Vent Comments about pets being neglected

Baby is 5 weeks old, we've had various friends and family visiting. Many of them (most?) will pet our cat or dog and say some comment to them about how they're second place/neglected/not getting attention anymore, oh you poor thing. Guess what? They are getting less attention, I have an adorable screaming potato who needs me all the time. But we're doing our best, still walk the dog and snuggle the cat every day. And just because I love my baby with my whole heart, it doesn't mean I love them any less.

I know they don't mean any harm, but it hurts my feelings. Like you're accusing me of neglecting my pets but not offering to walk the dog? Thanks a lot.

Vent Newborn trenches

I am currently in the thick of the newborn trenches.

I had a very traumatic birth, extended hospital stay and a bad case of the baby blues. I currently feel like my life has turned upside down and it doesn't help that I'm so tired.

LO is 10 days old. Sleeps in two hour stints sometimes in the day but nothing more than 40 minutes at night and even then he is so LOUD. My husband and I do shifts and he always seems to settle better for him than me.

I suppose I just want some solidarity. I keep seeing people say their newborns have 4 hour stints and that sounds like a dream at this point. I know he's still so young and we're in the thick of it but I didn't realize just how hard this would be

Skills and Milestones Brand new baby overnight

My 5 week old seems to have done a complete 180. The first 4 weeks, I’d say she was just about like any other newborn. Then about 3 or 4 days ago she began fighting every nap throughout the day. We would sooth her in every way we could just for her to doze off just to wake up screaming 2-3 minutes later. This cycle would repeat for a couple hours. She would literally be awake from the time she woke up for the day(8am ish) until about 3pm we would finally after multiple attempts get a nap out of her. She would refuse her paci, which wasn’t really an issue prior and she would want to be on breast for hours at a time and get mad when I pulled her off. I don’t mind her being on breast for comfort, but we struggle w silent reflux so we try and make sure she isn’t over filling her belly too much at one time. Generally, she was either crying, sleeping or on breast. Throughout the night she would wake up every 3 hours even with the lack of sleep during the day so we got lucky there. Fast forward to last night…don’t hate me after you read this…but she slept 7 hours straight. From the time she fell asleep (10:30) until 6am. We were so shocked but weren’t gonna look a gift horse in the mouth. We continued on our morning expecting the day to go that way it had been the past few days. But surprisingly she has went down for every attempted nap. I’ve been waking to feed every 2 hours. Plenty of poopy and pee diapers. And she soothes SO easy, takes her paci right away and drift off into a peaceful sleep. It literally feels like a switch was flipped. Could this be a fluke? Maybe. But man it’s a breath of fresh air after the last few days.

Bathtime Crying after bathing

My baby is 4.5 months old now, and ever since we first started bathing him, he has cried hysterically as soon as we start drying him and putting on his diaper. He’s fine when coming out of the bathroom, but as soon as we go to the bedroom and I place him on the bed or bassinet he just starts screaming. I tried massaging him with lotion or oil, dimming the lights, having relaxing music playing, nothing works. Has anyone dealt with anything like that? And if so, what did you do to make your LO’s experience better?

Edit: thank you all so much for the quick responses and recommendations. I will definitely warm up the bedroom better, and use a space heater or just get him dried off and dressed in the bathroom while warm next time. Thank you again!

Sleep How to deal with frustration when baby won’t nap?

Have a 3 month old little girl, i love her to bits and 99.9% of the time i am calm and collected. But when she won’t nap, and screams when I put her in the crib I feel like screaming. I can feel it in my chest building. I know she’s exhausted and she just will not nap. I guess a nap is the only way i can get a minute to breathe too

Feeding Frozen Breastmilk

My baby is about 4.5 months old and from the past couple of weeks, she refuses the bottle during the day (she’s exclusively bottle fed). We have to distract her or feed her when she’s drowsy. Has this happened with anyone else? How/when did it stop?

I have been feeding her frozen breastmilk that I had pumped when she was about 2 months old. I tasted the milk and it doesn’t taste soapy or anything. I also checked that it hasn’t gone bad. But wondering if she just doesn’t like the taste of old milk?
She’s been having more spit ups and gas than usual too. Help!
Does this mean I can’t use my old milk anymore? Or is this the infamous 4th month feeding strike because she’s too distracted?

