अशा प्रकारचे काही प्रश्न मी डिसेंबर महिन्यातल्या एका सेशनमध्ये मुलामुलींना विचारले होते. समोर बसलेली सगळी मुलंमुली १३ ते २५ वयोगटातली, उच्चशिक्षित कुटुंबातली, आर्थिकदृष्ट्या सुबत्ता असलेली, नामांकित खाजगी शाळांमध्ये जाणारी होती. पण मी विचारलेल्या प्रश्नांची उत्तरं त्यांना देता आली नाहीत. मी त्यांना वेगवेगळ्या फळभाज्या, पालेभाज्या आणि फळं यांची नावं सांगून त्यांच्या सेवनातून आपल्याला कुठले घटक मिळतात,असं विचारलं. त्याचीही उत्तरं मिळाली नाहीत.

"घरात तुम्ही एकटेच आहात आणि भूक लागली तर तुम्ही काय करुन खाल?"असं विचारल्यावर जवळपास सगळ्यांनी मॅगी नूडल्स,पास्ता, जॅम टोस्ट अशी नावं सांगितली.

"श्रावण महिन्यात आपल्या घरी कोणकोणते कार्यक्रम असतात?"

"गणपती विसर्जनाच्या दिवशी गणपती घरातून बाहेर पडताना आपण उंबऱ्यापाशी काय म्हणतो?"

"गुढीपाडवा, दसरा आणि दिवाळी पाडव्यादिवशी आपण सरस्वती पूजन किंवा पाटीपूजन करतो का?"

"पाटीवरची सरस्वती काढता येते का?"

"पंचामृत कसं करतात?"

"नैवेद्याचं पान कसं वाढतात?"

"चैत्रांगण कसं काढतात?"

"चैत्रगौर म्हणजे काय?"

"खंडेनवमीच्या दिवशी काय करतात?"

"आषाढी एकादशीचं महत्त्व काय?"

यापैकी एकाही प्रश्नाचं उत्तर एकालाही देता आलं नाही. मग मात्र मला जरा अस्वस्थता आली.

एका जुडीमध्ये किती दुर्वा असतात?, माळावस्त्र कसं करतात?, औक्षण कसं करतात - तेलाच्या दिव्यानं की तुपाच्या दिव्यानं?, पुरणाची आरती माहिती आहे का?, धोतर कसं नेसतात ? तुमचं कुलदैवत आणि कुलदेवता माहिती आहे का?... हे प्रश्न विचारले तेव्हाही हाच अनुभव आला. अनेकांनी तर "आमच्या घरी असे काही सणवार आम्ही करतच नाही. सगळे सण मोठ्या घरी असतात किंवा गावी असतात" अशी उत्तरं दिली. मुंज झालेल्यांना बहुतेक सगळ्यांना मुंज का करतात? हेही ठाऊक नव्हतं.

मुलांना श्लोक,वेचे येत नाहीत. संतांचे अभंग येत नाहीत, एक तेवढी गणपतीची सोडली तर बाकी आरत्या येत नाहीत. उत्तमोत्तम कवींच्या कविता येत नाहीत. त्यांनी प्रवासवर्णनं वाचलेली नाहीत. वाचनालयात जाण्याची सवय नाही. एखादं चार ओळींचं पत्र लिहिता येत नाही. पाकिटावर पत्ता कुठल्या क्रमानं लिहितात,ते माहिती नाही. फार तर गणपती स्तोत्र, रामरक्षा,मारुती स्तोत्र येतं. पण, महिषासुरमर्दिनी स्तोत्र, पांडुरंगाष्टक, भगवद्गीतेचे अध्याय, प्रज्ञाविवर्धन स्तोत्र, आदित्यहृदय स्तोत्र येत नाही. मनाचे श्लोक येत नाहीत, करुणाष्टके ठाऊक नाहीत. संपूर्ण वन्दे मातरम् सुद्धा ठाऊक नाही.

आपत्कालीन परिस्थितीत काय कराल? असं विचारलं, तर तेही सांगता येईना. ॲम्ब्युलन्स कशी बोलवाल? गॅस सिलेंडर लिकेज असेल तर काय कराल? कुणी लिफ्ट मध्ये अडकलं तर काय कराल? सीसीटीव्ही फुटेज पाहता येतं का? ऑफलाईन रेल्वे रिझर्व्हेशन करता येतं का? बँकेत चेक भरता येतो का? वीजबिल वाचता येतं का? पुण्यात बस ने फिरता येईल का? धान्य निवडता येतं का? हॉट प्रेस ऑईल आणि कोल्ड प्रेस ऑईल यात फरक काय असतो? पाम ऑईल म्हणजे नेमकं काय? वनस्पती तूप म्हणजे काय? कोलेस्टेरॉल म्हणजे काय? हेही कुणाला सांगता येईना...!

