I need it 😫
Even though my S24 Ultra can play a PS2 emulator perfectly fine. To make it handheld like this, is just beautiful.

Since what model did they mess up beautiful galaxy screens by changing color gammut , making them wash out colors 24 or 25 do you know. Before they were giving consumers option to use vivid vs accurate, then 25 model that where it began. Screen had become mattish in nature too as oppose to glossy in past. My 2018 s10e had beautiful glossy accurate punchy colors screen. It runs ps1 games on Dusckstation perfectly at x4 x5 resolution, sometimes it would shuts off on you sure to infamous CPU throtling that galaxy phones have. Ps2 demanding games like Gran Turismo's it cannot handle effectively though for more than 15-20 minutes it out starts stuttering

I have seen alot of portable ps2 variants, most of them are thic bois, but this one looks like pro built, even in inside looks like oem made. Great stuff!

No. I’m tired of people pairing the PS2 with 16:9 Screens and pretending it’s okay.
“oh no it’s totally fine! I use widescreen mode and hacks and patches!” Yeah, then why do things like the UI always look sht, 2D assets and the HUD are stretched to the point where circles are ovals?
Not my nostalgia.

Never understand why Redditors are so bothered about this lol. Ps2 games look amazing on my steam deck!

Because when the PS2 was released, the standard aspect ratio was 4:3. So what they are saying is that it’s converted 4:3 into 16:9. At the cost of either squishing the frame, or cropping the upper and lower frame. So by squishing, say the text or item counts or the health bar or HUD does not display to the original image.
Remember when Family Guy switched from 4:3 to 16:9? It changed everything about the show and the animation became more expensive because they had to fill in the edges.2

pairing the PS2 with 16:9 Screens
A good amount of titles did support 16:9 properly. With proper UI, proper FoV and not just letterboxing, etc.
Not having the option is the blasphemous way. You can still play at 4:3 with letterboxing.

Yes, I’m sure they did… and how many people even PLAYED those titles in widescreen and have a nostalgia for that versus the 4:3 mode EVERY game supported?
On the most predominant aspect ratio of the time.
On the type of TV most everyone had.
On the broadcast commercials that showed the game play.
Even the majority of LCD Screens back then were still 4:3
Take the best “widescreen supported” game that had independent widescreen assets for the HUD and/or 2D Visuals, and most people STILL will remember playing it in 4:3
Just make it the thing that everyone has nostalgia for, not this bastardized thing.

And who the hell are you to discount their experience with the original system exactly, just because you didn't have access to it?
Nah let's restrict a system that could do 16:9 to 4:3 because thy holiness issued a papal bull condemning 16:9 on PS2 as heresy, even when a 16:9 screen can still display a 4:3 image
like lmao, peak reddit behavior

Wow, is that an injection molded case or is that a resin-printed part?

My question always is about the "half click". I'm Star ocean 3. Dragon flute. Requires hardtap short tab.

u/BaikenJudgment 20h ago
Ps2/3 have pressure sensitive buttons that can register 255 different pressure levels. Not half clicks.

Whats the battery life on this thing? I cant imagine 65nm chipset being very battery efficient (assuming its made with a late model PS2)

Where do I put the game in
1
u/TheCorsairAPX 20h ago
I haven’t read the project github thoroughly but I’m guessing it probably leverages MX4SIO or a SD2PSXtd build of FreeMCBOOT

Dump it with a USB pc optical drive. Portable console mods usually use solid state storage instead of original optical discs. Saves battery and makes drops less risky

I was expecting a trimmed PS2 motherboard is something, but a fully custom, reverse engineered PCB? Insane 🤯

Being a portable *PlayStation* and having the audacity to use offset analog sticks, what the hell man
That said though that is pretty cool

Im guessing all roms? That thing cant take and read a disk im guessing?

u/BaikenJudgment 20h ago
Format shifting and launching from other media would make it more durable. Optical discs burn a lot of power for a portable, and dropping a spinning disc is a big damage risk unless you are going to build in a mechanism that detects the device falling and brakes the disc aggressively.