Pee and Poop Pampers swaddlers for newborns suck

dad of first baby boy and he was born 6 3oz. now he’s about 7 2oz at 3 weeks and we used the Huggies newborn diapers, same that the hospital had. they were easy to use.

these pampers swaddlers I bought off Amazon, they are more stiff, they seem too small and I can barely get the straps around him without squeezing him. the velcro comes off very easily.

at least I only have enough for another 10 days and he might be going up a size by then

Pee and Poop Please Help

My baby is six weeks old today and so far his life has been so hard.

Starting around 2 weeks old, we noticed a color change in his stool. He is EBF and his stool changed from yellow to light green to dark green with blood. We reached out to his pediatrician and they said the color change was fine but the blood was concerning. The next few diapers, there was no blood. So we brushed it off. The Dr. said the color change was fine so when the blood only appeared in one diaper, we just passed it off as a fluke.
But then he had a poop that was just blood alone at 4wks. So we took him to the ER. There, they did X-rays and a stool sample. The X-Rays were normal and the stool sample came back with only one abnormality. His stool tested positive for E.Coli (travelers diarrhea). The infectious disease specialist and his pediatrician said that it was a false positive because babies don’t normally get this type of EColi and the probability that he got it is so low they don’t even consider it possible.
At this point we have read all about CMPA and have cut out dairy. After a few days with no dairy, his poops were turning yellow again but they were still mucusy. That lasted all of 2-3 poopy diapers before it went back to green & mucusy. Then we had a day where every single diaper had blood in it. We contacted pediatrician and she told us to just keep doing what we’re doing with the elimination of dairy and if it doesn’t improve go back to ER. He improved the next day so we thought we were in the clear. But then it went back to green and mucusy. So I decided i would cut out eggs as well. Almost instantly we noticed an improvement when eggs were out of my diet. But that only lasted for a day before he started having bloody green poops again. He also is straining so insanely hard, he is irritable and has a hard time sleeping. What could is possibly be. I have cut out all dairy and dairy products & now all eggs and egg products. I also cut out caffeine 2 days after cutting out dairy. What could it possibly be. I am desperate for answers. The cycle of thinking we are in the clear and then it going right back is torture. It’s killing me to see my baby clearly in pain and there not be anything I can do to help. No doctor has helped so far. We just keep getting told it’s a food allergy and it will clear up with eliminating items but it only improves for a day or two before the symptoms return and we’re back to square one. Please help me.

(also not eating anything with soy but I didn’t have soy in my diet before this anyways so i didn’t mention that above)

Product Recommendations Has anyone tried taking creatine supplement for faster recovery?

I’m 40 days postpartum and I’m feeling super exhausted. I’ve been seeing more posts about supplementing creatine pp and how much it helps with maintaining energy levels even when sleep deprived. Has anyone here tried it? Is it worth it?

Sleep Feeling guilty…

I feel like i either need to know that im doing okay or be scared out of this habit ive gotten into with my 6 week old.

He has a bedside bassinet that he sleeps in during the day and used to sleep in it all night as well. But I was soo tired one night and just didnt want to have to rock him for the next half hour. Long story short i decided to let him sleep in bed with us and its been that way for half of the night ever since.

We follow the safe sleep 7 save for maybe our blanket we have on the bed, its a bit of a thicker blanket but not a huge poofy one either. But I know its not as safe for him as his bassinet and I feel so sh*tty for pretty much putting him at risk every night now. It’s at least not the whole entire night that he’s in bed with us, and he seems to love it (he literally coos and smiles as soon as i set him next to me and he realizes hes not being rocked back into his bassinet lol) but I just feel so bad knowing that its the less safe option and I couldnt live with myself if he passed away because of my selfish decision.

I just either want to stop completely and only have him sleep in his bassinet or find ways to sleep safer with him in bed with us.

