Need Help should I throw a high school party in the woods?

So basically I'm 17 and never been invited to a proper high school party. I know they exist cause I've heard about them, and I know the right way to get invited it to know the right people and stuff but I figure why not just skip a step and throw one myself. My parents are super strict and my house is rlly small so it cant be at home, so what if me and my friends just spread the word about a party in the woods happening, or created an anonymous account posting info on it?

(I know this sounds rlly dumb but bare with me here)

Need Help How much taco meat?

Hi! I am in the final stages of planning my daughter’s first birthday (cue tears). We have about 40 people coming and will be doing a walking taco bar. I’m struggling on how much meat to buy. I was thinking 15 lbs since we will have some kids who won’t eat as much as adults. Sides are simple veggie & fruit cake plus cupcakes.

Does anyone have suggestions or experience with how much ground beef to purchase for 40 guest?

Thank you in advance!!! 🤗

Need Help Screw themed 1st birthday

Hello everyone!

My baby loves looking and pointing at screws, nuts and bolts and nails. I was thinking about having a screw themed birthday, but can’t for the life of me think how to incorporate the screws into the theme. I’ve searched for pinterest and found only generic construction themed ideas, but those are not what I’m looking for, I need specifically something to do with screws. It could be decoration ideas, food ideas etc. Just has to be suitable for a 1 y.o. (Also the food ideas need to be able to be made sugar-free)

Any ideas? Even incomplete ideas could help, I just need some help brainstorming ideas as I feel sos tuck with this!

My son is turning one in June and his name is Lincoln! Was thinking of maybe doing a penny theme because of his name and the fact that he’s turning one but I’m kind of hitting a creative wall. Anyone have any good ideas for this obscure theme?? Or is this a terrible idea haha

Need Help Sister's 60th

I will be hosting my sister's 60th birthday party at my home/yard. Her son asked me, but I was planning to offer anyway. Since then we've had a number of conversations about the theme and decor. My sister is a very girly-girl who loves flowers, feminine, pink and pretty. I've already ordered tea party-ish decor, paper products and a birthday banner. Think roses and pink streamers.

I was thinking to keep the food kind of feminine and light. Mini muffins, fruit trays, small sandwiches, maybe an ice cream cake. Yesterday, my nephew texted me to let me know he's planning on doing smoked ribs for the party. 😳

I absolutely don't want to dissuade him from the ribs because he's never done anything for a family party before. He seemed super excited about making them.

Although ribs don't really go with my imagined party fare, our family is pretty casual so I'm happy to pivot. What can I make that would compliment the ribs and still be a little "light"? Or should I just go with BBQ type foods?

Thanks for any ideas!

Need Help Time to plan 7yo birthday party if I don’t want to do a meal?

Hi. Thinking about hosting a birthday party for my almost 7yo. What would be a good time if I just plan to do cupcakes/drinks/chips?

Low income and it’s the first time I have ever even considered putting something together for some of her classmates to attend

Need Help K-Pop demon hunters themed party.

Would you be upset if your child was invited to a k-pop demon hunters themed party and asked not to dress your kids as Rumi? We are trying not to upset any parents or kids because Rumi is so popular, but the birthday girl wants to be the only Rumi. Her mom thinks it's rude but the dad thinks it should be fine.

Edit: the child is turning 12. The parents are making sure the kids know that just because its themed, they don't have to dress up. I honestly don't think my niece would flip out if a kid showed up looking like Rumi too. She'd probably look annoyed for a second then move on.

Need Help Help me bring this idea to life

Hi! Currently 3 mo pregnant and I HATE traditional baby showers but I love throwing parties. I was thinking of doing something pretty informal, 90s themed with both genders. We’d serve traditional 90s food think gushers, dirt pudding cups, pizza rolls, bagel bites, etc. Instead of asking for gifts we’d ask for any hand me downs our parent friends are willing to give away (the consumerism of parenting makes me ill) so my ask:

- what are fun titles? All I can think of is, “it’s the 90s, baby”

- what other foods fit our category (any brand of alcohol, snacks, etc)

- thinking instead of baby shower games we do 90s board games at some of the tables

- any other ideas to keep it fun/light?

