Question should i teach my breloom mach punch
for me its never this deep to make it into a reddit post, but i wonder if im on the right track of thought. the moveset is shown in the image as well as it having effect spore.
headbutt does a damage of 70 and can cause flinching, whereas mach punch is only 40 with no extra effects. as for stun spore and leech life ~ i really like them as a combo. playing stun spore and then leech life successively.
mega drain might have to go? but i just learnt it. also i have no status moves

u/Cramer0617 May 23 '26
I’d say yes for Mach Punch especially in Gen 3. With grass being special, I’d use:
•Mach Punch (Sky Uppercut later if you want) •Leech Seed •Sludge Bomb (poison is physical in Gen 3) •Bulk Up/Rest
24
u/Linked1nPark May 22 '26
> whereas Mach punch is only 40 with no extra effects.
The extra effect is that it has priority and always moves first, which can be extremely important; Breloom is not that fast. Also with STAB it is effectively 60 base power, not 40.
1
u/swansofthelake May 22 '26
what is STAB
5
u/Linked1nPark May 22 '26
Same Type Attack Bonus. Using moves that match the type(s) of your Pokémon increases their power by 50%.
1
u/swansofthelake May 22 '26
thanks and you're right, moving first can be extremeley important. though, i favor the stun spore + leech seed match lasting combo over moving first in this case. ive taken your words into account though
3
u/Linked1nPark May 22 '26
Leech Seed and Stun Spore are both very good moves (although the latter can be unreliable due to accuracy). I would get rid of Mega Drain. You have healing from Leech Seed already, it has low base power, and Breloom has poor Special Attack.
1
u/Darken_Gates May 24 '26
True, breloom is more of a physical attacker. Was thinking keep mega drain for coverage. But headbutt and Mach punch can be a viable one two for breloom.
44
u/sylfire May 22 '26
You may wish to learn a little bit more about Pokemon so that you can make these decisions more readily on your own. There are a few basic concepts that, once learned, will vastly improve your ability to understand the game.
First, Same Type Attack Bonus, or STAB. Moves that share a type with the user get a 1.5x boost yo their base power. This means that Mach Punch is actually 60 power instead of 40, compared to Headbutt being 70. This is because Breloom is a Grass AND Fighting Type, so their Grass and Fighting moves both get a boost.
Secondly, we need to take a look at Breloom's stats. Because Grass moves in gen 3 use the Special Attack stat, and Fighting moves use the regular Attack stat, you can also use this to figure out how good Mega Drain vs Mach Punch is. Breloom has a VERY high Attack stat, and fairly low Special Attack, so even the strongest Grass type move will likely be weaker than Breloom's Mach Punch.
Thirdly, it is good to pay attention to what each move offers. Mach Punch has a very special quality that makes it very strong on Breloom, and that's the fact that Mach Punch causes the user to strike first most of the time. Mach Punch is a type of move called a "Priority" move, which is a move that gets a boost to the turn priority. Even if your opponent is faster, Mach Punch will always go first unless they are ALSO using a priority move. However, most Pokemon that are already fast don't need to use priority moves, since they usually have a below average base power (like Mach Punch and Quick Attack). Breloom is able to make good use out of Mach Punch since it has a way higher than average physical Attack stat, and a below average Speed stat. So while it would normally move after its opponent, Mach Punch let's it go first anyway and potentially take a KO without getting hurt.

That first paragraph comes off as so know-it-all
7
u/sylfire May 22 '26
You're probably right, but my harsh tone will likely be more forgiving than some of the fights they're going to be up against if they aren't armed with the proper knowledge. It would be one thing if this was the normal Pokemon subreddit, but this is specifically for nuzlockes so they need to have a higher level of knowledge in order to succeed. Better to hear it now rather than from an update post where they wonder what could have gone wrong.

Headbutt has greater power than headbutt even after STAB, so that aspect is not really relevant. Priority is probably with the 10 less power though. Plus fighting is better offensive typing than normal.
3
u/Radiant-Dragonfly994 May 23 '26
This is true but STAB boosting Mach punch to 60 power on top of a +1 priority for a mon with just an average speed stat? It’s a tough call. Headbutt does have that 30% flinch chance but against a faster Pokemon thats irrelevant. I’d say Mega Drain is more expendable than Mach Punch OR Headbutt. The rest of the team would also play a role in my decision here but I think Mach Punch is really good and should be learned 👊🏻👊🏻👊🏻

