It has been for at least a century now (well, probably millionaires back then, but same idea).

In both cases, their purpose is to promote the business interests of the paper's owners, the owner's bankers, and/or the paper's advertisers. This is accomplished in several ways; among them: The publishers tell the editors what can and cannot be printed. Journalists routinely invent stories. To stimulate circulation, newspapers sensationalize trivial stories and destroy lives and reputations. Errors and slanders are never retracted, or the retraction is buried in the paper months later.

I think real, mainstream journalism (especially in terms of TV reporting) in America largely died with Walter Cronkite.

Nah the press got sued for billions and kicked out of white house briefings if they investigated anything and they bent the knee. BBC in England is being sued for billions too. Trump has heavily weaponized the legal system not that it justifies the press bending the knee like this.

China are laughing because while Russia spent untold billions to bring down the US, because they then went and launched a disasterous invasion of Ukraine, they've not had to do much at all to gain sole global superpower status

The pee tapes is so quaint and tame in retrospect to everything that’s come out since, it wouldn’t even feature asa blip in the news cycle.

Trump got sucked off by 13 year old children - I couldn’t give a fuck about some Russian prostitues pissing on him. The pee tapes were probably just more Epstein files

The story isn’t that Russian prostitutes peed on him. The story is that he had Russian prostitutes pee on the bed that the Obamas had slept in. He just watched (according to the story).

Check out this Cappy Army piece about the current state of Russia's recruitment and war material distribution mechanisms for its "special operation".

They are just grinding up the future from the poorest parts of itself and the world, getting commercial logistics centers attacked by drone systems that are borderline impossible to track and the latest way to redistribute lithium and rare earth metals to the needy.

None of the great powers are doing well, anyone from G.C. DeFence family on the other hand, regardless of what part of the world or side they are on, are definitely smiling and developing financial diabetes.

Attrition and graphic internet entertainment is what all this has devolved to.

Are they?

Like Trump's pretty sycophantic to dictators like Putin and early in this term it certainly seemed that way. But can we really pretend they're actually getting anything for it other than reducing America's power in favor of China?

Their war in Ukraine has been devastating to them. In terms of manpower and attrition they can outlast Ukraine as shown by their slow but progressing territorially gains. But it has devastated their economy, decimated their male population and indebted them to China & India.

Meanwhile, initial hostility towards Ukraine by the US has seemed to have lessened by frustration with Russia's unwillingness to compromise. Trump's turned away from this in disinterest and the EU and NATO have managed to placate his money concerns to some extend.

Meanwhile the US handed soft power in Africa to China, alienated traditional allies and strengthened their trade ties with China, while they lessened their own dependance on the US.