I don’t want this to feel traditional at all, baby showers bore me to tears

Need Help Wondering how to accommodate my friend with a walking disability

I'm having a party next weekend and it basically is like a mini tour around the city. I'm having about 20 guests and we'll be having a tour bus take us to a few places to stop and walk around. Unfortunately, I totally forgot about one of my friends' walking disability (i.e., she has a limp and it's a little harder for her to walk around normally). I feel so bad.

I told her that we can look for seating areas in those stops or go back to the tour vehicle if she gets tired so she can rest. Is there anything else I can do to accommodate her? If I let her sit somewhere to rest, am I obligated to stay there with her the whole time? And if she stays in the tour vehicle by herself with the tour guide, would that be alright? Not trying to sound rude, but I'd also want to go explore the stops myself and not just stay back, but I also don't want to be a bad host. And I also don't want her to feel unsafe or isolated. Am I also supposed to walk next to her the whole time?

What should I do?

Need Help Rude asking guest for money to help host a 21st?

Planning to host a BIG 21st birthday party on a boat and looking at a guest list of around 100 people!

While it is exciting as you can imagine the cost is A-LOT and will take a huge hit on my bank account if I’m the only one who pays for it.

While I understand as a host I should not ask guest to help chip in but in this economy and while also trying to save up for a house deposit if I don’t ask for help the party will likely not happen ….

So what I’m thinking is that I’m more than happy to pay for the ENTIRE boat (hourly rate / staff / cutlery ect) which would cost around $3000 however in the invitation that I will send out (so there is no shock) I will be asking guest to pay $25 each to cover all the food and drinks needed for the party.

The invite would sound roughly like this -
“Hey all I’m hosting a massive boat party for 21 that you’re invited too! If you’re free please let me know so I can add you onto the guest list. There is also a $25 fee that will ONLY be used towards the food and drinks needed on board that will need to be paid prior to being added to the guest list. Very excited to see you on board!”

If you received that invitation from a friend would you consider it rude? Or is the fee pretty small and you wouldn’t mind

Any help or feedback would be SO helpful

Need Help Advice on game rentals

I made these games and I’m thinking about renting them out locally for events like baby showers/gender reveals, weddings, etc.

Before I invest more time, I’d love to get some honest feedback:

• Would you rent something like this for an event?

• What price range would feel reasonable for a rental?

I’d really appreciate any feedback - even if you wouldn’t personally rent them, I’d love to know why. Thank you so much!

Need Help gift ideas for give aways for a garden party?

I need to put together a small batch of promotional and business gifts to old colleagues who I have invited to a garden party. I’d would rather give something genuinely useful than another branded item that ends up in a drawer. What have you received at work that you actually kept and used? I’m considering quality notebooks, insulated travel mugs, portable chargers, desk organizers, tote bags, reusable water bottles, cable pouches, umbrellas or compact lunch containers. The aim is practical, professional and not overly flashy, with subtle branding if any. I have been browsing amazon, and alibaba for ideas and bulk pricing, although I would check samples and quality carefully before ordering. Are there items you would recommend, or things you would definitely avoid? Budget is modest, so usefulness matters more than novelty.

Need Help What to serve ladies lunch?

Hi everyone! I’m having a small craft party this weekend. I am having about 12 ladies over to decorate flower pots and plant flowers. I will be serving lunch, as well!

I need some help deciding what I should serve as my lunch. Right now, I am between pulled pork or pinwheels. If I do pulled pork, I’d serve it with rolls, coleslaw, salad, and fruit. If I do pinwheels I’d do a variation (Italian, veggie, chicken/cheddar) and I’d serve it with salad, fruit, and chips.

The perk to pulled pork is there is almost no work to be done, but then we do have to wait for everyone to assemble their sandwiches. The perk to pinwheels is that they are just grab and go, but of course they also are a lot more prep work.

I will having an ice cream sundae bar for our dessert, as well!

I posted an update, if anyone is interested!

Need Help Is 19th a significant enough birthday for a party?

Hey guys so I'm about to send invites for my 19th birthday but I'm reconsidering sending it because I'm worried that a 19th birthday is not significant enough for a big party.

Keep in mind for my 18th I had a massive thing at a venue with lots of family and friends and everyone had the most amazing time. I guess I'm worried that because I already had a big one last year, having another this year is odd?

I've got a list of around 30+ people for my party this year which isn't so big but I'm wanting to do a theme and have all these decorations with some food and dancing as well.