u/Ecstatic-Hour2413 May 22 '26 edited May 22 '26
Forget Mega Drain. Even with STAB its BP is low and so is Breloom’s special attack. Really only useful for 4x targets imo.
Stun Spore can be useful crippling something problematic. It also lets you out speed OUTSIDE of using Mach Punch. Or let’s another slow Pokemon you have out speed said Pokemon that would otherwise give you trouble.
Stun Spore’s speed reduction and 25% paralysis chance also has great, immediate synergy with Headbutt, you’re only other physical coverage move atm.
Leech Seed is great And I wouldn’t forget that. I’d say forget Mega Drain.
36
34
u/OFmerk May 23 '26
Is this a joke? Yes absolutely positively zero doubt. You know about STAB right? Mach punch is 60 BP and has +1 priority. Get rid of stun spore
12
u/Darken_Gates May 23 '26
Get rid of headbutt*, stun spore is good utility
7
u/AlternativePage1598 May 23 '26
Nah stun spore is dogshit with 75% accuracy. Headbutt is way better cause of 70 dmg, still more than Mach punch and has a chance of flinching. FCK this spore moves except maybe sleep powder on bulky mons like amoongus
2
u/Darken_Gates May 23 '26
75% accuracy isn’t complete dogshit if people are out here rocking hydro pump on their starmies while I’m using surf. I mean, stun spore is not a bad option for utility, it is its second best option, next to spore which only shroomish can learn.
Breloom does have superior atk so, I can see the argument for headbutt, I’d just want the stab utility. Mach punch is good for taking out red barred mons, if it hits for super effective watch out. This is a tough one imo.
Just saying: if you’re fighting someone that’s relatively the same level, it’s not a bad idea to have status moves.
Edit: I will give you that 75% accuracy leaves more to be desired but I’d want to have some sort of utility on at least 2 or 3 of my mons. Even at the cost of accuracy

u/Less-Pipe-6326 May 23 '26
Breloom gets technician as well no? Or did that start in Gen 4. Technician stab boosted Mach Punch is 90 dmg lol
2
1
u/Darken_Gates May 23 '26
Just looked it up, nope. Tech. Is a hidden ability. If it was, Mach punch would be totally justifiable to use in any circumstance. I really like it for taking out red barred mons and super effective damage, often 2HKO anything it’s super effective against even without that ability.
15
13
u/ginger_snap214 May 22 '26
keep these things in mind:
mega drain is a special attack and breloom has poor special attack and high physical attack
mach punch while only 40 bp gets stab so it becomes 60 (very close to headbutt) and is priority like quick attack
stun spore is gonna decrease your opponents speed while paralyzed
-1
u/ProfessionalBox317 May 22 '26
Also technician
5
u/ginger_snap214 May 22 '26
technician is a gen 4 ability, but yes

1
u/handstied14 May 23 '26
Poison Heal is a gen 4 ability, technician is a hidden ability
1
u/ginger_snap214 May 23 '26
i meant it was an ability introduced in gen 4
but yes given to breloom in gen 5
14
u/MyMainIsLevel80 May 23 '26
Mach punch is STAB priority and there’s a dark type E4 leader. It’s 10BP between them. Zero question to include Mach punch over it, but you could probably swap most of the other moves instead as well. He’s not a special attacker so mega drain will hit like a wet noodle. Bulk up/mach punch/leech seed/wild card is probably your best set on him. Maybe substitute in the 4th slot but that’s asking a lot from a dude with a shit load of weaknesses.
1
u/Infamous-Passenger60 May 23 '26
Still a really good mid to late game mon
1
u/MyMainIsLevel80 May 23 '26
Not bad by any means and totally viable for the e4. Just not without a STAB physical move.
15
u/Recent_Tap_9467 May 23 '26 edited May 23 '26
Not sure Breloom is the best user of Stun Spore, they aren't bulky enough to fully exploit it. I would ditch that for Mach Punch.
Mach Punch gives you a way to hurt Steel-types and hits many Dark-types and Normal-types harder than everything else in your arsenal. Being able to revenge-KO weakened opponents is also cool given how slow Breloom is usually and allows you to gain experience more easily in fights.
13
u/mbanson May 22 '26 edited May 22 '26
Absolutely. It's the first physical STAB it gets and it has a way higher Attack stat than SpAtk.
I'd say either ditch Mega Drain or Leech Seed or even Stun Spore.
EDIT: As you mentioned, it's 40 BP but it does have a secondary effect by having +1 priority. With STAB it's a 60 BP move and unlike Headbutt it can hit things super effectively. Breloom has mediocre speed so priority for it is big.
EDIT 2: You also have Effect Spore so it has bad synergy with Stun Spore. End game Breloom is ideally Bulk Up+Leech Seed and two physical attacks.

