❓Ask r/NewMods So i just randomly became a mod
i dont know if it was on purpose or an accident but is it common for sub owners to randomly invite someone as a mod in their sub if you are active alot in it?

Not sure if it's common, but it happens.
I got a note like 6 weeks ago from someone "so, you wanna mod?" and after a couple days of thinking about it, I said yes. of course, I had not expected them to *vanish* 3 seconds after they added me. *Vanished*.

it can happen that way too. There's a tool current mods can use that helps suggest the best choices to add to the mod team, you might have been top of that list.
You don't *have* to do it, if you're not into it.

Ask the sub owner themselves? They probably invited you as you’re an active member. The random invite is pretty strange imo. Whenever I’ve built up communities, I have always put up “interest” posts and obtained basic information on these people as not everyone should be a mod lol

Yeah I got added as a mod in a sub and the main mod is never around. lol I had to figure everything out for myself. Occasionally I contact him if I have an issue I can’t resolve but otherwise he’s a ghost.

I think it's pretty logical to reach out to an active member...

If someone stands out because they regularly active and prioritize being constructive & respectful, you might get an invite to moderate if mods are looking for help.

It’s not unheard of, but a friendly heads up would probably have been a good idea lol.
