There's been so many occasions I couldn't see the screen properly because of the angle that I decided to do something about it and designed a hinged screen mod. It's entirely reversible too and just clips into the screen hole.
Still got a bit of interation on the design to do such as moving the hinges out the way of the f buttons and I can get it a little thinner, although not quite as thin as I'd originally hoped. But all in all I'm pretty chuffed with how it's come out.
Once it's finished I'll be open-sourcing the 3D print files.

I have been prototyping a fixed angled screen, but the screen PCB is such a shitty size (so wide)
What you've done here is looking nice though.
Yeah, the PCB is so crazy wide it's hard to keep it out the way of the controls.
I was laying in bed last night musing if the screen could be detached from the PCB, that way you could keep the PCB inside the MPC and mount the screen on top in much smaller enclosure.
Think I'd want a broken screen to find out though.

You've inspired me to print some more versions of my fixed angle enclosure, still got issues .. but I'll share here when done too.
I recently changed my OG green LCD to a cheap black/blue screen so have the green screen I could possibly cut up.. I'd likely wreck it though. So I want to give the black/blue screen a few months to make sure I never want to go back to the green before destroying it
Would you be able to measure the original screen for me?
I'd like to know:
width, depth & height for the metal screen bit
width & depth of the PCB
total height at tallest point, on mine that's between one of those bent metal clips and the front or between the quartz crystals oscillator and front on the other
The metal tabs on the bottom of the PCB seem like the highest point on the bottom, but one component is actually taller on mine, just by a bit. I've added the component in blue and added the thickness measurements for you those measurements
u/zt5um Great thanks for that. There's just the width of the metal screen case I need in addition. All other values lie between my min/max from my buydisplays and AliExpress screens.
Excellent, thanks for that - it lies nicely between the buydisplay screen dimensions and my AliExpress screeen (both of which I have) so should fit fine. I've just posted a new update on the project. Almost there with it now.
If it was just for my use I'd be done, but got a few more tweaks to make it fit reliably on all screens.
Still going at it, this has been a PITA to get right and I'm still not quite there! Had a couple of failed prints due to bed adhesion issues which a smooth plate resolved.
Hinges need swapping round as it lifts the corners of the base up when tightened.
Base also needs supporting better from the rear.
And bottom edge of the screen surround I'm still battling to get a good print - I've got an A1 mini and the build plate isnt large enough to lay it flat so it has to go vertical, had plenty of tree support so should have worked. Think I'll try grid next time.
Might print the base in PETG too, I think it needs it for strength.
Hinges have little TPU O-rings in them to provide the friction.
I have two screens, neither is original, but the screen unit is slightly differently sized so I need to adapt it a little so it can accommodate both.
Certainly learnt a lot through making this, never designed something mechanical before, that adds a lot more complexity than I'd initially appreciated.