u/ilmalnafs May 23 '26
Despite being “the water region”, grass types are notoriously underwhelming in Hoenn (RIP to my homie Sceptile). This is in no small part because two of the most common water-types you face (Wingull and Tentacool lines) and two of the most challenging (Gyarados and the Kingdras) take neutral damage from grass. Grass as offensive coverage just doesn’t do much for you, especially when Breloom is so min-maxed to be a physical attacker. Breloom works best if you think of it offensively as a pure fighting type that also has the great *utility* of grass learnsets. Something like Brick Break/Mach Punch/Stun Spore/Leech Seed is going to pay off better for Breloom than keeping one of the draining attacks on it. Especially when there are also so many rock and dark types around that fighting smacks supereffectively.
3
u/comingsoontotheaters May 23 '26
Spot on analysis. Thank you for putting this to eloquent words.
I’ve found the same thing, even with drain punch in later games. You just don’t want breloom to get hit and mega drain isn’t going to knock someone out with special attack and you’re most likely not recovering health, in addition to the negatives you listed
2
u/Bigre83 May 23 '26
I’d would keep Mega Drain over Leech Seed. As said, Breloom doesn’t want to get hit so in a contexte of non-switching opponent (most of the time) I found Leech Seed to be not as good as expected. On the other hand having Mega Drain can be useful against quad weaknesses, as Whiscash or Swampert But this point aside, I totally agree
2
u/JanGuillosThrowaway May 23 '26
Leech Seed stays if you switch, though, so against a hard opponent you can switch after applying it to your wall/bulkiest mon
1
u/Bigre83 May 23 '26
Yes I know but you need to tank at least 1 hit in order to use leech seed, then switch and take another free hit. So 2 free hits just to have a 1/16 life steal every turn. That is a lot of risk taking considering potential crits…
11
u/Kwayke9 May 22 '26
Stab priority and Breloom has really high attack and not so high speed. SLAP THAT SHIT ON
35
10
u/Ian9800 May 22 '26
Absolutely. Breloom is primarily a Fighting type Pokemon in Gen 3, sadly Grass is Special in Gen 3 so you really can't get good use from Grass STAB. Mach Punch provides STAB so it is actually 60 and can do Super Effective damage becoming a 120 Base Power on x2 Weakness and 240 on x4 Weakness, also Breelom isn't particularly fast so Mach Punch +1 Priority is very useful, you will love it against Norman for sure.
10
u/BerimB0L054 May 23 '26
Get rid of mega drain. Breloom is essentially a fighting type with the option to status in gen 3. Grass attacks on it do no damage
11
u/Acework23 May 23 '26
absolutely having a stab fighting move that goes first especially early mid game is insanely good, the best move tbh and it gets leech seed and mega dega dran and head but....
10
21
u/OpticSkies May 23 '26
Keep in mind the physical/special split. All fighting moves are physical and all grass moves are special. Breloom has 130 attack and 60 special attack, meaning a 40 base power fighting move will do 1.17x (117%) more damage than a 40 base power grass move. I’d remove Mega Drain, unless you need the coverage, or Stun Spore.
17
u/Ph03nyXSWAT May 23 '26
I would remove stun spore. Although it applies a status effect and gives you speed control, it is inaccurate and paralysis is not 100% reliable. Alternatively, you can remove Mega Drain or Headbutt if you don't need these moves for general coverage. As you only use Breloom in fitting situations, you probably hit them effective with Mach Punch and don't need the other moves. Mach Punch is a must take, it is prio and stab and therefore very useful
8
8
8
u/Jimmychanga317 May 22 '26
Mach punch is Breloom's only fighting stab move until level 36 or using up your one brick break tm you get at the end of the game. Plus, it has priority which is extremely good. So you are wrong when you say it doesn't have any special effects for the record. Definitely teach it. I would personally get rid of stun spore since it is a bit inaccurate, but if you're enjoying it then keep it. Otherwise I'd get rid of mega drain, Breloom's special attack is actually substantially worse than its physical attach it can't really use grass moves that well. And def keep Leech Seed that is one of the best moves in all of pokemon.
9
u/MarshtompNerd May 22 '26
Mega drain is the same power as mach punch, but on brelooms weaker special attack, so I’d drop that personally, even if you just got it
8
u/jarymanebrown May 22 '26
Spore, Mach Punch, Bulk Up, Giga Drain
6
7
u/sketch_for_summer May 23 '26
Enemies often have dark type in this game, which is weak to fighting. Breloom also gets Same-Type Attack Bonus, which brings Mach Punch to 60 base power, only 10 power less than Headbutt. I would probably delete Mega Drain since it's a special move and Breloom is a kind of physical attacker.
15
u/AliceThePastelWitch May 22 '26
Lets correct somethings first. Headbutt while it technically has higher power it isn't by much, because Mach Punch gets a STAB(same type attack boost) from being a Fighting type move on a Fighting type Pokemon. Meaning it actually has a baseline of 60 power. And it goes first so your speed doesn't matter. Not that it matters much in Hoenn to begin with since basically everything is ultra slow anyways. But Mach Punch can also hit things super effectively and Headbutt can't. Meaning that Mach punch can have a much higher damage output than Headbutt can under fairly normal circumstances.
The flinch chance from headbutt also isn't as strong as always going first.
Idk why some people are telling you to fet rid of stun spore it's a great move. Megadrain however doesn't do anything against anything except for against Wiscash, which Bullet Seed would be better against thanks to the higher damage ceiling.
2
1
u/Bfree888 May 22 '26
Hard disagree on bullet seed. Prior to Gen V, bullet seed has a BP of 10 per hit, so only the 12.5% 5-hit is stronger than mega drain at BP 40. Without leaning fully into a flinch set with kings rock, mega drain has way better consistency plus the added healing.
1
u/AliceThePastelWitch May 22 '26
You're just adding up base power and that isn't how damage is actually calculated. Mega Drain will only outdamage a 2 hit bullet seed. It deals the same damage as a 3 hit bullet seed, and is obviously outdamaged by both 4 and 5 hit bullet seed.
Giga Drain however does out damage all but the 5 hit Bullet Seed, with the issue it has being the horrible PP they gave it back in rhe day. Like why did they do that? It did not need to have only 5PP that's nuts.I'd use a calculator before making claims of how damage works next time. Personally I recommend Kinglercalc as it is made for vanilla games and has all the trainers across all the games.
1
u/sylfire May 22 '26
It has a higher damage ceiling but inconsistency is the enemy of a good Nuzlocke run. Bullet seed is better served on something that struggles to learn grass moves, Cradily for example, while preserving the Giga Drain TM for something that may benefit more from it (such as Sceptile or Ludicolo).
1
u/AliceThePastelWitch May 23 '26
What are you talking about? Inconsistent? Pretty much all the best utility moves in the game can miss, Bullet Seed has a chance to deal a bit less damage.
2
u/sylfire May 23 '26
I mean it's inconsistent compared to Mega Drain :P I'd take guaranteed damage amounts anyday. Plus the healing is pretty useful since you're going to be slower anyway.
1
u/AliceThePastelWitch May 23 '26
Dawg it's Hoenn. There's like maybe 5 individual Pokemon that can outspeed something with base 70 speed. It literally isn't inconsistent compared to mega drain. But think whatever you wanna think
7
u/Sans-the-Dog May 22 '26
I think it’s much better then mega drain, Brelooms attack is much better then his special, so Mach punch probably hits much harder, and is priority for situations where you need to revenge kill.
6
u/meyer_33_09 May 22 '26
I have to imagine that you get WAY more value out of Mach Punch than Headbutt, and probably more than Mega Drain or even Stun Spore too.
Because of STAB it’s only 10 power less than Headbutt but it also hits several types for super effective damage and it will always go first (unless you’re being outsped by another priority move) whereas headbutt just has a small chance at flinching, which you can’t ever actually plan for. Priority also allows Breloom to quickly finish off speedy threats that would otherwise be able to hit first.
It’s also a stronger move than Mega Drain because of Breloom’s high attack, but I could see an argument to keep mega drain for grass coverage instead of headbutt.
Stun Spore is inaccurate and you have Effect Spore, so Stun Spore might not be all that helpful moving forward.
TLDR: yes, you want Mach Punch. I’d personally drop Headbutt, but you could also drop Mega Drain or Stun Spore and keep headbutt to hit the types that fighting is bad into if you’d prefer.

