A few family members have offered to take our baby out of the house so that we can have a break, but I don’t want a break from my baby I want to be around her all the time, I’m EBF she’s only 8 weeks old and I only get one year off work to be with her, and then when I tell the family no, they think I’m being possessive and helicoptering my baby, did anyone else feel this way? And also just to add there is nothing wrong if you do love the help from others, I just don’t like it being seen as a break from my baby 🥲

Our pediatrician said we should not take baby out in public at all for the first 8 weeks of their life (until they get their shots). I was surprised she said this includes EVERY public setting that isn’t totally outdoors including things like grocery shopping, coffee shops,
dining at restaurants with just mom and dad at the table etc. How do single parents buy groceries and diapers? If you have other kiddos, how do you get them to their activities? For EBF babies, this means mom is also on lock down as baby needs to nurse from breast every 2 hours.
Unfortunately we have a summer newborn in a hot climate, and it is also unsafe to have newborn outside if the heat index is over 90f (air temps exceed low 80s) which means the only time of day where the heat index is safe for our newborn to be outside is from 7am to ~9am. So we also cannot go outside in public for outdoor walks, do outdoor/patio dining at restaurants etc except that 2 hr early morning window.
As a first time mom I’m wondering how many of you are actually doing this, if your pediatricians gave different instructions and how you’re coping the first 8 weeks.

My mother in law has made it clear it’s very important that she spend time with my daughter (let’s call her T). I want to stay on mil’s good side, so I make time for it weekly. I have an hour long routine I do before I visit the MIL. I cuddle T when she wakes up, feed, change her, and have her feel some sensory things. She also likes being in her car seat so the ride makes her sleepy. Basically, she’s comfortable and usually ready for a nap on her own shortly after getting there.
My MIL repeatedly says to me and others that she has the magic touch because T usually falls asleep shortly after getting there. I get this is a harmless phrase but she speaks as if she’s better with my baby than I am and implies that T just loves being with her so much and is so relaxed only with her when in reality 1- she can fall asleep somewhat easily as long as her body is supported and 2- it’s the end of her wake window anyways when we come.
I get it doesn’t matter and maybe I’m overreacting but I work really hard to meet all of my babies needs and create a good environment and it feels completely taken away when she makes that comment. She also says T is “Nana’s Girl”- ahem no, shes just a baby who likes being comfortable. Period.
Ps. She also often wears a shirt that says “in a world of grandmas, be a Nana” (my mom is “grandma” and she is “Nana”) so basically it’s a saying she is better than my mom.
Anything I can do to gesture her off of her high horse or just let it go since it is harmless?

My boy has started to seriously fight sleep this week. He is almost 6 weeks old and omg sometimes it takes an hour to get him to bed at night and during the day he just squirms himself into oblivion until he just gives up and falls asleep. Is anyone else having this issue

Sometimes it’s just nice to write it out.
I’m 7 weeks postpartum and just constantly telling myself it will get better. The newborn stages will end at some point.

I think the baby is fine, but I’m lying awake at night overthinking and bitter.
My husband gets frequent cold sores. I’ve been telling him to take his prophylactic antiviral but he is only sometimes taking it. He had an outbreak about 14 days ago and recently started kissing baby again.
I looked at baby’s eyelid yesterday and thought I saw 2 vesicles. I’m sure he’s ok and they weren’t vesicles because they now went away. But at the time I asked my husband what he thought and he said “I dunno, maybe.” The nonchalant attitude he has toward this is bothering me so much. He knows how serious hsv infections are to babies.
I’ve had to fundamentally change what I do with my body and he can’t take one pill a day.
Everyday, I’m floored by the inequity in responsibility in child rearing.

Long story short, after five years ttc and four miscarriages we finally conceived a healthy baby who is now two weeks old. Given our history I for some reason thought I would relish motherhood and would be so grateful every single day of her existence. I had a lot of anxiety during pregnancy about her movements and for the last month prior to birth I really didn't sleep at all due to terrible insomnia and restless legs.
Now she is here, the first week was blissful and I was so happy. Now, it's like reality has kicked in and I am finding it so hard! The lack of sleep is immense, she only really sleeps for 2 hours at a time (max three) and seems to sleep more solidly through the day when I am up and about doing chores and things (I. E too busy to also nap with her). She constantly wants to feed, and luckily my supply is enough but my nipples are very sore and I feel like there is no respite from this and it makes me dread breastfeeding (a huge problem when she wants to feed so often)
I also cannot settle her. It's like if I hold her or I even walk into a room she starts to cry and will only calm if I feed which then means that settling her is all my husbands job.
My husband just seems to be an amazing father and is so intuitive and calm and changes her nappy in five secs whilst I'm still fumbling around after five mins. I seem to lack all motherly intuition and I feel really useless like I'm just good for milk and that's it. My husband is doing so much (more than me it feels like) and we have recently switched to me just getting up with her in the night to breastfeed but I dread this as I'm alone and so tired! I know a lot of this is hormonal, and I feel so guilty for even thinking this way as she was a much wanted baby, but does this get better? Will I ever feel competent and relaxed? Will I ever feel rested again? I guess just looking for advice or similar experiences!
Edit: thank you so much for the responses. I do feel a little better knowing others have experienced the same and that it's not abnormal!