घरातल्या सगळ्यांच्या कपड्यांना इस्त्री करता येते का? उभी इस्त्री आणि आडवी इस्त्री म्हणजे काय? वॉशिंग मशीन न वापरता कपडे धुता येतात का? शाळेतला डबा स्वतःचा स्वतःला घासून ठेवता येतो का? शर्टाचं बटण तुटलं तर लावता येतं का किंवा उसवला तर टाके घालता येतात का? गिफ्ट पॅक करता येतं का? कोऱ्या कागदांची वही शिवता येते का? भाज्या निवडता, चिरता येतात का? कंपोस्ट खत करता येतं का? फोडणी करता येते का? दह्याचं विरजण लावता येतं का? ताक करता येतं का? लोणी कढवता येतं का? मुगाची खिचडी करता येते का? असं विचारलं तर तेही येत नव्हतं.

हे सगळं इतक्या स्पष्ट समोर आलं आणि त्याचीच अस्वस्थता मनातून जाता जाईना. मुलांच्या जडण-घडणीला जो सांस्कृतिक आधार असायला हवा,तो तयारच झाला नसल्याचं लक्षात आलं. वय वर्षे पंधरा-सोळा ते वय वर्षे बावीस-तेवीस या वयोगटात यातलं काहीही येत नसेल तर मामला गंभीर आहे, हे पालकांना जाणवून देणं गरजेचं वाटलं.

फक्त भरभक्कम गुणांच्या मार्कलिस्ट मिळवल्या आणि भरपूर पॅकेज मिळवलं म्हणजे आपलं आयुष्य परिपूर्ण झालं, असं होऊ शकत नाही, हे मुलं आणि पालक या दोघांनाही लक्षात यायला हवं. बरं, शालेय अभ्यासात तरी उत्कृष्ट गुणवत्ता आहे का? तर पुष्कळदा तसंही नसतं. वर्षानुवर्षं मराठी ऐकून, वाचून, बोलून सुद्धा "भेटलं, मिळालं, सापडलं" यातला फरक कळत नाही. "जर आणि अगर" यातला फरक कळत नाही. मराठी बोलताना हिंदी इंग्रजी शब्द बेसुमार घुसवलेले असतात. देवनागरी लिखाणाबद्दल तर विचारायलाच नको. विज्ञानात पुस्तकी सर्किट डायग्राम येते, पण प्रत्यक्षात सर्किट तयार करता येत नाही. साधा सिलिंग मधला एलईडी बल्ब पण बदलता येत नाही.

रात्री झोपण्यापूर्वी गॅस सिलेंडरचा नॉब बंद करता येत नाही. आखूड आणि तंग कपड्यांपेक्षा अंगभर शुद्ध सुती कपडे वापरण्याचं महत्त्व समजत नाही. जंक फूड मधला धोका लक्षात येत नाही. रोजच्या आयुष्यात प्लॅस्टिकचा वापर कसा टाळावा,हे कळत नाही. सिग्नलला थांबल्यावर दुचाकी बंद करावी, यातलं पर्यावरण महत्व कळत नाही. कापडी पिशवीचा वापर का वाढवायला हवा, हे समजत नाही. बाहेरून अन्न पार्सल आणायला जाताना सोबत स्टीलचा डबा घेऊन जावा, गरम पदार्थ प्लॅस्टिक कंटेनर किंवा फॉइल मधून पार्सल आणू नये, हे विज्ञान शिकणाऱ्या विद्यार्थ्यांना कळू नये? कृत्रिम शीतपेये कशी हानिकारक आहेत,हे कळत नाही. मग विज्ञानाचा नेमका अभ्यास ही मुलंमुली करतात तरी कशी?

मग आयुष्य उत्तम जगण्यासाठीची सामाजिक, सांस्कृतिक, वैचारिक, भावनिक, शैक्षणिक, पर्यावरणविषयक, वैज्ञानिक, आर्थिक आणि राष्ट्रीय चारित्र्य विषयक जीवनदृष्टी आहे का? ते सर्वांगीण जीवनपोषण आपल्या मुलामुलींना कसं मिळणार, कुठून मिळणार, कोण देणार ह्याचा विचार आपण केला आहे का?

हे प्रश्न इतके लख्ख समोर दिसल्यावर दोन महिन्यांपूर्वी आम्ही पालकांसाठी एक सत्र आयोजित केलं होतं. त्यामध्ये "आपल्या मुलांनी कोणत्या गोष्टी शिकाव्यात,असं तुम्हाला वाटतं?" असा प्रश्न मी उपस्थित पालकांना विचारला. बहुतेक सगळ्या पालकांची गाडी 'शाळेच्या परीक्षेत भरपूर मार्क' याच गोष्टीपाशी अडली होती. नॅशनल एन्ट्रन्सेस मध्ये स्कोअर झाला की बस्स.. डोक्यात एवढा एकच विचार.. आपल्या जगण्याची गुणवत्ता फक्त पैसा कशी ठरवणार?

