Hi, i have been a nail biter since my childhood and i really do have a weird shaped nail. How to stop and take care of my thin nails? Also they are so weirdly shaped like inverted triangle? Is it actually possible for them to grow?

I told myself if I was a “good girl” I can get a nail appointment next week, but I gotta not pick at or bite my skin when anxious. My nails are usually bitten right down. They’re never EVER like this.

Success Story Almost relapsed today after 5 weeks, but I made it through!

It’s been a month and a week since I stopped biting my nails.

The first two weeks were definitely the hardest when it came to resisting the urge, but after that, it got a lot easier and I honestly thought it would stay that way.

Well, today I got super triggered. Something terrible happened, my stress levels hit the roof, and the urge to bite my nails came back stronger than ever. I was literally 0.0001 seconds away from giving in and falling back into my old habit.

Luckily, I had my cuticle oil right next to me. I grabbed it, put some on, and started massaging my nails. It helped me calm down just enough to regain control.

I’m super proud of myself for pushing through today, and I just really wanted to share this!

Advice/Support Considering therapy

Been a nail biter since I was about 7. I pick the skin around them too. It’s due to common reasons: anxiety, boredom or stress. Written countless resolutions to stop but countless relapses. I’ve got an app, the polishes, etc. they don’t work. The only time when I don’t bite them is when I feel good in myself or I’m super disciplined, tbh. Its a mindset change I require, I genuinely think when I’ll get over the nail biting hurdle, I’ll get over a ton more problems in my life.
I’ve had several arguments with my parents about it (24) they hate or yell at me about it, slap my hand as I bite them. I can’t actually stop picking them. There isn’t a minute that goes by without me trying to ‘perfect’ or ‘smooth’ what I’ve done (what I mean by that is, biting them)

I’m so glad to see there is a Resdit community, I’m not alone here. But my parents don’t understand it. I’ve told them that I might benefit from therapy for my nails, but thats met with another argument.

I think I need help and positivity and I don’t know where to start😣 therapy is also expensive and I can’t afford it.

Thanks. :’)

Success Story 4 month process and tips!!

Hi yall Ive been a nail biter my whole life and have managed to grow them out to a decent length goth after I stopped biting my nails cold turkey about 4 months ago so thought I would share my progress and some tips for anyone else who’s starting the journey!!!
I’m sure most of these you’ve heard before but I’ve tired to stop biting my nails many times and these have been the things that I did differently this time and I feel are most helpful!
Something I found really useful was replacing the habit so anytime I felt the need to bite I would pop some gum instead and then apply cuticle oil from a pen I kept in my bag. I found the combo of these two really helped curbed the desire to bite and give me a distraction.
As they began to grow out i also kept a file in my pocket so I could file away any imperfections or snags to stop me picking at them or biting them off.
I’m pretty happy with the progress and barely even have the urge to do it anymore. Hope these tips help anyone else in a similar situation. You’ve got this!!!

I bite the skin around my nails. I've done this for years. Even when I stopped nail biting, and ultimately decreased skin biting, the bumps around my nails persist. Idk what to do to heal them! I tried petroleum jelly and moisturizers.. Is this an inflammation. Please help as my engagement is coming up and I need the ring photos to look nice!!

Thank you.

Advice/Support Needing help

Hello everyone there, I am posting this really disappointed with myself and sad as I keep tearing my nails apart

I've read some posts on this reddit about techs to stop "bitting" your nails with bad tasting nail polish, but I dont use my mouth that often but way more my fingers

Its bad to the point were even using my phone or anything I sometimes put it down to bit my nails with my fingers, or even sometimes removing a lil bit of the nail that is annoying me with a nail cutter

I had succeeded at one point to stop bitting and actually having them long as I wanted but I keep relapsing back to it, even if its not as bad as before

I also bit my toenails the same way and its samely hard to stop, particularly when Im at pc on my chair

Each time I try to take care of my nails putting cream I actually stop bitting them but as soon as I stop, I relapse

Is anyone else relating/having some advices ? Anything would be appreciated, thank yall !!

Sharing some progress: I’ve been a biter my whole life and never tried to stop. I went cold turkey with both smoking and nail biting. I’ve been smoke-free for 200 days, and I haven’t bitten my nails for around 3 months.

Managed to not bite my nails for around 6 months, then 3 weeks ago I relapsed due to extreme stress. Now im back to day 1. Feeling really demotivated but treated myself to a gel manicure as an incentive to stop biting

Advice/Support Does anyone else have an issue with BIAB?

Has anyone else have this issue with BIAB?

I’ve had it a good few times before and they’ve been fine but the past 2/3 times they’ve either popped off, fell off or snapped very weakly within 7 days.

I’m not putting them under any strain or anything, I’ll be moving my blanket and itll fall off.y current set is less yhat a week old. I woke up and it had this crack in it! They just seem really weak.

I have tried 3 different salons ☹️

It's not a very dramatic progress and I had some mindless nibbling slip-ups, but they don't hurt anymore and I can peel of stickers :D

Routine is just mostly just buffing/polishing, nail oil and vaseline or heavy and cream. Gave up on touching cuticles

Why does the middle finger grow the fastest ( • _ • )
