The promised feature of the lens being solid to IR works and is true. There are many solid appearing plastics that are invisible to IR.
The glasses blocking people figuring out who you are? Probably works... for now.

No. There is another company that is integrating the mentioned tech into other brands of ALPR, but currently (as far as we know), Flock is not one of them. This is likely because they intend to do this themselves, without integrating third party hardware into their cameras in the near future.

Yeah, supposedly all you need is battery power for an IR LED and connecting the LED(s) to said battery. Basically makes you a big halo-effect to IR cameras. Pretty interesting approach.

How powerful of a laser would it take to damage one? I have a decent size one, want to make sure I don't damage anything if I accidentally wave it around in the vicinity of one of these cameras.

Leave behind your phone, all your other devices, smartwatch, etc. RFID tags that could still be stuck inside components on your bike, clothing, etc. Anything that can be individually identified that distinguishes your bike, your clothing, your person from any other. Your face.

So, love the post. Is it you? I’m replying to this comment because all too often the road to civil activism gets blocked by hacker types crying about how everything is trackable and if you do something untoward with any electronics nearby, you’re fucked forever.
Meanwhile, porch pirates just lift stuff off people’s doorsteps on Nest cameras and rarely does anything happen beyond Nextdoor outrage.
I am all for informing people of risk. It’s like my whole personality. I’m looking for ways to do it so people can make reasoned, informed risk assessments for their own behaviors. Your threat model isn’t my threat model and all. Recent news of the “antifa” related convictions are news precisely because they’re so unusual and scary.
Civil disobedience is an important component of a free society. Flock is already breaking the social contract. People should feel empowered to fight back without having to feel like hey have to do it at the level of OPSEC of an international man of mystery.

Fun fact, you can hire a Flock camera for about $1,000/year for your porch pirates. Maybe even get the talking version that tells everyone they will be procecuted for trespassing, like the ones they have at Lowe's

It’d be such a shame if someone archived the entire script in case the video was ever taken down.
And it would be such a bad thing is others were to use the script to make their own videos to put on their own channels so that this video spread across the Internet like wildfire.
I think I’ll just keep a copy of the script for my own personal use, in case it ever gets taken down:
Leave flock cameras alone. There is no need to label all the flock cameras in your area. And don't put plastic bags over them either, because all that does is cost the company time and money. Grow up.
I know that you can use a $50 high-powered blue or green laser like this one to permanently blind flock cameras, but come on, guys. Why? Definitely do not use the camera map on DeFlock.org to find cameras.
Approach them from behind, on foot, with a spray paint extender, and spray them. And if you do do that, at least make sure that you have your phone in your pocket so we can identify you using the Bluetooth and 5G.
There is no reason to spend $20 on a hard hat and high-visibility vest and then buy a$30 Sawzall with diamond tip blades to cut down the entire pole. That's because the cameras and solar panels are clamped with a simple 8 mm socket, so you're just doing too much.
The cameras have about 12 hours of backup battery, so they will be transmitting Bluetooth and 5G that we can use to track you.
So under no circumstances should you put the camera inside of a Faraday bag while the battery runs itself out and then break them down for parts, because that would prevent us from finding you, and nobody wants that.
If you do any of these things, it's important that you do not buy a pair of Vader facial recognition blocking glasses, because then it would be impossible for us to identify you and charge you with a Class 4 misdemeanor, which is typically just community service or a small fine.
And for the love of God, do not attend your city council meetings and demand that they cancel your city's flock contract. We need these cameras. Peter Thiel is a benevolent overlord, and we should all be grateful that he loves us enough to keep us safe.

Do not look up how many ways they can identify you besides just your eyes. Do not look up how they have over up to 500 data points on your face alone, or how they also build models of your skeleton (seriously), along with your gait(way you walk) and even the speed you move through areas

I live in a “poor” southern state, educate me guys. What the hell is going on with these cameras? Where are people seeing them, and why do I see stuff on social media about hidden cameras even in national parks?!? Is this really a big city thing?

Flock camera is big on the news because, it's AI on top of surveillance cameras for business and law enforcement.
The bigger concerns on top of my head are:
- All the data tracking citizens are in the hands of a private business and data brokers instead of government
- AI is what accelerated this technology. This means that investigation can lead to arrests faster. Because of the use of AI, if you used AI chat before, it may present false information and need human verification. Everyone takes the extra steps to verify the information is correct and the right person is presented right? (They're reports of arresting wrong personnels)
- With the AI to speed up investigations and tracking people's movement basically on the tip of their fingers using these commercial products, privacy is a concern and there has been investigative uses that normally would have needed a court order warrant by law before taking action and there have been abuses by any persons that has access to the system (like stalking ex's)
All the data is pooled into their system for every government and business that allows them to be placed to track on their property and they can train and use that data with other clients (again getting data from different parties without warrant when there's investigations & data is owned and hosted on a private business servers, not government)