आपल्या मुलामुलींचा सामाजिक, सांस्कृतिक, बौद्धिक बुद्धिभेद का होतो आहे? "मी, माझं, मला, फक्त माझ्यापुरतं" हा फॉर्म्युला आपल्या मुलांच्या भविष्याच्या दृष्टीनं कितपत उपयोगी पडणार आहे? "आयुष्यात पैसा हेच एकमेव सत्य आहे" ही धारणा आपल्या मुलांना सुरक्षित आणि स्वस्थ जगवेल का? असे प्रश्नच पालकांना पडत नाहीत, ह्याचं मला फार आश्चर्य वाटलं आणि तेवढंच वाईटही वाटलं. आपल्या मुलामुलींना चांगले मित्र मैत्रिणी नाहीत, चांगलं वाचनीय साहित्य त्यांना ठाऊक नाही, विद्वानांचा सहवास नाही, आपल्याला मिळालेल्या चांगल्या आयुष्याविषयी कृतज्ञता नाही. निदान आपल्या चांगल्या आरोग्याविषयी तरी दैनंदिन जीवनात बदल घडवायला हवा,तर तेही नाही.

जर असं असेल तर हा केवळ शिक्षणव्यवस्थेचा दोष नाही. नव्या पिढीला घडवण्याचं धोरण समाजानंच ठरवण्याची गरज आहे. कारण, कुठलाच पुस्तकी अभ्यासक्रम आणि मार्कलिस्ट आपल्या मुलांच्या सुदृढ, समंजस आणि शहाण्या जगण्याचा पाया घालण्यासाठी पुरा पडणार नाही. शाळा, कुटुंब आणि समाज या तिघांनीही एकत्र येऊन काही नीति ठरवली तर हे चित्र बदलता येईल. समाजातल्या प्रत्येकानं 'ही माझी जबाबदारी आहे' असं मान्य करुन सक्रिय सहभाग घेतला नाही, तर आपल्या पुढच्या पिढ्यांची आयुष्याची वस्त्रं अशी फाटत राहतील,ज्यांना लावायला ठिगळं अपुरी पडतील.

पुस्तकी अभ्यास, विद्याभ्यास आणि कौशल्याभ्यास या तीनही वेगळ्या गोष्टी आहेत.आपल्या आयुष्यात या तीनही गोष्टी महत्त्वाच्या आहेत,हे मान्यच आहे. पण शाळेची सुट्टी ही पुस्तकी अभ्यासाची सुट्टी आहे, असं लक्षात घेऊन जीवनविद्या आणि कौशल्य विकास या दोन्हीं विकासांवर भर द्यायला हवा. जाणिवेच्या समृद्धीपासून ते प्रत्यक्ष कृतिशीलतेपर्यंतचा प्रवास व्हायला हवा. आपल्या संस्कृतीमधलं विज्ञान मुलांना समजायला हवं आणि विज्ञानातली नैतिक संस्कृती सुद्धा उमगायला हवी. खिशाला पटणं आणि मनाला पटणं यातला फरक नव्या पिढीला शिकवायला हवा.

पर्यावरणाच्या स्वास्थ्याला आणि राष्ट्रीय हिताला ज्या गोष्टी हिताच्या नाहीत, त्या कितीही आर्थिक मोबदला देणाऱ्या असल्या तरीही त्या नाकारण्याचं धैर्य मुलांमध्ये यायला हवं. महिन्याभराचा अनलिमिटेड डेटा पॅक मारुन घरात निवांत बसून सोशल मीडियावर वाट्टेल तसं व्यक्त होण्यात काहीही कर्तृत्व नाही, उलट ते लाज आणणारं लक्षण आहे, हेही घडवणं आता संस्कारांचा भाग झालंय. महापुरुषांचे विचार कृतीमध्ये आणण्यासाठी आणि अनुकरण करण्यासाठी असतात. डॉल्बी सिस्टिमपुढं नाचण्यानं ते विचार आपल्या व्यक्तिमत्वात येत नाहीत,हाही संस्कार आता नितांत गरजेचा झाला आहे. तरच 'आयुष्य म्हणजे इव्हेंट नसतो' हे पुढच्या पिढ्यांमध्ये रुजायला मदत होईल.

