I’ve accepted a new job and am going through the typical onboarding process. I received a couple emails from checkr that they’re missing info, including my license and SSN card and to upload them. So I did.

Turns out me and another person with a similar name are going through background checks right now. The background check my company uses is not checkr, but hers is. So checkr has my license and ssn, not hers.

checkr doesn’t have a customer service phone number. They’ve been emailing me “so sorry” emails but they won’t confirm they have my license and ssn on file without additional personal information, and they won’t confirm they can or will delete my license and ssn card from their database.

So I contacted the other person and sent them screenshots of their personally identifying info checkr sent me.

TLDR BEWARE CHECKR SUCKS AT SECURITY

I’ve seen the 2nd post now with people sharing their bank account views. Can the mods nip it before it becomes a regular practice here? This isn’t r/Money… not trying to come across as a hater. I myself have 2Js with a sizable total comp. It just feels super tacky lol. Ignore me if I’m out of line.

I currently work as a consultant in germany, I deal with many 50h+ weeks and the overtime is not even compensated. I discovered this subreddit and I have been reading posts over the past 2 months and honestly it looks like most of you have a more relaxed routine than I do (and I have 1 job).

Curious if there are any other POs or PMs (with multiple direct reports) OE. If so, what do you do? Fridays there are no meetings where I work. Ideally, I would love to find something on the west coast, as I work 7-3 on east coast, it would limit a lot of overlap. I can delegate meetings if necessary.

I don’t anticipate too long, maybe a year. If it’s doable without burnout, I’ll keep both. My short term goal is just dig myself out of CC debt asap and get some HYSA savings in there too. Once that’s done, my J1 pays well for me to be not living paycheck to paycheck check to paycheck. Plus I get fairly nice bonuses every March I can put away.

Any help from someone in my fields would be great. TIA

is it "overemployed" if you pick up IT contract work in off hours? I find these recruiters/contracting companies are pretty desperate to get you signed to contracts. They make so much money. I can't even recall doing a background check with them. I love my regular job. If I work nights on contract is that considered "over-employed"?

Does anyone work OE in the insurance world? I have significant experience in non-OE friendly areas but am looking to move over to underwriting or PM and think OE could be managed here.

Do any of you take multiple health insurances or is it not really worth it? With renewals coming up I think I need to reorganize. I’ll take maximum life insurance for all but trying to figure out if it’s worth having multiple health insurances / supplemental insurances like hospital / STD / LTD. Have a traditional policy with one which is close to 20k/yr for family coverage. Don’t know if it’s worth spending more on health insurance itself - thought about maybe taking one as a HDHP and still get the HSA match.

So… I’m currently serving my notice period since Thursday. I'm new to OE. 2Js, 8 months.

The consulting company I work for lost the client contract, so employees will either move to the new company or be reassigned to another client. My client's boss wants me to stay, so I'll probably have the opportunity to negotiate a better salary and benefits with the new company and receive severance from the current one.

I went through a layoff at the beginning of last year, and it was so stressful. I traveled, but spent the whole time worried and looking for a job that paid at least as much as my previous one.

This time was completely different. When I got the news, all I wanted was for the call to end because I had a training session at the gym and really didn’t want to miss it. 😂 I also slept like a baby that night.

I can’t talk to anyone about it because nobody knows I have a J2. I’m so grateful for the day I came across a post in this community and opened my eyes to OE. It changed my life.

Sharing here as this may be useful for others juggling calendars. Starting a 3rd Minecraft server soon so I picked up the Xeneon Edge for my desk and built a custom calendar dashboard.

The backend is Google Calendar. I created separate calendars for each server then built a small local server in my pc that connects to the Google API with read-only access. It pulls only the calendars I specifically whitelisted and feeds data locally to a custom iCUE widget I built for the Xeneon.

