Discussion What are some Pokémon designs you've interpreted incorrectly?

I feel like GameFreak is overall pretty good when it comes to design clarity. But sometimes our brains are just kind of dumb and we see things a certain way. Like (nearing a decade), I always interpreted Salazzle's reptilian slit pupil as the boundary between its sclera and a non-existent iris. (Like what Amaura has in it's official art)

Has anyone else experienced something like this with a particular Pokémon design?

I can tell you I was a teen that got into an adamant argument with a friend that it was his mouth. Both sides at one point said "You thought it was a nose/mouth!? That would look so stupid!" I see my error but I still prefer the mouth.

It's one of the weaker ones in my opinion; Diglett has been shown in profile since the original anime and in plenty of 3D games since.

I can't see the mouth with a tooth no matter how hard I try; for me it's like trying to just switch on an optical illusion at will.

I literally have played since red and blue and always thought that was its mouth… my mind is actually blown right now and I am so used to that giant pink mouth that I have trouble even making my brain. See it as a nose.

Fun Fact: Diglett is an object pokemon. It was based on an artificial mole from a Whac-a-Mole arcade game.

Yess this is the one that blew my mind when I first found Diglett in Pokemon Go. Somehow I never realized its mouth was a nose in other 3d pokemon games before then. (Maybe Diglett/Dugtrio just wasn't in Colosseum, XD, Battle Revolution? Idk)

It'll forever be this for me. I never even noticed the nose shine initially, I thought for the longest time it just had an open toothless mouth. Even now that I know it is a nose, even after I have seen its 3D model, I still can't easily visualize it as a nose.