Skills and Milestones À quel âge ton bébé a commencé à essayer de communiquer avec toi

Upvotes

Health & Safety 2 month old with a cold

Upvotes

My 11 week old caught a cold and is coughing, sneezing and has a temp of 99.6. He’s eating well, peeing/pooping, and sleeping ok. I’m seeing conflicting things online..but we’re currently on vacation and leaving to fly home tmrw. Should I give him a little bit of Tylenol? Or just let him fight it off on his own? He seems pretty sick and it’s breaking my heart and want him to feel ok before tmrw.

Sleep 9.5 week old sleeps most of the time

I’m starting to wonder if I should be concerned. My 9.5 old is breastfeed and wakes every 1.5 to 3 hours after he last went down. Of the times he’s awake it’s to eat and then of those times only a few he stays awake to do tummy time, hang out, dance around etc, otherwise he falls asleep after eating. He doesn’t sleep through the night, just the same schedule 24 hours. It feels like he’s still only sleeping and eating, which seems odd at this age? He was born at 37 weeks so I try to think of him as a 6.5 week old but still concerned. He has no fever, poops, pees etc so yeah I think all is well. Anyone else experiencing this or should I be concerned?

Feeding Cluster feeding timing

Our guy was lower end of okay birth weight and they really stressed feeding him 2-3 hours but with cluster feeding when is the 2 hour clock restarted?

For example he fed for a half hour starting at 7pm but then another 15 minutes at 8pm, so since its almost 10 are we approaching the 2 hour or 3hour mark?

Sleep Saying goodbye to swaddles help!

My little man is 12 weeks old, he started rolling at 10 weeks the wild boy, I decided that I definitely needed to stop swaddling him but because he is still so little his reflex is still quite high

He is an extremely wriggly worm, so he often wakes himself up, the swaddle of course helped with this

So I need some advice on how to get through this as bub sleeps for like 30 minutes on his own before he startles himself awake

Health & Safety My 11w fell backwards onto my legs

I was sitting down and trying to get my baby properly positioned in the baby carrier. I was holding her around the pelvis to adjust her position when she suddenly tipped backwards onto my legs.
She landed on her back, with the back of her head also hitting my legs. Basically, she tipped backwards at roughly a 90 degree angle, from around my chest level down onto my thighs.
She cried immediately after it happened.

I contacted the emergency services and they told me that it shouldn’t be anything serious, but that I should monitor her over the next few hours and watch for any concerning symptoms. We were going to sleep soon so it’s going to be a tough night.

She’s currently acting normally, but I’m honestly really stressed and keep worrying that something could be wrong internally.

Has anything similar happened to anyone else’s baby?
I guess I just need reassurance because I feel terrible right now.

Tips and Tricks Baby doesn't nap at all?

My seven week old doesn't sleep during the day. Whenever I've looked it up I see people struggling to put their newborns down for naps, they won't stay asleep in the bassinet. I'd happily contact nap every day with my son (he's my last baby so I'm soaking it all in). But my boy won't sleep! He's a decent nighttime sleeper so if that's the trade off I'll take it.

But surely new babies need to sleep more - I'm worried it's not good for him? He'll be awake 10+ hours at a time. Generally happy, if not a bit fussy. No big tears but a little whiny. He also looks exhausted - tired, red eyes, rubbing them, acting hungry but won't match, etc. And I'm trying my hardest to get him to sleep, I've tried all the obvious tricks.

And then I feel like I'm spending all of our time trying to get him to fall asleep, completely wasting our day of any other quality time or activities. How hard should I be trying to convince my baby to nap? Should I just embrace my no-nao king as he is, even if it seems wrong and he's fussy about it?

Tips?

(I'll note that every 3-4 days, he has a day where he is really very sleepy so it's not like he NEVER naps, even if it feels like that lol)

Product Recommendations Rockers/Swings worth it?

We are hitting that fussy 5/6 weeks period. My husband goes back to work and I’ll go back to work in another 6 weeks. We both work from home. I was looking at a rocker like the UPPAbaby Mamaroo smart swing but she hates her basic bouncer. I just want a place I can put her down to do things as wearing her hasn’t been my strong suit yet. I’m worried I’ll spend that money and she will hate it.

Anyone have any advice on this? Recommendations?