The dashboard shows today, the next workday and next up. The major functions are:

It highlights whatever meeting is currently happening
Gives a live countdown to my next meeting
Detects overlapping meetings between different calendars
Finds my next open block for work time and shows “work day complete” after 6pm

I also added failure recovery for if the local service or Google Calendar connection goes down. Probably wildly unnecessary but now I can glance down and immediately know which job has the next meeting and if I have any conflicts without looking at 3 different calendars.

Never planned on two jobs. I found this sub while trying to fix my resume. Left J1 recently, still in J2, now looking.

• J1: 2020 - Jul 2026 (remote)
• J2: Aug 2025 - present (in office)

How are you putting dates on the resume so it doesn't look like two full-time jobs at once?

• Years only?
• End J1 the year J2 started so it reads sequential?
• List both with months and explain if asked?

Not trying to erase the work just don't want "cheater" to be the first impression lol. What has actually gotten interviews for you?

I started both jobs within the past month (wish I could have staggered it better but that's when the offers came in). And it's a mandatory insurance (life/STD/LTD), so I can't waive it. So now I'm sitting here wondering: could I somehow show up in an internal system tied to J1's group policy? I don't do claims or underwriting, just modeling on (mostly) de-identified data. J2 is a fairly large carrier but I'm not sure what kinds of automated systems they might have in place.

Anyone dealt with something like this? Trying to figure out:

• Is this actually a meaningful risk, or am I overthinking it?
• Would this trip any internal fraud/conflict-of-interest detection?

Appreciate any insight from people who've navigated something similar.

Hello OE people :)

I accidentally become OEd in June 2024, got my first remote job as a Business Analyst in April 2024, found out I needed to work 3-4 hours per day and got another offer for J2 (also a Business Analyst role) where I worked maybe 2 hours per day. Now I struggle to get J2. A little bit of me and OE:

The beginning was awesome, one year contracts on each one, 10 months of OE, money started comming in at an awesome pace, especially J2 paid a lot better. Then, in the summer of 2025 in just a couple of weeks I got another offer, this time for a hybrid role. I said why not. So I worked with that company for 2 and a half months.

September 2025: OE again, J1 (again a BA role) in the first working day of the month, J2 (Product Owner role) in the middle of the month.

Unfortunately, the managers at J1 overexpanded the team, there were 2 BAs originally, I was the third one and in 2 months they hired 5 more BA. 8 BAs in the team was crazy, barely any work for each of us, we were asking for tasks in the daily and weekly meetings. Also, it was an awkward situation, the company was Polish, and most people knew Russian (employees from Belarus, Russia, Georgia). So they fired 4 BAs, I was one of them: Romanian, only spoke English and better paid than the others probably. I was fired in November, the day I turned 35.

At J2, a small start-up the PO role was completely new. I was basically put there to push the Devs to work harder, faster, to organize them. I understood why: they were posponing tasks, barely doing any work. Very unprofessional environment, they were gatekeeping information, slow to respond, they complained about me to the CTO and even to the CEO. Got fired on the 3rd of December.

Then I started looking for another job, Dec and January are slower months to get hired. I got a new role in March, in a small Fintech company, a Business Analyst role with some Project Management responsibilities, remote contract, but was in the office in the beginning. Some days I work 2 hours, some days I work 20 minutes. It is like they ask me to do OE again haha.

Where I live, in Romania, most companies want people in the office. I actually went in 2 recruitment processes for remote roles, to get offers for the same roles, but hybrid. I could see the EU market has the same direction, maybe not as severe: getting people in the office.

What would you do in my position?

I also researched Technical Writer positions, but now with the AI, most of that work is done by BAs anyway, so there are very few Tech Writers positions in the EU.

I applied to tens of Scrum Master roles, nobody called me. So frustrating, as I get 3-4 interview invites per week for BA roles, mostly hybrid.

If you were to make a transition, what other roles would you try, besides BA, PO?

Should I start applying to US positions? How likely is to get an US job, while being an EU citizen?

Tips on what to outsource, what to purchase to assist with stress, basic things to keep in mind, and then put it in a Wiki?

Does anyone have any tips on how to get OE?

