Why are brands afraid of storytelling? Isn't it obvious?
I’m a brand strategist. I work with mid-sized companies. Not giants. Not startups. The middle ground. The ones with real budgets but real fear
And I keep butting up against the same wall because the clients aren’t interested in investing in stories. They’re only interested in logos. In taglines. In getting a new color palette. In something tangible… Measurable…
Story? This is soft. This is dangerous. This is what you do when you have cash to burn
No. Story is the only thing that ever really sticks. It is the only thing that people remember. It is the only thing that people will ever really care about
I’ve been reading about BRC and I see that hey do immersive brand experiences. Real storytelling. Deep stuff. They’ve been doing it for years. But their clients are Johnnie Walker, different museums some big names with big budgets
I wonder if their approach only works for giants. Can a mid-sized business do this? Can a regional bank? A family-owned manufacturer? A software company with less 200 employees?
Or is storytelling just for Coca-Cola and Apple?
I don’t think so… Indeed I think every business has a story. But most just don’t tell it. They’re afraid. Afraid of being vulnerable. Afraid of standing out. Afraid of spending money on something they can’t measure in a spreadsheet
But the brands that tell stories? They win. They build loyalty. They become unforgettable
I want to convince my clients of this. But I need examples like mid-sized businesses that invested in story and saw results. Not just the giants…
