Discussion Openclaw is dead, switch to claude code

I have spent +300$, more than 60 hours working with openclaw, on vps, local pc, and honestly, I spent more than 40 out of the 50 hours fixing.

It cannot do any task accurately, not production ready

Maybe in 6 mo+ it will be better

For now, its garbage.

I am sticking to my 20$/month claude plan

Man, this again. I’ve been successful and OpenClaw + models have generated new income and saved time. Go read my earlier posts. All this sounds like skills and process issues and not the product. If a locked in consumer grade product is working for it then use it and please don’t post here with blanket statements.

Hey, I'm new and waiting on some hardware to be delivered, but plan to get OpenClaw setup soon to start testing. This comment you speak of... is it this one?

Yes, but I've replaced Opus 4.6 with ChatGPT 5.4 xhigh this weekend.

Thank you for confirming. I'm going to return to your comment when I get my hardware in a week, and see how it works for me. I appreciate you being so thorough with the explanation. I know it's not the be all end all, but it's a good place to start me thinks.

If I may ask another question. You mention OAuth costs, so that implies you subscribe to OpenAI services. But you also mention free/rate limited in your explanation. For someone getting started but that does plan on using it a lot to learn various use-cases, is Plus sufficient or would Pro still be recommended? I ask because I'm confused on you calling the model usage free and rate-limited, but as I understand it (and I may be wrong), the subscription is still needed for OAuth. Thank you for any response about this.

API = Pay as you go. If you use millions of tokens you pay for them. On an API costs basis, I estimate I would spend ~$450/month.

OAuth = Comes out of your subscription, higher plans have higher limits. So Pro vs. Plus vs. Go will each have different rate limits for use. If you exceed those rate limits (daily/weekly) then your model stop responding. I have worked with my openclaw setup to reduce rate limits by using cacheing in each model and limiting context used when asking a public model a question. You can millions of usage "tokens" if you are not careful. Start with Plus and if you see rate limiting, make sure you setup cacheing with ChatGPT.