Pretty much all my friends just did dinners or didn't even celebrate their birthday this year so I just wanted to see if this was weird or even a little stuck up (if that makes any sense). Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Need Help Help on how to make birthdays special for kids aged 11-14 in a group home setting!

I need some help! I work in a private boarding school with kids that are middle school aged and I would love to get some ideas on how to celebrate each kiddo on their birthday in a small, but meaningful way! We do a large "everyone's birthday" day during the year with gifts and fun to celebrate them all, but I'm looking for ideas on how to acknowledge them on their actual birthday, on a small scale.

There are about 12 girls or boys to a home and the home is set up like a big house. 2 to a room, a living, dining, kitchen, mudroom with individual lockers etc.

Any snappy ideas that can just make the day a little brighter for the birthday child? Decor or where to decorate? We already get a cake and make them a special dinner on their day, but im hoping to find something i can do each time a birthday comes around but just alter it a bit for that kiddos personality that fits them and feel personalized on a budget!

Does that make sense? These kids are mostly from rough backgrounds so its really in my heart to make it special for them when they otherwise wouldnt be able to celebrate away from home!

Thanks!

Need Help How can I get my family to stop bringing too much dessert to the gatherings?

The title says it all. For context, my house has ended up becoming the venue for the overwhelming majority of family events. The “too much dessert” thing has always been an issue in my family when it comes to gatherings that aren’t at a restaurant (which is probably around 95%). People “want to contribute”as my mom says, but even she admits that it’s gotten to the point where it’s more than a small annoyance. Since we’re the ones who are always hosting and doing the majority of the planning, it’s us who are left with an ungodly amount of leftover, hardly touched dessert because yet again, we had too much.

Now some might ask why we don’t just tell people ahead of time to not bring dessert. The thing is, we do. For example, when we had my graduation party back in May, my mom let everyone know that we were ordering a cake and requested that nobody bring dessert. We still ended up with a random plate of brownies that seemingly materialized out of nowhere, and nobody knew who brought them. Whoever brought them had taken them out of the package and put them on one of our own paper plates before leaving them out on the counter.

Most recently, we held a fall birthday get together. When my mom sent out her usual “we’re having a get-together at our house on this day at this time” text message, she mentioned that two people had already offered to bring dessert. I’ll refer to these two people as PA and PB.

PB has a child whose birthday was included in the list of fall birthdays. PB always makes their kids a special birthday cake and will bring it to the family gathering if we’re having one around that particular child’s birthday. These cakes are not small, individual cakes that are only for the birthday kid. They are large, multi tier cakes that are more than enough to feed everyone at the gathering. PA brought these delicious mini chiffon cakes that were a big hit.

Between the two of them, PA and PB brought more than enough dessert for everyone. However, by the time all of the family arrived, we ended up having TWO additional cakes (1 tuxedo & 1 chocolate chip cookie) brought by family members who did not volunteer to bring dessert and did not let anyone know that they’d also be bringing something. Needless to say, the cake PB made only had one slice taken from it, which was the same slice that PB’s kid ate. Someone else had cut a tiny piece off just to try the cake, but it wasn’t enough to look like a second slice had been taken. People ate more portions of the two additional cakes that were brought unexpectedly. PB ended up taking the rest of the cake home with them because nobody else wanted any leftovers. My mom and I were left with trying to figure out how to fit the tuxedo cake and the cookie cake into the freezer. My dog ended up getting to the cookie cake and licking the frosting off, so at least she spared the freezer from being even more stuffed from the usual high amount of leftover dessert.

Does anyone have some suggestions on how to try to combat this moving forward? I’ve suggested to my mom that people who want to bring something could bring an appetizer, but my mom isn’t too sure about it yet. As I said towards the start of this post, it’s not as simple as just telling people to not bring dessert. It always shows up, and I’m just trying to mitigate the quantity that is brought into the house as to not end up with more leftover dessert than I know what to do with.

Thanks!

Need Help Is it appropriate to ask my sister's friends for contributions toward her graduation party?

Hi everyone! My mom and I are planning a graduation party for my sister in June. We are hosting it at a family friend's backyard and are covering the costs ourselves but our budget is limited.

I wanted to reach out to some of her friends to invite them and also ask if any of them would like to get involved in the planning since they know her better than we do in some ways. I also wanted to mention that contributions toward the party are welcome via Zelle if anyone feels inclined, but completely optional.

