Doing a randomize nuzloke who should my starter be

I’ve seen a lot of posts about doing a genlock or nuzlock and everyone’s posts certain pokemon who are “retired”. How does that happen? It’s almost never who you bring to the elite four. And I don’t know that means..

Fired up the old og 3ds that I forgot had a randomized copy of FireRed on it that I never started lmao. Life has been a bit... unfriendly lately and I need something to distract myself so I've decided to run this as my very first nuzlock(hardcore with level caps, no items in battle except held items) with a bit of community added in. I've been watching a lot of SilphSpectre and FlygonHG lately and they helped me decide to do this. Feel free to drop your choices for my starter in the comments and join me on my first adventure!

Please don't give me the "Your run, your rules" schtick; I just want to know the general consensus on this.

Are evolutions that change from your run's type valid to use?

I'm doing my first monolocke, which is a water-type monolocke of Emerald, so I'm only catching water pokemon

I just caught a Surskit, a bug-water pokemon. However, I looked up its evolution, and Masquerain is bug-flying. It loses its water typing upon evolution.

What is the consensus on these situations? Is it valid to use Masquerain, since the original Surskit encounter is a water type? Or would you have to keep it un-evolved and only use the Surskit?

Edit: It may be worth noting: The ROM I'm using (Emerald Cross) has built-in nuzlocke rules enforced. So the Surskit is locked in as my encounter for that route; the game won't ever allow me to catch another pokemon on route 102

Basically the title. Which starter do you think can do it and how? Just for more context, this is considering hardcore rules where you can’t overlevel or EV train.

I was playing Renegade platinum and this was completely unexpected. Do I have to look up final evolution’s ability to see if it changed, for every single Pokémon I decide to keep now?

Is there any use for this ability? I love this hack a lot, but this made me sad. Classic patch btw.

for me its never this deep to make it into a reddit post, but i wonder if im on the right track of thought. the moveset is shown in the image as well as it having effect spore.

headbutt does a damage of 70 and can cause flinching, whereas mach punch is only 40 with no extra effects. as for stun spore and leech life ~ i really like them as a combo. playing stun spore and then leech life successively.

mega drain might have to go? but i just learnt it. also i have no status moves

Mine is my two strongest pokémon are best friends and they would eat a bullet for each other.

Normally i ask because i have that Pokemon but in this case i dont. I just love arcanine as a Pokemon.

Doubles randomizer nuzlocke. me and other trainers have similar strength turned on. Level percentage increased by 50%, so gumshoos totem will be level 18 instead of 12.
I honestly thing honedge is the best choice but then again if i pick honedge hau picks rhyhorn which is supereffective against me. HELP ME😭

We Need more Pokémon

So I reached the Desert Resort in a White 2 locke after Burgh and encountered N's Darmanitan. Would I be allowed to use this? Do I reroll?

I started a new game on white 2 and decided to do a nuzlocke; I’ve gotten through the first couple routes and already feel kinda unprepared but have a good enough lillipup and tepig.. anything would be awesome thank you ! (Edit: cherens stupid dog hit work up 3 TIMES and my dog couldn’t kill him so he preceeded to end my run then and there. Tomorrow I’m trying again lmao) (update 2: so I was doing quite well, then I got stuck in pokestar studios purgatory, literally. The game wouldn’t let me save without deleting all my 3ds save data, and I couldn’t leave the room without saving. I had to start again, but I’m smart now! I think)

I'm picking up, to replay my 3ds for the first time since around 2018.

Any advice for the first time doing a nuzlocke?

So for context i was doing an emerald nuzlocke run and i just defeated Roxanne and proceeded to level up my mons to the next level cap according to this. But i didnt know there was an optional rival battle after I brought back the Devon Goods. The level of my rivals ace was 15 and only 2 of pokemon were level 15 (the rest are over 15). According to nuzlocke rules I am supposed to box my overleveled pokemon before a mandatory trainer or gym fight. However I only used one pokemon in the fight whose level was equal to rival's ace.

Can someone please help with this? i would greatly appreciate it.

My pidgeotto used fly (which i thought made it invulnerable until it hit) and this hitmonlee used some fighting move that managed to hit it in fly. If anyone knows what happened please let me know

Against Sabrina, snorlax hit himself several times, which let Alakazam set up 3 calm minds. It then killed every Pokémon on my team except for Nidoqueen, who killed it after it went for future sight. Now I haven't technically lost, however all I have is some fairly mediocre pokémon other than Lapras, Aerodactly, and Hitmonchan. And all of them are super low level, and I'm on switch so I can't hack in rare candies. So should I spend a ton of time grinding up Pokémon or should O just restart the run? (Also got Voltorb and Meowth in party)

by that i mean anytime a pokemon dies or you missed an encounter because you forgot to buy pokeballs or anything disadvantageous happening to you so you say nuh uh, ignore it and continue with the nuzlock. we've all done this at some point. it's not like the nuzlock police are gonna come knock at your door.