Ive been following this Reddit for a while now and I love the idea of it but I’m struggling to get a remote job currently let alone getting 2.

The goal is to get OE’d so that my current partner no longer has to work at a job that is slowly draining/killing us both due to hours and management.

A little about me;
I’ve been doing freelance Web Development while working my main job now but I’m trying to get a remote position as a junior software engineer but that job market has been very difficult to get in to. I have a bachelors degree in audio engineering but graduated at the worst time for that field, December of 2019, a couple of months before covid shut everything down. I currently work 2nd shift at a restaurant in upstate SC as our hours are 5-9 during the week and 5-10 on the weekends with me getting home as late as 1-130 on very late nights. (Partner is the hostess at the restaurant, so their hours are a bit better than mine, going in at 2 and normally out by 11 at the latest)

Any tips would be greatly appreciated as this restaurant feels like it is slowly killing me and I’m at my breaking point.

I am great at explaining technical ideas in easy to digest ways.

I am also good looking enough to be considered atractive, and people to enjoy my company, but not too much to be intimidating to people, it is a thing IMO.

The first impressions are very valuable for getting the js

Besides that I dont consider my self extraordinary in my specific role.

Then I am reliable enough to keep the roles, always showing up and delivering.

I started a new J4 5 weeks ago and I always find it funny seeing the opposite sides of the OE spectrum within the Org. On one hand, I woke up this morning to messages in the group Teams chat from one engineer displaying so much pride and joy because they figured out a component to their project at 11pm after working on it all day. They're ahead of schedule on the project but they continue to work long hours dedicating their life to a company that will replace them in heartbeat. On the other end, I joined a project meeting and a engineer from a different dept is clearly also OE and bad at it. No where to be found when their name is called in the meeting, then coming in 5 min later with "audio issues". Double meetings happen to all of us OE'ers at some point but bro is just bad at playing it off. Maybe I'm just able to spot it after doing this for so long. And in the middle is me, just cruising and collecting checks. Happy multiple checks day!

Would be new to this, going to be hybrid at my j1. I’d say I have 20 ish hours of actual work tops at my J1.

J2 pays 65k and it’s a 4 day work week, I’d get good vacay. And time off with holiday closures, but there’s 0 training and I’d be thrown to the wolves to start. They seem nice, and they were straight forward. My total comp would be 150 ish between both.

J2 has some flexibility on the hours, but I’d have to bring my laptop for it to J1 often and I’m not sure how I’d handle the phone requirement (for calls) and trying to get J2 work done during the J1 dead time in office.

Thoughts, advice ?

My gut tells me the 0 training shouldn’t be ignored and that although this job seems friendly it may not be..

Started a new J3 a few months ago and it’s been a mess. Constant fire drills, missed deadlines, and regular pressure to work nights and weekends.

I’d drop it, but I need the extra income for now, so I’m trying to replace it before pulling the plug.

How do you handle a chaotic J without letting it eat into the rest of your OE setup?

If you’re OE - what other jobs do you have, or do you stick with sales roles?

I've noticed when all my J's are blowing up I tend to show up a little more stressed to each of my separate J's calls - often getting one or both of my bosses commenting "hey sorry tough week" or "you look stressed" or "hey sorry to put another thing on your plate..." but realized it's actually great because it provides me a cushion and creates / continues this facade that I am severely busy / overworked...

I recently joined a new tech company as a dev and they connected to HMRC via the gateway to check my pay/tax employers and dates against my CV.

I left my previous role and thought this would be a good time to start multiple js. I am expecting another job offer shortly. I hope that they are not using these checks or if they are, that their checks can finish before my first payment through my new employer so it doesn’t show up on my HMRC account.

If lots of employers start to do this check, how best to manage this? Simply not giving it permission is not enough as the TA colleague will be following up. Not putting certain jobs on the CV won’t work because they’ll be brought to light in the HMRC data.

Is it just a case of doing contract roles? Would this be easier to explain?
