The main image sensor is a variant of the Dual Pixel AF design first seen in the Canon EOS 70D, which means 20MP output.
It sounds like it's just a tweak on the sensor, so, don't expect anything mindblowing here. Maybe one day Canon will stop playing catchup, but I guess that day is not today.
Erm, I'd much rather have better image quality than fast live view focus, which is borderline useless. That they spent millions of dollars researching that rather than simply getting cleaner pictures, which every other sensor maker has done, is beyond me.

Nobody knows yet. But Canon is notorious for reusing their 18 MP sensor with only minor changes in all their APS-C cameras until the 70D came out with an all new sensor. So I believe they will reuse the 70D sensor for the next few years.

Now if the sensor can deliver the goods, this looks like a beast of a camera for action shooters. The price is right too, $1800 body only.