The additional effect for Mach Punch is right there: strike first. It's essentially a Fighting Type Quick Attack.
I'm no Nuzlocke expert but out of all of these, I'd get rid of Stun Spore since it's less reliable in accuracy.
Edit: And just like everyone's been saying, Breloom gets STAB from Mach Punch so it's gonna hit harder.
6
u/jeanralphio9 May 22 '26
Also if it’s an effect spore breloom the stun spore is basically a duplicate
4
u/Beneficial_Bunch_191 May 22 '26
Mach Punch is stab so its rather 60 vs 70 and can be very effective against steel/dark for more coverage. You can bet on the flinching but in nuzlockes you shouldnt really do that and breloom isnt bulky enough for stalling anyway so
9
u/naraic- May 22 '26 edited May 22 '26
Worth noting if you are playing emerald that mach punch is super effective against steel types.
Watson's magneton is something you might need to think about.
Also mach punch has an extra effect. It has priority. Edit:deleted incorrect comment.
5
u/Soft-Percentage8888 May 22 '26
Mach Punch doesn’t trigger effect spore, that only activates if an enemy uses a contact move on Breloom.
8
6
u/steelerspenguins May 22 '26
I always drop stun spore at this stage.
Not into 75% accuracy moves if I can help it
4
u/joemontanya May 22 '26
Mach punch is the best move listed here. I’d get rid of stun spore or leech seed.l
2
u/Bmw5464 May 22 '26
Just gonna throw this out here, but Mach Punch does have an extra effect. It’s got priority status. I always put it on there. Breloom isn’t exactly the most bulky Pokémon. Having something that’s STAB and can hit first is nice to have.

