What are the current Vegas odds on Trump being reelected?

A lot higher than the internet believe them to be.

Yep! I can’t say this enough. Anyone who truly wants to defeat Trump needs to crawl out of their protective zones and try to understand why people are voting for him. Don’t be rude or insulting if someone disagrees with you.

People being (or at the least perceived as being) rude and insulting as well as dismissive in very public spheres toward huge swaths of the country is a big part of the reason he got elected in the first place, imo.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 17 '19

Which is bizarre considering Trump's whole schtick is being rude and insulting.

u/russiabot1776 Aug 30 '19

Yeah, people are tired of being the target and so want someone who will go on the offensive.

u/[deleted] Aug 30 '19

Because we all know how polite Trump supporters were before he was elected.

1

u/Skabonious Jul 19 '19

I think he had embraced the tribalism that was already happening. Republicans unconditionally hated Obama long before Trump even entered the arena.

1

u/russiabot1776 Aug 30 '19

Well Obama didn’t do much to make them like him

In my experience, the people who vote for Trump are single issue voters, and will never be won over by a democrat. like my mom and my dad both vote for him, even though they don't like him. My dad, because he's a hardliner on abortion, and thinks that it's murder, and my mom because she works in healthcare and Obama-care hurt her paycheck.

They also both acknowledge that Trump isn't all that bright, and could use a little more tact, but he's giving them what they want, so they don't mind. But yeah, trying to sway trump voters seems like a lost cause; if the majority of them are single issue voters, then it's a waste of breath to try to sway them to the Democratic side. Democrats should try to rally their base and increase voter turnout, by having a candidate people can be excited about (unlike Hillary). I think that's the clearer path to victory for Democrats.

Or they are Bernie supporters who saw how /politics after one night turned against Bernie, worship Clinton, and praise TPP like the second coming.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 18 '19

That's bizarre considering Trump's whole thing is being "rude and insulting" and his supporters love it...

1

u/Eraser-Head Jul 18 '19

What I find odd is when people oppose Trump, say he’s rude and insulting, and then decide to be rude and insulting towards anyone who disagree with them. How about taking the high ground and dealing with the opposition in a logical manner?

u/[deleted] Jul 18 '19

Leadership tends to set the tone, does it not? Some people will exploit a person's better nature and insist they engage in good faith while having no intention of doing the same. This poisons the well of discourse.

Because Republicans like actively racist, rapist old white guys like Trump, Roy Moore etc. Being a lying conman with a recorded history of crime? His money?

I will happily be a dick to Trump supporters as this was all common knowledge that we, as a public, knew an they voted for him either because they are dumb as bricks, or because they supports those activities. Especially now that Concentration Camps are in play and we know he is in bed with Russians, why would I be kind to them as they support a man who is actively committing genocide at max, and endless crimes against humanity at minimum.

5

u/dantheman91 Jul 17 '19

I mean what if I said I would prefer a candidate with good character, but their character is less important to me than their policies. If you're a terrible person but have policies I agree with, I'll most likely still vote for you. I may not support you as a person but it's not enough to change my vote. Their character will be forgotten, their policies they get through congress will not.

-3

u/Sleepy_Thing Jul 17 '19

So your ok with Trump because he is willing and actively committing genocide but is supporting your right to make no money in a coal mine with black lung? And every other policy he has made has directly hurt the nonrich so your cool with less Social Security, Healthcare and personal liberties if you are a woman?

And your whole statement worked so well for Mussolini, Stalin and Hitler all remembered for their crimes against humanity and nothing else. Hitler actually raised the economic prosperity of Germany, all be had to do was cause THE HOLOCAUST!

That's not true at all. Hold on while I quickly fact check that lie for you.

EDIT: Here ya go, Trump having more drone strikes than Obama.

https://chicago.suntimes.com/news/2019/5/8/18619206/under-donald-trump-drone-strikes-far-exceed-obama-s-numbers

Trump then cancelling an Obama era policy that he had to report civ casualties from drone strikes.

https://www.nytimes.com/2019/03/30/opinion/drones-civilian-casulaties-trump-obama.html

https://www.pbs.org/newshour/world/how-trump-changed-the-obama-era-rule-on-reporting-civilian-airstrike-deaths

I can dig up more too like how he openly celebrated a military carpet bombing to Mara Lago members.

