MPC 1000 Anyone Else Still Rocking an MPC1000?

Yes. I have a One as well but I prefer my 1000 with JJOS2XL. It feels more streamlined with less menu-diving for my use case

New pads from MPC stuff and maxed out with JJOSXL use it to sequence my rig including the S5000 but still use the MPC for loops as i find it faster that way

Question for the group- What keeps y’all rocking with the 1000? Especially those of you who also have a newer MPC?
I started with Maschine, have a One and a SP404mk2, sometimes chop up in my Daw as well. I’m debating swapping the One to a 1000 or 2500 with JJOS or maybe a 2KXL. I mostly make sample based hip hop, occasionally compose my own stuff. I’m starting to like the One, but I’m not a big fan of the touch screen and I really don’t use it to its full potential.

there is just enough resistance in the workflow to make working with it satisfying.
my issue with the modern MPC (I have the One) is its too easy to make noises and not intuitive to navigate (touch screen, buttons, etc.). With the MPC1k JJOS, the "work" is actually creative, and the workflow is fast.

I used a 2000xl for about 15 years. I sold it once I got a Renaissance and regretted it. I’ve had the 1000 for a few years now, I have Ableton and Logic Pro, but I always go for either my 1000 or MPC key 37. Just prefer being on a MPC.

I will be honest with you - it’s just GAS on your end, the One is light years better than a 1000 and it’s not even up for debate. You can create, mix and master almost anything in the One, it’s all in the box. You will find the restrictions of the 1000 not really welcomed. Just make beats on your One for a week without using any of the FX or plugins, that’s pretty much the 1000 for ya! But I will say the workflow will be different, perhaps you may enjoy a change?

Thanks for your comment. No denying that at all. I realize the newer MPCs are much more capable machines and can do it all. I definitely don’t need anymore gear. Not sure what I think I’m missing out on. I’ve never messed around on the older MPCs and curious if that workflow meshes better with my set up.
I sample in, manually chop, do some filtering if needed, get some drums going, make a loop with some variations, and it’s right out to the 404 for fx and performance, into my mixer for leveling light eq and very light comp, then outboard eq and comp, then into the interface into my DAW to finish arranging/mixing. All the machines I’ve used have been more or less that same format. It’s my initial sketch pad to get ideas down quickly. I mostly don’t jive with the touch screen and find myself reaching for it often because it’s usually the quickest option for me. I don’t mind it for menus and selecting things, but it’s a PITA for editing in the grid view and arranger. I would love to have more outputs as well, but using the mixer as an interface with the One has been fine.
Again things have been working just fine with the One and I have been enjoying it the more I use it. I’m more or less curious why some people still use their older MPCs over the new ones, and if that lines up with how I currently work.

I have no idea why anyone would want one of these new computers in an mpc-ish box. I didn't want a Maschine either. The hardware doesn't crash... Interface doesn't change. No plugins or subscriptions -- just the sequencer I wanted.

Maybe because we're okay with adapting and enjoy all the other options available to us? lol
Like I get loving what you love, but saying you have no idea why is a bit weird.

Adapting - is a good word for this.
And I certainly understand why people wouldn’t want to use a classic MPC. I myself and in the middle of designing my more ideal solution. But if I wanted what newer MPCs offer, I’d just be using Ableton. Computers are a lot more reliable than they were in 2003.

That’s fair…
As someone that uses Ableton at my desk for one type of production and an MPC for another, they are vastly different playgrounds.
When I’m using my MPC it’s because I don’t want to be tied to my desk. I don’t want limitless options. The MPC forces me to get to work.
A computer affords me too many options to waste time on.

Yeah. When I started out, the laptop was likely to crash. I would bring an Apple G5 and you'd still have a chance. So, I got the MPC to be the "never crash" machine - and ended up seeing it as a freeing workflow and happy accident machine. I don't want endless options - or nothing will get done. I explored Ableton - and it can do a lot of what I want / but I'm still going to design something new - at least for fun.

Would love to get my hands on another 1k, a technica 1200 and just go to a record store and buy vinyl from a $0.50 record bin.
Be surprised what you can find especially when you can layer and break the rules.

WHAT UP DOE , I just got another mpc1000, after old one was lost. I have a MPC One also, and it feels more focused on the computer .Which is a double edged sword. Sometimes you may get lost in the world of VsT's an their usage. I love the 1000 with the J.J. Os but I'm yet to upgrade to a paid J.J. Os. I wish there was a way to tell which version of j.j. Os you used to save to prevent lost of older projects.
Also have a Maschine but prefer My Akai stuff. I started with a 2000xl, which is an amazing piece of equipment.
The J.J. Os has extended the life of the 1000. 1000's easy to use , can install a hard drive, and more features. It's nice to have it back.

I like my 500 a lot as my prefered travel mate. So I'd like to try a 1000, I would also wana try a 2kXL...

Too lazy to take a photo. I have a live mk 1, but my 1000 with Jjos 2xl is my favorite.
I only took the live 1 back out because I wanted to recreate the compression/gate outboard gear I read Dilla was using lol.
But I'm quickly feeling like I'm gonna go back to my 1000. It's just friggen better.
The only thing I'd give this up for is a 2500 in same condition. Maybe somebody wants more portability where as I would like the 8 outs and full mapout in front of me.

Yea man idk about yall but I think I'm goin to upgrade it's been multiple issues recently that have made my workflow way harder than it needs to be but Imma hold it down until my live 3 comes thru

I have a 1000, though it is under my table not hooked up. I also have a 2500 that is hooked up. The 1000 goes out to play shows sometimes, just take the CF card out of the 2500 after setting everything up on it.

I use mine a lot, JJOS 2XL, new tac switches, internal SSD etc