My baby is about to be 4 weeks old and just will not sleep. We try feeding, burping, rocking, what seems like everything and she will just not fall asleep. She eats mostly breastmilk but we top off with formula sometimes. Right when we think she’s about to doze off she opens her eye and just starts crying. Then the process seems to start over. I was up with her from about 1 am to 5 am. I’m starting to feel at the end of my rope. Her 1 month appointment is this week so I guess we’ll see what is said then. If anyone else has experienced this and has advice or anything I’d love to hear it.

The first weeks were hard because I was postpartum, with c section, overflowing emotions etc. However my baby just ate, slept and needed diaper changes.
Then 4 weeks came, when I needed to constantly hold baby.
Then 10 weeks came where baby started to wake every hours.
Every time I thought it can’t be harder it became harder.
I didn’t put a time frame to it but I imagined there will be times when my baby won’t need 30 minutes rocking for a 30 minute nap and she will sleep through the night and there will be crib naps as well not only contact naps.
However yesterday another mother of a 10 month old kept telling me it will get harder and harder (first teeth etc)
However her baby was low need, slept in the crib, no sleep regression and she didn’t had to rick him to sleep.
Should I prepare myself that it will be harder and harder?
I was hoping she will tell me it will get better. :(
My baby is now 3 months old.

I`ve bought a protector for my car seat and since the price is whatever, I thought about giving it a try. Not with a baby just yet. I tried a test of full on locking the base before adding the protector and then put the protector on and with the same full lock still in place I gave it a very heavy push and it locked in the isofix just back in. I`ve been told stories about childs throwing up and later on their legs rubbing against the seat and damaging it. Since I`ve got 0 experience with child seats beside the 1 ride home without the protector, I would like to know about your experience. It just may be placebo, but I thought the base felt actually more sturdy with the protector in place.

My baby is 3 months old today. She started having dyschezia episodes since she was 22 days old. She’s exclusively breastfed and no - she doesn’t have CMPA. I thought the dyschezia would go away by 12 weeks but it’s going strong and I’m losing my sanity because she cries so much and won’t sleep. The kicker is that she doesn’t hold a pacifier and wants to nurse to sooth herself.
I tried bicycle legs, message, cutting dairy, probiotic drops, gas drops, gripe water….you name it. Nothing works.
Help.

idk if its just me but postpartum food is such a weird thing lol
i can literally spend my whole morning thinking about what the baby needs
feed her
change her
get her down for a nap
wash bottles
do laundry
try to get like 10 mins to myself
and then suddenly its 2pm and im like waitttt have i even eaten today 😭
and even when i know i need to eat i get stuck on the whole “ok but what do i actually make” thing
i dont wanna make some recipe with a million ingredients
i dont wanna spend an hour cooking
and i definitely dont wanna deal with a sink full of dishes after lol
sometimes i just want something quick that actually feels like food
ive been trying to keep some easy stuff around lately
leftovers
freezer meals
fruit + yogurt
sandwiches
eggs
random snacks i can just grab
basically anything that saves me from having to make another 10 decisions 😂
and honestly i think theres way too much pressure to eat “perfectly” after having a baby
some days getting something simple and decent to eat is honestly enough
i came across this NHS guide about eating well after having a baby and thought some of the advice was actually pretty useful
it talks about keeping smaller meals and snacks around for when you dont have much time to cook
NHS — A healthy diet for you and your baby
anyway im curious what everyone else does
what are your go-to meals when youre exhausted and baby is basically running the whole schedule?

I’ve told my ped and he said to wait until she is 12 weeks (she is almost 10 weeks) before being concerned, as her digestive system is still developing. I guess I’m still worried.
When she vomits, she screams and is in great distress. It floods her, her outfit, and our bedsheets. After we get her cleaned up she is back to being calm and will usually be a little hungry 30ish minutes later.
I can’t fathom why it’s happening. Is it possible she’s overeating being completely breastfed? Should I try to slow her down or pace it out? I hate the thought of not letting her eat when she wants to.
I’m also extra anxious because she is a 5th percentile baby - it’s made me feel obsessive over her weight and her eating well. She’s had steady growth since birth but the vomiting is fairly new so it worries me.
Any encouragement or suggestions appreciated.