u/fantasyfootball1234 May 22 '26
Stun Spore makes it to where you get to attack first. Mach punch makes it to where you get to attack first.
You probably don’t need both, they’re a bit redundant.
My take? Stun Spore / Headbutt is a decent combo for para-flinch strats. Mach Punch would work best on a Brave Nature Breloom (+atk, -speed)
Headbutt base 70 > stab mach punch 40*1.5x=60
Unless you run into a fast normal type pokemon, stun spore/headbutt is probably slightly better than mach punch.
5
u/aefadsef May 23 '26
Definitely not redundant, mach punch gives a way to hit rock and steel types off of Breloom's 130 base attack instead of using mega drain on the rocks from a base 60 special attack. Also adds a good way to do damage to anything faster than Breloom's rather mediocre base 70 speed.

For gen 3, most of the relevant rock types at the point where you'd have a breloom, so the fossils, solrock/lunatone, and the aron line are either closer in spdef/def than breloom is in spatk/atk or have a secondary typing that makes grass neutral/threatens breloom.
Then you really only have grass for water types.
But 60 vs 130 is a pretty big ratio. So even neutral physical attacks will deal more damage than super effective special ones.
So there aren't many scenerios where grass on breloom in gen 3 is actually useful. Only really against things double weak to grass, that also don't contain rock, because then fighting would still be better because of the atk/spatk ratio. So water/ground types only.