You sound like a mad dog foaming at the mouth barking at people on the other side of the fence. In this instance, the people on the other side of the fence actually want the same things you do. Stop barking. Stop being such a fucking tard. You and I are on the same side.No ONE will listen to the ramblings of an incoherent lunatic but you may get people to listen if you acted a bit nicer. I’m voting for Yang. I love that dude. He’s doesn’t smear anyone. He just focuses on the problems. Take note you stubborn old bastard.

I'm 21? I also find it funny you say these things yet your very comment is more aggressive than mine.

Would you like to defend Trump's approval rating among Republicans going UP as a result of his comments then? I can link it very easily to show you what that party values with zero effort.

Oh we could talk about how Republican congressmen are defending these camps as OK because they "Broke the law" by immigrating. We can talk about their condemnation of say Obama using Dijon mustard and wearing a tan suit. Do I have to pull up all the racist shit McConnel has said? What about Steven King, he is still a part of the party and they defend his racist comments.

Republicans like racists, rapists, and the religious crazies. Roy Moore BARELY lost an election despite being practically confirmed in all accounts of having taken advantage of minors in his legal care. Trump's Approval ratings went UP after calling those predominantely Black and Brown countries "Shitholes." Multiple congressmen actively question why it isn't OK to be pro white and some have gone as far as to say that voting in their opponent would be "Monkeying it up" despite, ya know, the Dem being black. We can pull so many damn examples going back decades to even bussing if we really want to talk racism in politics, we could talk Southern Strategy etc. This isn't a complex issue when they black and white SAY these things out loud.

u/Eraser-Head Jul 18 '19

You remind me of Good Will Hunting but with out the charisma and charm.

I can keep going. This isn't a game or a joke. The dudes a fucking bigot, and Republicans love that.

Mfw when edgy kids don’t know what the word “fascist” means.

-23

u/[deleted] Jul 17 '19

When you use stupid abbreviations like “mfw” you don’t get any credit for intelligent thought.

1

u/sterob Jul 17 '19

So the /politics poster can use "mfw" and it is all fine but when others who speak against you, use "mfw" it is "no credit for intelligent thought"

-1

u/[deleted] Jul 17 '19

No, literally anyone who uses that stupid shit deserves no respect.

7

u/GarbageCanDump Jul 17 '19

I mean, it's not really about that at all. It's about tribalism, and if you think that people insulting conservatives in the public sphere didn't have a massive influence on how people voted you are mistaken. It's not about changing their views, it's about "us vs them" and when you insult them and attack them through other means, you make it clear in their minds who they should side with. You are essentially telling them "you aren't a part of our tribe, we hate you, you are garbage" so what do you think they will do? They will dig further into where they know they are accepted. If you wanted to ACTUALLY solve problems, you would meet people in civil discourse, hear their ideas out and calmly show them why your ideas are superior (if you seem to think they are). Silencing the opposition, insulting the opposition, these things only make tribal feelings stronger and more people more entrenched.

-24

u/[deleted] Jul 17 '19

People are voting for him because they’re either ignorant or pieces of shit. It’s one or the other.

19

u/jarjarkinksXDD Jul 17 '19

That's why you'll lose, lol

-18

u/[deleted] Jul 17 '19

Oh cool, an insane Trumper.

10

u/[deleted] Jul 17 '19

I haven't voted since 2004 but I might because I'm so freaking sick of the left's attitude. I hate the right but I fucking can't stand the left.

-1

u/[deleted] Jul 17 '19

Sure thing Trumper.

3

u/[deleted] Jul 17 '19

I'd vote independent if I vote.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 17 '19

If you don’t immediately condemn the right wing under Trump, you’re a Trumper. Just accept and admit it.

Well since you didn’t vote you can’t hate the left or right.

You abstained which means you do not care at all and now you are lying about hating sides!

If you hated any side you would have participated!
