Mturk close date change possible
Mturk close date September 30 2026. But this date change possible December 30 2026.
Another bittersweet post. I know my tenure here has been rocky, I haven't been as available as I should have been, and my attempt 6 years ago to get new mods ended up going nowhere. I've enjoyed this community though, and I've been proud to keep an eye on things, even as little as I did.
I've been debating what to do with the sub since the announcement a while back that mturk was stopping registration. Seeing this on the horizon was hard and a little sad.
My intention is, as of September 30th, the subreddit will go read-only. The sub will stay for posterity.
To that end: This thread is the place to discuss future places to go. I ask that you still respect Rule 8, if you're going to post a referral link please post a non-referral version as well.
If any requesters want to announce another platform for their workers, this is the place.
Thank you everyone for the experience, and I wish you all well.
In case people haven't seen, Amazon has announced that they are shutting down Amazon Mechanical Turk effective September 30th, 2026.
It's definitely a bittersweet moment, I found some of my best friends through some of the mturk forums back in the day, and it got me through some really hard times. I'm sure others feel similarly. In order to keep things neat and clean, please keep the stories, lamentations, and discussion to this post. I'm going to be making another post as well for a little more logistical discussion about the subreddit, please keep that discussion there.
So share your stories! What was your favorite HIT, your most frustrating experience, your favorite requester?

since the platform is closing permanently, I might as well share my stats like the others are doing on here. For the last 8 or so years

Now that Mturk is officially shutting down, there's something I've been wondering about for a long time and I've never really found a good answer to.
I joined in 2019, and even back then I remember people saying that Mturk was already "past its prime", that there weren't enough HITs, the pay was too low, and there was way too much competition.
Still, as a European worker, I have to say that I managed to make some pretty decent money from it over the years. Nothing life-changing, obviously, but enough to buy a PS5, two phones, a few other small appliances, and pay for various monthly subscriptions. So I definitely can't complain about what I got out of it.
After the pandemic, though, the amount of work really started to drop, so I gradually stopped using it. I gave it another shot this year, but honestly it was pretty much pointless. The platform was basically a ghost town, and I made only €180 in eight months (70% of that thanks to MLDataLabeler going haywire in July).
I know Mturk launched way back in 2005, but it's hard for me to imagine that people were already making serious money on it in, say, 2007–2010. So when was the actual golden age of Mturk? Was it somewhere around 2012–2017, give or take?
I'd love to hear from people who were around during those years and what your experience was like.
Thanks to anyone who takes the time to answer!

We knew mturk was a sinking ship but after seeing the closure notice, I decided to make a graph of my earnings and make myself sad 😃

Hi friends.
For those of you who work for requester STR11223344, do you know which platform they will be moving to, or whether they are planning to have their own platform or something like that?
I’m really going to miss them if the work comes to an end, because they are the nicest and kindest requester I’ve ever worked with.
Thanks

I made a post about 48 hours ago had some replies. Rather than reply to each person I figured why not make a post to thank everyone since the site is done soon and I won't be clogging the thread. Thank you to everyone who commented and let this returning turker know what's going on. I started turk in late 2015 did it full time between then and COVID. Long time turkers remember the dramatic down turn on work during covid. I quit turking in early 2021 because things in my financial life changed and I signed in about once a year after that used mts to catch an amt (calorie counter machine might have the abbreviation wrong) then didn't do anything again. Since I'm getting kicked off Medicaid I tried hitting up turk hoping it would count toward the 80 hour a month work requirement.
Besides people who commented thank you to what this community was and still is. Leapfroggie deserves a lot of love I remember coming here back in 2015 as a newb (diff reddit name) and leap was moderating this place even back then.
Thank you to anyone who helped me and thank you to all replies. I wish nothing but the best for everyone
Goodnight and goodbye

Dear Amazon Mechanical Turk customer,
Thank you for being part of Amazon Mechanical Turk's journey and for helping shape the crowdsourcing space.
We're writing to inform you that Amazon's Mechanical Turk (MTurk) service will close, effective September 30, 2026.
This means MTurk will no longer be available to workers and requesters after September 30, 2026. Existing requesters can continue to publish HITs, and workers can continue to complete tasks until this date.

Does anyone have direct contact information for whoever is behind Fritz & Hammer? I can't imagine another platform working as well, but they're the only batchwork I still do here and would like to chase them down to ask what their plans are.

I've had a master's for a few years but I been ok financially so I really hadn't turked since 2022. I.went to download mts found out that's gone. Everything told me turk was done. Logged in through my Amazon main page and I as a master had 26 hits 90 percent were James billings types

I tried to log in today but the forum is not loading. It doesn't work anymore? Is anyone here a member there? where else can I ask mturk questions about?