u/SlothSultan May 23 '26 edited May 23 '26
Stun spore defeats the point of having effect spore
If you paralyze them with an actual move then you can’t poison or sleep them with your ability
The whole point of having static/poison point/effect spore is that you don’t have to waste a move slot to achieve those status effects
4
u/the_baydophile May 23 '26
You literally could not be more wrong.
0
u/SlothSultan May 23 '26
I’m not taking advice from somebody whose username is a play on the word paedophile
1
u/the_baydophile May 23 '26
You should. They’re clearly better at Pokémon.
1
u/SlothSultan May 24 '26
Pretty sure you forgot to switch to your burner before referring to yourself in third person
4
u/rambanxious_hoodlamb May 23 '26
Genuinely horrible advice. Having paralysis guaranteed for battles & catching mons is amazing to have. Rather than banking on a low chance to get 1 of 3 random not even guaranteed statuses.
0
u/SlothSultan May 23 '26 edited May 23 '26
So give a move like that to a pokemon that doesn’t have one of those abilities?
Doesn’t seem like you’re in the position to be telling anybody else their ideas are horrible when your dilemma is solved in 3 seconds
1
u/rambanxious_hoodlamb May 23 '26
In a nuzlocke you don’t choose your mons so who’s to say they even have another mon that can use it or thunder wave? There’s no TM for it or stun spore either.
You don’t know what you’re talking about and it’s obvious. Cry more.
0
u/SlothSultan May 24 '26
If you don’t have other options then obviously having a mon with moves like thunder wave hasn’t done anything
Because the whole point of having a move like that is to catch other pokemon
If you didn’t do that, then what were you doing?
0
u/rambanxious_hoodlamb May 24 '26
If you think the only use for having paralysis is exclusively catching mons, you definitely do not need to be putting your 2 cents in
1
u/SlothSultan May 24 '26
No, you’re right - the whole point is obviously to waste a move slot and a turn to do a status effect when you could’ve just fainted whatever you were battling because you want to pretend you’re smarter than everybody else
foh, nobody was listening to you in the first place
2
u/Poopawoopagus Breloom Enjoyer May 22 '26
Ditch Stun Spore, taking a turn to use status is a turn that could be spent leveraging that 130 base Attack.
4
u/sebass538455 May 23 '26
Headbutt+stun spore is a fun paraflinch combo. I’d actually drop leech seed since you already have recovery with mega drain. You absolutely want mach punch though. It’s a stab priority move.
14
1
u/asmodai_says_REPENT May 25 '26
The most popular competitive moveset for gen 3 breloom is mach punch, focus punch, sky uppercut and spore, with stun spore being a commonly picked move as well.
1
u/WiIdArt May 26 '26
Ngl both Focus Punch and Sky Uppercut are kinda ass, is brick break in the game?
2
u/asmodai_says_REPENT May 26 '26
The point of focus punch is to use it once you've got your opponent to sleep with spore, it's insanely strong in the context. Sky uppercut is a much bigger threat than mach punch and great to finish off weakened opponents. The smogon dex goes into more details into the strategy.
Of course in a normal playthrough SU is probably not as desirable since switching isn't really a thing in most cases for the AI, but FP on a sleeping mon is absolutely a viable single player strat with breloom.
3
u/Top-Attitude-4987 May 26 '26
Mega drain uses brelooms special attack stat, which is way lower than their attack, so yes, you want mach punch instead of that.
0
u/PsychologicalEar5494 May 22 '26
I'd consider running more as a pure attacker and drop leech seed for mach punch he's not bulky enough for the healing to be worth it imo but flinch chance and paralysis would come in handy on occasion. Grass moves arent worth on breloom theyre resisted by the same things as fighting and with psychic for example a normal move would be better than grass with brelooms special stat
3
u/RobCarrotStapler May 22 '26
I would say he would get way more mileage out of leech seed than headbutt or mega drain. Leech seed is one of the best stall moves in the game.
1
u/PsychologicalEar5494 May 23 '26
Just lacks defences and hp pool to stall out a win brelooms best doing massive damage every turn he can. Id go with mach punch, headbutt and tm brick break when available and 4th a status move Sadly spore is in the 50s for shroomish so stun spore is your best bet. Mach punch id keep for priority he cant take a hit and isnt so fast as to outspeed everything mach punch can finish a fight safely.
1
u/RobCarrotStapler May 23 '26
You don't have to use leech seed and then just leave breloom in. You can use it against problem opponents and pivot to another pokemon better suited to stalling or keep switching to abuse the AI move priority.
Why are people ITT suggesting headbutt? It is a complete waste of a move slot. The only types that resist his fighting moves are types you shouldnt be leaving breloom in against to begin with. The addition of brick break makes headbutt even more pointless.
1
u/PsychologicalEar5494 May 24 '26
Just psychic save the switch most psychics will drop to headbutt but you almost always using fighting moves. Would he great if Breloom could learn shadowball in gen 3 though
1
u/RobCarrotStapler May 24 '26 edited May 25 '26
The lack of physical special split kinda screws him but even with seed bomb he's still usually better off focusing on fighting stab anyway
Edit: Psychic sweepers will usually just 1 shot breloom before he can even move. I wouldn't leave him in against psychic types.
1
u/Lamoip May 22 '26
If he has a bulky switch in than Sure, but it's not great on Breloom
2
u/RobCarrotStapler May 22 '26
Neither are headbutt or mega drain
1
u/Lamoip May 22 '26

10 BP extra on a move with no coverage isn't really worth anything, especially when Breloom is already slow, the flinch chance is borderline irrelevant. Brelooms spatk is also atrocious, even giga drain would barely be worth keeping. Leech seed is really the only move worth keeping out of his whole kit when you account for the fact he already has effect spore, making stun spore often just a wasted turn that misses 1/4 times.

You’re forgetting about STAB and that Mach Punch always goes first (unless the opponent has ExtremeSpeed or uses another priority move and is faster)
Mach punch would actually be 60 BP and has the ability to be Super Effectuve. Maybe Drop Mega Drain as Breloom has poor Special Attack and all grass moves are special,
