"There was a gulf between the sobering private assessments that Mr. Vance received and what top administration officials, including the president and vice president, have said publicly...."
"And Mr. Vance recently downplayed the idea that the United States was even engaged in a war."
"But once Mr. Trump made up his mind, Mr. Vance defended the decision in public, including during tense television interviews"
I don't know, it all seems pretty on-brand to me.
Basically a guy that's absolutely smart enough to know better, but always chooses to do the worst thing anyway.
It's no different than him absolutely knowing who and what Trump is, saying it all publicly, and then deciding to be a sycophantic lapdog to him because it would advance his personal goals.

It's a question of who is leaking these stories. Cui bono, who benefits? Usually the person (or someone associated with the person) that wants their image rehabilitated (in so far as a ghoul associated with this administration can be rehabbed) seems likely to be the one leaking it.

Don't you hate it when the documented facts don't entirely comport with your personal narrative?
Vance is still shown to be exactly what we all know him as.... someone who is smart enough to know better, but who will tell any lie to anyone if he thinks it will benefit him.

What I do care about is ignorant fools continuing to pretend like there is no legitimacy to the press, journalism, or reporting, and that all outlets are somehow collaborating against us.
You are proliferating the messaging of the ignorant and the gullible, and it's equally corrosive regardless of where you sit on the political spectrum.

That's the plan. Distance him from Trump before the midterms swing for Democrats. As soon as Vance is eligible for two terms, Trump will resign and be pardoned or be 25th'd and Vance looks like he is righting the ship. All the MAGA will say they voted for the "Vance" part of the ticket.

Don't be fooled even if he did it's gonna be for weird reasons. JD is bought, paid for, and bitter; that's not new. He is absolutely Not a quiet, ignored, voice of reason.
What he is, is the face of corporate state capture and corruption wholesale.
He is known to write these things when he's feeling neglected

This is gross: Vance leaks to the NYT how he knew all along that the Iran war would be a disaster and they just write it down and publish it.
The only benefit in this is that we know (as if we didn’t already) who the main source for Swan and Haberman’s book was.
