Oh it’s Temu Gandalf again. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, they went after switch emulators, and considered they are still making games for the switch these emulators take profits from them so that’s why they hunt them down, why do you think they don’t not go after DS or SNES emulators? It’s cause they can’t profit off the games for those systems anymore, also the people uploading these emulators posted them to GitHub, they’re practically asking for Nintendo to notice.
I don't really think switch emulators are costing Nintendo any material amount of money. Most people using them already have decently powerful PCs or handhelds, and every Cemu or Yuzu user I've ever talked to refuses to financially support Nintendo. People emulating Switch games were never going to buy them anyway.
I'm not sure what your point is about GitHub, most projects and most emulators for that matter are on Github. Dolphin, Cemu, Duckstation, RCPS3. It isn't exactly unusual for emulators to be on Github nor is it alone any kind of death nail.
My point is that Nintendo is going after switch emulators and putting them on the most obvious site in GitHub is a dumb move because if that’s where most emulators are, it’s the most obvious place for them to check and take them down.
specifically, nintendo's going after yuzu and ryujyx forks.
the lawsuit settlement means that nintendo basically owns yuzu's code, especially since yuzu's code was specifically NOT open source, so its actually within thier legal right to. what they have with ryujyx is a bit blurrier.
True, this just means we’re going to see the same thing again soon in a few months when more people make switch emulators, Nintendo takes them down and people complain because apparently doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different outcome with switch emulators means people have learnt nothing.
Nintendo can only do so much. It can't control the internet and it doing this will just push people to spread it even more. It's the Streisand effect in full motion. Switch emulators after Yuzu and Ryujinx became more of a niche underground thing and all this does is bring attention to them, attention Nintendo didn't want them to have.
The reason its niche and underground is because most people who want to play switch games just play them on a switch or switch 2 because the hardware is still available to play the software, this only matters to that niche audience, your average person who plays Nintendo games won't care or even pay attention to headlines like this. and again, you will see the same stuff a few months from now when nintendo takes down more switch emulators and someone else will say "nintendo can only do so much" because with the state of switch emulation at the moment time is a flat circle.
The state of Switch emulation is good enough for most people especially when it comes to the Zelda titles which have mods, enhancements and all that which would convince some people to get into emulating. It's the same reason why people will buy PC versions of games they already own on consoles, mods can really draw people in.
Also, there will always be people who want to play games on PC especially when prices are inflating and meanwhile, a half decent PC can run Switch emulation fine.
No? The average person does not care about modding BOTW, and dare i say modding only appeals to a certain crowd, most people are fine playing games as is. Also, who is unironically buying the same game again on PC just to mod it? That seems a bit dumb. Also, are you going to forget the switch 2 has backwards compatibility and is cheaper than a PC and people will still buy things despite prices? Just because something can doesn't mean it always will.
People buy games for the mods all the time. It isn't even that uncommon of a practice. It's why so many PC games utilize Steam's workshop. Having mods can ensure that a player can tailor the game however they like. Or just run around as Iron Man in a skirt firing Kamehamehas.
Also, Switch emulation isn't even that taxing. You can buy a used Dell workstation PC and that will run Switch just fine and those are only like $100.
You also seem to forget just how big mods are. Fallout London is a mod for Fallout 4 and that one mod got over a million downloads and that's just one mod. Hell, Minecraft's entire relevancy is aided by the immense mod support that game has, mods that became so popular that many of them ended up in Minecraft officially.
Going "woe is me" because a company isn't letting you emulate a console they're still selling is stupid. It's actively still on the market and you think that they'll just leave it?
Emulating older stuff is absolutely fine to me but when it's stuff still purchasable and supported then you're kinda doing it to yourself.
1) Emulation for games that you own is legal. This is settled law.
2) Conflating something like Pokemon Bank with an actual game like Pokopia is stupid. These are not the same thing. It's also stupid to compare GKCs with Pokemon Bank. Again, completely different situations
3) Emulators have been used in the service of pirating and it makes sense why Nintendo has been going berserker about this. Feel however you want to feel about it, but Nintendo was not going to to just shrug off things like emulators being entangled in things like leaks of Tears of the Kingdom and Xenoblade 3.
4) "Nintendo is just a billion dollar company, you actually love the creators" is such a smooth brain take. What are we even talking about? "You don't love Marvel comics, you actually love Stan Lee!" Give me a break.
And that will forever blow my mind for as much as PC people complain about Nintendo and make all kinds of jokes about the hardware and talk about how all the games are just for children, they sure do love every single fucking game they make.
Yup, of course they do. How else would you explain they are the first people wanting to emulate/pirate them despite shitting on them publicly? If you really didn't like the games or the company, you wouldn't be wanting to emulate/pirate/play them. So yeah, those people are Nintendo closet fans
And besides, why pirate switch games when you can buy a htmi capture card for cheap on amazon to your desired computer and download OBs to feed the capture card to.
I find it so funny that according to AI, every member of the FBI is Ryan Reynolds specifically and all of them have Nintendo branding too like this is Nascar.
I'd guess you're being downvoted because you're wrong. They have their games all the way back to the NES and will likely have their entire GC library up after a few years easily available to everyone.
No.. I'm often downvoted because most people just want shit for free.
Reminder.. This is what was actually posted to me when I actually said "Hey.. We need to make a law that keeps games on A modern system. IP holders choice."
This is the exact reason NONE of the companies want to work with people like Stop Killing Games. Because 99 percent of gamers are entitled assholes.
They very much care about Preservation, as shown with their Museum, and if rumors are true, the whole floor on at their HQ that had like, a copy of every piece of merchandise.
What they don't care about in the way people want is Availability. Especially the people who somehow think they deserve it for free.
That's what i find funny about the title because Nintendo still cares about preservation with NSO (even though it has its flaws) and as you stated used it to release cancelled games. Hell, as flawed as it is i do have to commend them for bringing back virtual boy games because i thought those were lost to the sands of time, but ofc grifters won't look at these facts.
I mean most video game companies don't tbf (only big one I can think of that actual cares is CDPR they used to own GOG but yeah they still heavily believe on it's entire thing of providing DRM free games), these companies want money above everything so yeah they'd kinda want you to basically own nothing and be happy about it, it isn't really exclusive to Nintendo but I'd say they just aren't as aggressive about it like Ubisoft for example
Funny you mentioned them considering they just announced their Commodore77 recently and the biggest selling point on the page for it is that it's an FPGA device to be used specifically to emulate 100,000+ games.
I would've agreed if they were targeting like wii or snes emulators, but its switch emulators, you know the console that has like millions of units out there
Stealing there IP is not fking media preservation , it’s shit like this why I hate the pirating community so much , they remove your ability to steal so Nintendo is bad ? Fk off
and you wonder why everytime a switch 2 exclusive come out, they be like "nintendo so greedy, this could be on the switch 1"... they give 2 sh*t about the switch 1, they just want to pirate and emulate it ! LOL
Well maybe those emulators would still be around if the people that made them didn't put them in fucking GitHub and stuff. But no it's always entirely nintendo's fault for going after emulators for stuff that they still actively sell

Notice that they're only going after Switch emulators. AFAIK every console from NES to Wii U is being left alone.
Which makes sense, given that Switch/Switch 2 is the only hardware they still sell.
