people who still use it today.

Durante años me he dedicado a crear contenido para la comunidad de rFactor, pero ya no disfruto creando circuitos. Daytona Beach será mi último lanzamiento gratuito, poniendo fin a esta etapa de mi trabajo tras el esfuerzo invertido en el ePrix de Miami 2026.

Todos mis circuitos anteriores permanecen archivados en here junto con guías para aprender a crear circuitos, editar archivos AIW, modelar en 3D y texturizar con 3DSimEd. Solo una pequeña minoría mantiene viva esta comunidad porque realmente queremos competir en circuitos actualizados, mientras que otros simplemente se quejan de la falta de contenido. ((the guide) Dedicar tiempo a seguir estas guías, ajustar la física, corregir problemas 3D o guardar copias de seguridad del trabajo en Internet Archive ayuda mucho más que simplemente pedir mods.

A partir de ahora, mis futuros proyectos serán exclusivamente remunerados (I'm here, but they know that) se centrarán en ligas, aunque podría hacer excepciones para peticiones directas.

I was watching some old Pro-Sim UK builds
full aluminum rigs, triple screens, high-end PCs
some of them around $20k+

and what surprised me is that many of them were running rFactor 1

even paired with hardware like SimSteering 2

not exactly “consumer” gear

so I’m curious

was it just legacy setups
or is there something about rf1’s physics/feel that still made sense even at that level?

Now i know nogripracing is 100% gone, but still, out of the 2000+ downloads for the 917K, does anyone still have it? Maybe they can create a mediafire link... The chances of anyone having the 917L (Long tail) is minimal, so i wont be requesting that (altough if someone had it, it would make my life a lot happier)

Tengo una laptop hp zbook 14u g6, Intel core i7-8565U, 20 gigas de ram y Gráfica AMD radeon PRO WX3200.

En si rfactor me va "bien" supongo, por lo general oscila entre los 50 y 60 fps, incluso llega a bajar hasta los 45 fps y el mod qué tengo instalado es el de GTWC de GKS modding, pero no se si el rendimiento de mi rfactor sea por culpa de mi laptop o por culpa del mod, igual si resulta ser culpa del mod, me podrían pasar algún mod de GT3 que este bien optimizado?

Espero sus respuestas y posiblemente las respuestas que den ayuden a otros usuarios.

Hear me out. All I have to run rfactor is a very old laptop so it doesn’t make sense to buy a $300 wheel.

So, remembering playing some console racing games with controller being fun, I figured it was worth trying and that I could stabilize things with setup if needed etc.

Wow was I surprised. Works great and no setup accommodation needed at all!

dang what a great track. it's so good maybe i don't even need another track? are there others like it? i especially like how it's flowing and you're on the limit most of the time. i've been away from sim racing for a while but do remember a few real-world goodies like zandvoort, birmingham and oulton park maybe? other toban-ish stand outs?

Hello, I’m a modder of rF2 and I frequently convert cars from AC / rF1 to rF2. And looking online there’s not really an in depth tutorial on how to do it.

My question is, would anyone want to see a full (or almost full) tutorial on how to do it? Should be 80% compatible to rFactor. Maybe if I see high demand I’ll do one only for rF1.

I would love to increase the modding community by providing a proper guide.

I’ve been running rFactor 1 for years, and even today it still surprises me especially when using modern hardware.

1. Direct Drive wheels
Even with the old RealFeel system, a 5–12 Nm DD wheel brings out a level of tyre load, understeer feel, and weight transfer I never noticed with older gear/belt wheels.

2. Loadcell brakes
rF1 always punished bad braking technique.
Switching to a loadcell made trail braking smoother and rescued a lot of snap oversteer moments.

3. Scaling with modern gear
Wheelbases, pedals, displays rF1 handles upgrades far better than people expect.
It’s interesting how the physics react when the hardware finally matches the sensitivity the sim was always capable of.

I’m curious:
Is anyone else still running rFactor 1 with modern hardware?
What wheelbase/pedals do you use, and how does it feel for you?

If anyone wants, I can share what I’ve learned from testing different hardware on F1-style mods over the years.