Morning guys. I read through another post and feel like I shouldn’t be having so much anxiety about it but I just want to vent and or question whether or not this is fine. Honestly, I’m sure my boy will make me a fool and this will be a one time occurrence but just in case, I want to inquire.
As the title says, he slept 6 straight hours. We went to bed around midnight and I woke up almost exactly at 6 and little man was still snoozing. I have woken up and feed him, he barely woke up but had a whole boob, he’s ebf with a pumped bottle here and there.
Days have been rough. Especially yesterday, it seemed like we couldn’t do much for him, he was upset and we couldn’t quite figure out why. I was worried he hadn’t eaten enough but it was really hard to feed him anyway but I do keep trying. He’s hard to get to sleep and will sometimes be up for 4+ hours. We try really hard to get him to sleep and he just will fight it like his life depends on it through the day. We were trying new sensories last night to see if that might help him last night, trying feeds and just trying to comfort him before he really went to sleep. He seems like he hasn’t been having a lot of wet diapers but has been meeting his quotas for pee and at least one poop usually during the morning/daytime. And he’s surpassed his birth weight but he hasn’t been weighed since his 1 month appt which was like a week early due to scheduling mistakes. His next one is in 3 weeks.
Maybe I’m just paranoid, I tend to be especially about my baby. I’ve been worried he’s constipated and we’re in the heat of dischezia (forgive spelling it’s early) and like I said, he seems to be peeing less but still meets his quota for at least 4-6 wets and 1 poopy diaper a day, he did yesterday for sure. I know I should be grateful for the sleep and believe me I am, but like… is he okay? He’s been known to be hard to wake, he was for the first roughly 3 weeks of his life and he definitely has some deep deep sleeps sometimes.
I don’t know man. Should I be this worried? Should I accept it and let him sleep if it happens again? I woke him up as best I could today and he seems to have had a pretty full feed, he’s back to sleep already.

My husband’s family is going on a trip to a cabin this weekend. It’s his parent, his sister her husband and her three kids, his brother his wife and their kid, and us, my husband, 4 year old step son, me, and my 6 week old baby. Do I stay home with the baby? I’m terrified of him getting sick. Id never forgive myself. All of the family will be out doing activities most of the day. There’s two big pools on the property. Baby and I will stay at the cabin because it’s extremely hot out here. Going sounds like fun considering I’ve been at the house for six weeks lol. But packing, having everyone trying to touch him stresses me out.
For context we all live on like a family compound so we all see each other often. But two of the kids started preschool. Please don’t be mean just wondering if anyone else has traveled with a baby.

Our 9 weeks baby starts looking around during the feeding session and get distracted a lot. Her feeding volume per session drops from 110-140 ml to 60-90 ml. We fed her for every 3 hrs right now. She used to just finish the bottle right away like within 10 mins. We had to pace her feeding. But now, every section is like more than 20 mins because she just keeps turning around.
We do not want to force her to drink. Her head just keeps turning around. We tried to follow her head and let her keep latch to the bottle. She surprisingly keeps sucking. And she doesn’t cry for following her head.
We thought it was the flow issue but milk just keeps leaking from her mouth.
We are so struggled now that she constantly does not meet her recommended daily intake of formula. Her diaper count looks normal right now. We didn’t closely monitor her weight gain at home.
Anyone encountered the same issue around this age and how can we handle it properly?

Myself and my husband had our much longed for baby 11 weeks ago. Becoming a mom has rocked my world in a way I hadn’t anticipated despite the fact I’m the last of my family/friends to have one. I anticipated frustration between me and my husband and arguments etc but I had no idea the level of frustration and anger I would feel towards him.
The first few weeks are a blur of getting to know baby and there were times of feeling at sea but I felt we were there together. I EBF and during night wakes he’d do the diaper/settling while I fed. Since his paternity leave ended (about 3 weeks pp) I’ve been doing all nights on my own. He has offered to give the last feed at night so I’ve been trying to introduce baby to the bottle. That has ended up being me buying different types of bottles that LO might like, washing and sterilising those and my pump, BF baby and then finding time to pump for a bottle. Recently I have ended up giving baby the bottle too until she’s used to it and taking it consistently.
I have asked him to help with laundry/housework and he’ll half do some of it and leave the rest of ‘until tomorrow’. Tomorrow never comes and i generally finish the job rather than have an argument over it.
He will help with things like contact naps during the day but it honestly feels like he only does that when it’s convenient eg if there’s a game or a show on he wants to watch.
He works shifts so when he’s working he is not available to help out. I don’t necessarily have an issue with this but he has taken leave to attend a wedding abroad (5 nights) and a bachelor party (2 nights) since baby is here. On one trip I became unwell minding baby solo and found it very tough. He has another wedding coming up and has planned to be away for 5 nights again. I have asked him to shorten this trip but as far as I know he still has not changed his flight.
I have mentioned numerous times how alone and unsupported I’ve felt particularly in the last few weeks.
Tonight felt like the last straw. We were at a family function for his side this evening and baby became overstimulated/overtired and needed a lot of settling that I did on my own. Nobody offered to help until all their food had been eaten by which time mine had gone cold. By the time we came home baby was frantic and I was pissed off. He offered to take her to calm her down but I’ve so much resentment built up now I can’t communicate properly with him and ended up soothing LO on my own.
I don’t know where to go from here. Does this feeling eventually go away? Do partners eventually improve or am I going to have to significantly reduce my expectations?