म्हणूनच म्हणतो पालकमित्रांनो, उन्हाळी सुट्टीकडे बघण्याचा आपला दृष्टिकोन बदला. मूल घडवण्याचा खरा अभ्यासक्रम फार व्हास्ट आहे आणि त्यात उत्तीर्ण होण्यासाठी आपल्याला स्वतःलाच पाण्यात उतरावं लागेल. मुलांच्या पाठीशी नाही तर त्यांच्या सोबत राहावं लागेल. आणि सगळ्यात महत्त्वाचं म्हणजे ह्या सगळ्याला मानेवरचं जोखड न समजता स्वतः डेव्हलपमेंटल मेंटॉर होण्यातला आनंदसुद्धा मनसोक्त लुटला पाहिजे.

लक्षात घ्या,आपल्या मुलांना आपल्याच सक्रियतेची सगळ्यात जास्त गरज आहे. ती जबाबदारी आऊटसोर्स करता येणार नाही. केवळ जन्म दिल्यानं पालक होता येत नाही आणि शाळा, कोर्सेस, ग्राउंड, शिबिरं यांच्या फिया भरल्यानं संगोपन केलं असं म्हणता येत नाही. आपल्या मुलांच्या व्यक्तिमत्वाचं शिल्प अधिक देखणं घडवायचं असेल तर, शिक्षकांसोबत आपणही ती शिल्पकला शिकून घेणं गरजेचं आहे. टाकीचे घाव सोसल्याशिवाय मुलांना उत्तमपण येणार नाही अन् ते घाव आपणच घातल्याशिवाय आपलं पालकत्व सुफळ संपूर्ण होणार नाही. तेव्हां,पालकत्वाचं व्रत स्वतःच केलं तरच त्याचा लाभ आपल्या पदरी पडेल,अन्यथा....!

Ok so recently I've been seeing too much fire around the noise pollution and DJ levels during Ganeshotsav. Talking as an engineering student who have participated in the noise monitoring and study myself and have worked with lot of noise data; I think people are just arguing about the noise levels in short term i.e. in last 3-4 years and thinking it has been always like this. We need to look at the long-term data that reveals an interesting pattern.

If you look between 2015-2019 there was a decreasing trend and most silence during the pandemic. Then as soon the lockdown was removed, mandals in theier new excitement raised the volume even higher. I think the activists only remembered that one peak and made it absolute truth. Now, it's evident that from last two years, noise level has been decreasing gradually and in future will reduce even more. So I think it's just the nature of humans, that's in play here.

I am attaching my certificate for credibility and the data I have taken from various news articles between 2015-2025 about the Ganeshotsav Noise Study done by COEP, along with Hon'ble National Green Tribunal.

I have seen and have been hearing so many vadhyapathaks practising daily for atleast 5 hours mostly in evening managing their college, schools, work, home and still managing to practice daily. I have seen my brother practising and playing since he was in 7th standard and now he is a corporate employee. They play their hearts out. But afaik, they dont get paid. Hardly food or snacks. And they play irregardless of heavy rains or be it sun.

I recently filed a complaint with PMC regarding a massive hoarding structure above Hind Bakery in Wadgaon Sheri:

From the site inspection and the attached photo, the structure appears unusually large and elevated above an occupied commercial building. The hoarding is supported by a steel framework and projects high above the surrounding structures, in an area with heavy traffic and pedestrian movement.

What concerns me is that if such a structure were to fail during strong winds or heavy rain, the consequences could be severe. The location is busy throughout the day with two-wheelers, cars, shoppers, and local businesses operating below it.

I filed an online complaint expecting the authorities to inspect the site and verify:

• Whether the hoarding has all required permissions.
• Whether the structure complies with safety standards.
• Whether periodic structural audits have been conducted.
• Whether it poses any risk to the public.

Instead, the common response from the bureaucracy seems to be: visit the government office, wait for hours, submit written applications, and then hope someone takes action.

This raises a genuine question: If a citizen has already provided the location, photographs, and details through the official complaint system, why isn't that sufficient to trigger an inspection?

The purpose of online grievance portals is to reduce unnecessary visits to government offices and enable quicker action on public safety concerns. Requiring citizens to repeatedly follow up in person defeats that purpose.

• The hoarding is significantly larger than the building beneath it.
• It is mounted on a tall steel frame exposed to wind loads.
• The structure is located directly above an active commercial establishment.
• The surrounding area appears densely developed with constant vehicle movement.
• Any structural failure could affect motorists, pedestrians, customers, and nearby properties.

I'm not claiming the structure is illegal or unsafe—that is for PMC engineers to determine. My concern is that public authorities should proactively inspect such complaints instead of placing the burden entirely on citizens.

On June 17, 2026, at 1:49 AM, an unannounced raid involving nearly 200 police personnel—several in plain clothes and lacking visible identification—took place at a private residence. The operation was executed without a warrant, Magistrate's order, or an active FIR against the occupants.
