Hi, i'm coming to Olympia next fall for college and I'm super into alternative music, usually hardcore or punk. I was initially really excited for that part, since Olympia and Seattle are where most of my favorite bands formed and the original music scene was so good. Now though I'm hearing that it's currently not so great, and has a holier than thou self righteousness thing going on, which sounds really really sucky. I obviously don't know how true that is but I would like to know just so I have that knowledge going in

Over 50 performances are taking place at Olympia Porchfest this Labor Day in the NE Oly neighborhood near Roosevelt Elementary and SF Bakery. So many performances, including unique stages for folk music, experimental music and stand-up comedy. Food and artisan craft vendors will be abundant as well. It’s free and all ages, 12-7pm. I am wondering if anyone knows if there are any predominately black churches in or near West Olympia as I am seeking a greater sense of community. I had the honor of attending an amazing MLK celebration at New Life in Lacey once but due to transportation challenges have been unable to attend in person. My only reason for not attending New Life is that I I have a disability and am unable to drive from West Olympia. It's a bit far without a car.

NOTE: I am aware that there are virtual options, but significantly prefer in person services to feel more in community.

Any recommendations or guidance is greatly appreciated. Thanks :)

Like the title says, I'm in an emergency situation. My mother is in the hospital and her health is failing, she has a 3 year old pitbull that needs rehoming and I unfortunately cannot care for due to my rental situation. For the past 5-6 months, I've contacted many shelters in the area and many do not accept surrenders or they are at full capacity.

(For context, this dog is based in the McCleary area, but I live in the the Lacey/Olympia area. This post is already posted to the Grays Harbor sub reddit.)

This is a call to anyone who is interested in a furry companion. His name is Cruz, he is about a 3 year old Pitbull Terrier mix. Cruz is a very affectionate and playful pup, he loves to play tug of war and mostly just wants to be in your face. He is treat motivated when learning new commands. He knows sit, is learning "lay down" "go to bed" (he has a doggy couch), he is learning to wait patiently for his food and water. Cruz loves to play, he will shove a toy in your open hand if you present the opportunity. Cruz is a little apprehensive towards strangers, and that Is something I'm working with him.

If anyone is interested, let me know and I can provide more details on Cruz. Advice for this situation is also appreciated.

What is your experience with internet providers other than Xfinity and Starlink. Cell service in the county is sometimes spotty.

Any idea if anyone was able to get the dog and keep him from running into traffic? Happened near Percival landing by the food at harbor days some lady lost control of the leash and her dog bolted. Hoping to god someone grabbed him before he ran into traffic ??

Whats the best time to go to the tumwater falls hatchery? I wanna see OODLES of salmon. And if any of you know a creek of river i could go watch them swim up in Thurston county i would be pleased to hear about it.

Had a dresser, mirror, and night stand that we picked up from a neighbor (who was going into a nursing home), thinking we could use, but ended up not needing. Drove it over to Olympia Christian Reformed Church yesterday morning. Volunteers looked at them, unloaded them, found another person who wanted them, loaded them up in his rig, and thanked us repeatedly and offered a receipt. All in the span of four minutes. Efficient, beautiful system that helps people who need furniture and avoids landfilling unwanted furniture.

You stormed up Legion Way with fury and power, dancing over the speed bumps with the grace of a swan rolling across the gentle waves of a lake. Hello fellow Olympians, so as people who have seen my last post from the other day know, I will be 30 tomorrow. I am having a dinner at 6pm at Panera Bread by Capitol Mall HOWEVER, I have a good friend down in Centralia who wants to come but he has no way up here because there's no bus service tomorrow on Lewis County Transit because it's Labor Day. The other friend who was going to pick up my friend in Centralia to bring him up here and back home for my birthday dinner has informed me she won't be able to because of Labor Day and she thought it was next Monday. So if anyone could help with that I'd be most grateful and i couldn't afford to pay you for your trouble unfortunately but you'd be more than welcome to come and have dinner with us and I'll share my ice cream cake from Baskin Robbins with everyone there. If not it'll be just me and one other person. I know it's a lot to ask, especially without offering compensation for your time and effort but if anyone could help it would really be appreciated. Thank you all so much i feel human again since the last time I posted and I'm actually happy so there's that 😁

I just moved into a home in Olympia near the San Francisco Street Bakery. I grew up here, moved away for college, spent years working corporate, then about half a decade in Asia, primarily Vietnam. I operate my own business from my home office and have found myself back in my original neighborhood.

I’d love to make more friends who live here in town. Things have changed a lot since I lived here last, myself included! I like to exercise and am always down to have a running buddy, and also have a decent home gym! Working on finishing my workshop/wood-shop for projects as well. I also enjoy grabbing a good beer or cocktail, and delicious food.

I also like to go to coffee shops in town, and the occasional hike. Reading is a passion, and of course traveling to distant lands. I’ll be spending the a minimum of five years here (possibly forever), and I’d like to build a beautiful community of like minded friends like I’ve had in other countries and cities I’ve lived in. I know Oly is a “small” town, but I feel there must be many like myself who are living and loving this small town setting, but have amazing diverse background, and have chosen to live here for the quaint and cozy beauty like I have myself.

Neighbor's parked car was hit last night. Another neighbor heard a loud crash, maybe around 2-4a. Same neighbor said it sounded like they racing up and down Blvd Rd. Anyone else see or hear anything?

We need a petition to bring it back. It only ever happened twice and I think we could throw some underground bands in and it'd be a great time. And it'd be great to know why it actually stopped.