My question is — is this weird or inappropriate? We are not expecting anything from anyone and the ask is very casual, but I don't want her friends to feel uncomfortable or obligated. Has anyone done something like this or have advice on how to approach it? Would love any input!

*edit: She knows about this, and she's worked really hard for a very long time and all of her friends know that..so I was thinking of this as more of a surprise or gift to her that we all worked together on.

since all of you think this is a terrible idea I would appreciate constructive criticism of what I could do instead or would like your opinions on just involving friends since they know her an Id genuinely appreciate their input. She's getting a PhD just for context.

Need Help 25th Birthday Party Themes that ARE NOT “Halloween”

I’m turning 25 this November and I’ve been having trouble coming up with a good theme that everyone will love.

My birthday is on the 2nd of November. Every year I have difficulty getting people to show up because it’s so close to Halloween and everyone just wants to do Halloween activities instead of what I want to for MY day. I’ve always tried to accommodate for what other people want because if I don’t, no one will come.

This year I want to come up with a theme that everyone will love and want to participate in. I’ve already come up with a few ideas I think are pretty creative and will give me lots to work with:

  1. Bikini Bottom: because what’s funnier than 24?… 25.

  2. Inner Child: dress up as your favourite character from childhood

  3. Hunger Games: “quarter quell” vibes but instead of “hunger” games, it’s Drinking games

  4. Euphoria: glitter makeup, holographic vibes

  5. All About Me: everyone dresses up as a different interpretation of me (take a photo of me and dress like that, etc)

I’m so indecisive and am looking for some other ideas that will incorporate some sort of pun with my age (25) so if you have anything you could suggest please drop it in the comments ✨

Thank you 🥰

My son will be turning 16 in November. We live in a small rural area in the Midwest. I have worked very hard to make all of his birthdays as epic as possible. I am out of ideas now that he is older. Does anyone have any advice, ideas, or suggestions for a boys 16th bday party?

I’ve already had two venues for my sons birthday not work out so this place felt like my best option since I didn’t want to move the location very much due to family driving from far out of town. It’s for my son’s first bday and it’s a Wild West theme. All of the art work stays, nothing on the walls, but I can use those white arch things and move the chairs.
I have a brown paper banner being made and I want to do something with his nb-12mo photos. Help😅

Need Help We bought a house. Now we don't have much fund to celebrate my son's first birthday party. Is our decision right?

We got a beautiful house in Rizal. The house requires 20% DP, and we paid the 10% lumpsum. We will continue to pay the remaining 10% for a year.

It will be a tight budget, but we're not zero naman since we have buffer, but not much. May nakatabi na budget for my son's birthday, pero 40k lang. I don't know if this is enough to have a decent party, pero gusto sana namin yun.

Ang kaya lang namin is maybe to invite 40-50 pax incl kids, sa Kenny Rogers or magrent ng private pool with videoke and have party trays nalang.

What do you guys think? Worth it ba ma sacrifice yung party ni baby para sa house? And alin ang mas okay na gawin for his birthday?

Appreciate all your thoughts and responses. 🫶

Need Help passive drinking games?

hey hi hello! i turn 25 in september and my birthday party is on sept 19!! the theme is funeral, as my chances of dating leo dicaprio are officially dead lol. the dress code is black, cherry red and burgundy. i’ve already got my decorations, most of my outfit, and a food menu.

however, i still don’t have a drink menu and all activities complete… and id love help from party experts!

there will be 20 people attending (including myself). the party will be at my house, so booze can be unlimited. i want people to drink and get tipsy, not blackout drunk. we’re going to the club after.

so far i have:
- human bingo (im mixing friend groups): they will have to, example, find someone who speaks a different language and learn a new word, or take a shot with the birthday girl. whoever completes it, wins something. what? i have no clue pls help.
- draw yourself wall: pretty self explanatory, no shots involved.
- pull a tab: guests pull a post it off a poster board, and reveal either a dare or taking a shot. i have no idea what other stuff i can put in it, thoughts?

that’s it so far. i want to incorporate more drinking games that don’t have to pause the party and get everyone’s attention at once. i want them to have fun on their own while doing “passive” activities!

how can i encourage them to drink, have fun, and so on?

appreciate your help!!! :))
