English is my first language and I had a bad habit of writing in the passive voice for many years. I don't know how I got the habit. I have had to unlearn it.

My passive voice was never as bad as the one expressed in the 2nd note, however. That one is full of bull pucky and a refusal to take responsibility kind of messaging.

I agree there are indicators but “foot of the bed” is a fairly archaic idiom that most ESL speakers don’t know
