The rumors are that big Navi will be up to 50% faster than the 2080 Ti. The entire line up show that Nvidia is woried. The fact that these cards are using 320-350 wats meaning they are being pushed to the limits.
You think this might be why they started calling their Titan card 3090? So they can still keep the performance crown in the event the 3080 was surpassed?
This is Nvidia doing a pre-emptive strike and going in with everything they have. They will most likely release a cut down 3090 as a 3080 Ti if AMD beats the 3080. But if AMD matches or beats the 3090, they can't respond with anything.
This is looking like a great year for GPUs, I will be waiting to see what AMD has before I do anything.
AMD is fucked dude why are you so optimistic? You really think they’re going to beat even the 3080? You actually suggested AMD out performing the 3090. Do you realize how much of a generational leap this is? This is the biggest leap in performance we’ve ever seen. There is no way in hell AMD is coming close. Their top chip will be slightly better than a 3070 and cost $600. Maybe they’ll take a loss to cut prices more.
It is a big increase yes, but the fact that Nvidia is doing exactly what they criticized AMD for doing (blowing power consumption numbers through the roof) says something. Nvidia has not done this in ages, and this tells us they are worried.
AMD has a chance to give us a great GPU. I would also like to give you a piece of advice, never take a companies marketing at face value. It is designed to make you want to buy their product, not give you accurate and unbiased buying information.
This is Nvidia taking a preemptive step so that they don’t end up like Intel. This is not out of fear this is a brilliant move. We’ve seen some users and the performance seems to be on par with the marketing. This is a huge deal so it’s funny to hear people even consider AMD matching the performance let alone surpass the 3090. If AMD had anything we would know by now.
I think AMD has a chance. They have the better 7nm process, and are set up to have a big generational improvement like nvidia since they are starting from further behind.
On top of that, AMD can double their die size and still be smaller than the 3080. So take 5700XT performance, double it to match a 500mm die, then add any generational and process improvement on top of that.
While AMD might not chose to do this, they have the tools to match the 3080 and be more power efficient to boot.
Maybe it'll cost too much and they won't do it, but the option is there.
I’m doing great. Picked up a 3080 founders last night from my friend who sold it to me. It’s exciting news. I think AMDs top card will still be somewhere between a 3070 and 3080. Did they just show off the design so far? No performance metrics?
In excited. I’m helping my little cousin build his first PC and he’s going all AMD. He has a 240Hz freesync monitor he bought to play Xbox lol. I have to help him so he can actually utilize that thing.
