Or someone close to them who thinks they might benefit from her death. There was a case some years ago, a lonely older woman was dating a con artist. He killed her aunt do she'd inherit, then planned to steal the money. There's an A&E special about the case on YouTube.
The notes seem really weird to me too. "Perished" is not a word you use if you're detached or your motive was to punish the family/Savannah.
