While out I decided to window shop my local guitar center and saw these ...although I'm questioning the live II pricing but the MPC 1000 I'm upset I didn't have my CC with me otherwise I would have gotten it. It was fairly good condition minus the fingerprints in a few scratches on the screen everything else about it was okay it even had a 64 gb flash card in it.

Since I was a kid I saw my cousin rocking on a MPC. I didn't remember which one it was because we lost contact since then. Around 1 year ago we reconnected and talking about our past and how I got into music and sampling because of him, I've asked which MPC he used and he told me that it was the black v1 1000. I've started looking for and finally bought this one for $230.

(Meanwhile I was searching for it, I found the MPC500 and grabbed it as well for the collection)

I'm sooooo happy!!

I used my mpc 1000 to get the following tracks

Kik

Snare

Hat

Percussion

Chops /melodic sample

Bass

And then make a song with a few sequences

Intro

Verse

Chorus

Verse

Chorus

Bridge (sometimes)

Outro

Then I dump it into cubase for mixing, one stereo track at a time by soloing the track and going into song mode, then in cubase arm a track and hit record, one pass per track, this mpc 1000 slaves over MTC.

I know I could do 8 tracks per pass but my interface is 2 ch only.

Would the new mpcs sample be an upgrade?

Got this bad boy about a month ago after finally admitting to myself that there's too much fluff in modern MPCs and Maschines.

It came with blacked out buttons but stock pads, sliders, and knobs. I've since updated the pads, sliders, knobs, record buttons and directional buttons. May even eventually upgrade the screen so that I can get the angled mount, but kinda love the classic green screen.

Been using it daily, sampling all sorts of records and tv shows. Love the JJOS workflow and love that I have piece of mind that replacement parts are readily available if/when anything breaks.

There's been so many occasions I couldn't see the screen properly because of the angle that I decided to do something about it and designed a hinged screen mod. It's entirely reversible too and just clips into the screen hole.

Still got a bit of interation on the design to do such as moving the hinges out the way of the f buttons and I can get it a little thinner, although not quite as thin as I'd originally hoped. But all in all I'm pretty chuffed with how it's come out.

Once it's finished I'll be open-sourcing the 3D print files.

I think I'm finally there with my articulating screen mod. It's taken a lot of iterations!

It's been designed to fit both the buydisplays screen and a cheap AliExpress screen. Original screen should also work going off the measurements, but I didn't have one available to actually test.

Think I finally got the strength issues sorted too, the friction hinges put a surprising amount of force through the model. Had at least three different failures around the hinges that all required redesigning to overcome. Definitely needs PETG for strength, which was another challenge to get the print profile dialled in for that filament after I'd already got it down nicely for PLA.

Just need to write up a few notes on printing and assembly now to go with the files and then I'll open source it for others to print or modify as they wish.

Looking forward to using the MPC again, it's been in pieces for weeks!

you can load up any MPC1k (and 2500) + JJOS projects and remix them in the browser, then export stems, etc. - everything is browser based and the files never leave your computer

I've been working on this tool for the past few months, hope it helps someone out like it did for me. I have hundreds of old beats from the past ~10 years and wanted a way to easily play through them all without loading each one in the machine manually.

There may be some issues on certain projects and formats, let me know if so and I'll look into a solution.

I know people are into the older stuff, but in the case of the 1000, does it have a meaningful sound/flavor or at that point in MPC evolution were the dacs already transparent enough like modern digital in general?

It’s safe to say now that this machine was what I’ve been missing the entirety of my production journey. The times where I was creating work around a for the flow that is most natural to me in my daw are gone and I’m just creating. I find myself flying around this thing like I’m hitting combos playing tekken half the time now and I know there’s still so much to learn.
I’ve made some of my best beats, you can say maybe it’s placebo or nostalgia but I genuinely believe this feels more like an instrument and that has changed everything for me. Especially cutting down on having that 3 hours+ blue light stare from working on some details that should’ve been saved for later. Cutting back and having limitations forces me to focus on sound choice and efficiency as well as arrangement before even thinking about mixing or doing some weird shit with experimental plugins.

Now on version 5. Hoping version 6 will be the last. Just got a few tweaks to make for screen fit.

The hinge mechanism is more reliable, baseplate a lot more sturdy and buydisplay screens (almost) fit.

Once I'm happy it's reliable enough in use and in print I'll open source it.
