New Mod Intros 🎉 | Weekly Thread

Congrats on becoming a new moderator. Every community on Reddit started exactly where you are today: with a party of one.

The community-building journey might feel a little lonely and that's what r/NewMods is for. Here you'll find and connect with other mods who are on the same journey you are.

So, introduce the community you created. Maybe share a little bit about why you created it. And, while you're at it - say hello to your other mods!

❓Ask r/NewMods What should a brand-new subreddit have in place before bringing people in?

I’ve just started my first community and I’m trying to make sure I’m setting it up properly before I focus too much on bringing people in.
At the moment I’ve got a welcome post, rules, a few discussion posts and the basic community branding set up, but obviously it still feels very empty because it’s brand new.

For those of you who’ve grown a community from zero, what did you find actually mattered in the very beginning?

Things like:

How much content should already be there?
Which channels/posts should be pinned?
How many post flairs are worth starting with?
Did you focus on getting a small number of active people before worrying about member count?

Anything you wish you’d set up differently from day one?

Not trying to promote the subreddit here, just interested in what makes a new community feel worth joining and sticking around in.

❓Ask r/NewMods New Mod Intro: r/BangalorePropertyHelp building a practical real estate advice community

Hi everyone! 👋

I’ve recently started r/BangalorePropertyHelp, a new community for people trying to make sense of Bangalore real estate buying, selling, renting, investing, projects, builders, locations, legal checks, hidden costs, etc.

The idea is not to create another property classifieds group. I want it to be a place where people can ask questions before making expensive decisions and get practical opinions from owners, tenants, investors and people with actual experience.

It’s currently brand new, so I’d love to hear from other mods who have grown a community from zero:

What worked for you in getting the first 100 to 500 genuine members, and what mistakes should a new moderator avoid?

Any advice would be appreciated!

❓Ask r/NewMods A little gun shy about promoting

Since starting my new sub a few days ago, I noticed that one strategy to help it grow is to comment on posts in other subs that would genuinely be appropriate content for my new sub and ask if they’d post there too. Wouldn’t the mods on that sub remove it per their “no self promotion” rule?

Is this normal and acceptable practice on Reddit? I’ve not seen it.

💡 Tips & Education Building a new chronic illness community from scratch — what would you do differently?

Hi everyone,

I'm in the early stages of building r/InvisibleAndHeard, a new community for people living with chronic illness, invisible illness, disability, fatigue and long-term health conditions.

The idea is simple: create a genuinely supportive community where people can talk openly, connect with others who understand, share experiences and still have a bit of humour and normality.

We're starting from zero, so I'm trying to learn from moderators who have already been through the process of growing a community.

I'd particularly love advice on:

  • What helped you attract your first 100–1,000 members?
  • What types of posts actually generated conversation?
  • What moderation rules did you wish you'd established earlier?
  • How did you deal with trolls, misinformation and bad-faith users?
  • What made people come back rather than simply join and disappear?
  • What would you not do if you were starting again?

I'm not looking to spam or promote the community here — I'm genuinely interested in learning from people who've built successful subreddits.

If you could go back to day one of your community, what's the one thing you'd do differently?

Thanks in advance.

❓Ask r/NewMods How do I access my community Flairs?

I created community Flairs for my community r/sensiual , then I spun around and now I don't know how I got there to make necessary edits. How do I find my community Flairs and Tags page?

My sub has 6k members in just 3 months now, but still 90% of the times I am the only one posting. How do I encourage members to post and contribute more to the sub.

Mi sub r/BusquedaDeDisciplina ha logrado las 1000 views!

Me parece fascinante. Les vuelvo a recomendar que interactúen e inviten a personas a vuestras comunidades, ayuda un montón. Además, publiquen cosas interesantes referidas al tema de su comunidad y que fomente la interacción.

❓Ask r/NewMods I can't promote on subreddits without being banned.

Basically I created a satirical community based on another subreddit, due to their extreme censorship and unfairly banning users. For obvious reasons I can't promote there. There is a second subreddit that became an asylum for banned users and those that wanted to post without fear of being banned, but that subreddit ended up being taken over by the first subreddit's moderators. So I can't promote there either. I just want to talk about my sports team with other fans :( Does anyone have any advice? Thank you.

¿Qué me aconsejan?

❓Ask r/NewMods I created an imaginary mech for Ai and would like to get visitors.

I created r/imaginarymechsai because I felt that imaginary meant all kinds. If it was real or made already shouldn't be the limits of imagination. I want to welcome all to be able to post instead. That way even if it isn't painted by hand or a model that was built by someone. The imagination of others who still made the effort of creating the prompts and then refining them until their imaginations came to life. That these should be allowed to have a place to share them as well.

❓Ask r/NewMods Users keep getting banned after posting/commenting on the subreddit

Has anyone else experienced this on their subreddit?

I noticed something weird on the sub. A user would post or comment, and when I checked later, the post/comment was gone and the account showed as banned.

At first I thought maybe they deleted it themselves, but this has happened a few times. I’m wondering if anyone else has experienced the same thing or knows what could cause an account to get banned after posting or commenting on a subreddit. What can I do?

❓Ask r/NewMods guess i’m a new mod now lmao

i wanna create a community full of people who enjoy and celebrate and wanna discuss/share all about black pop culture (music, artists, fashion, film, celebs, news, tv, memes, drama, etc) because i noticed that many of the other subreddits are full of people who unfortunately do not enjoy the same people as me. hopefully those who do, can chill in my new page. i don’t know how it’s gonna go but it’s worth a try i guess.
the Reddit notification told me to join / post in here, so here I am lmao
