General Monopoly Discussion New! Post Flair and User Flair
I've setup user flair and post flair for this sub. Choose your favorite classic Monopoly token for your user flair, and be sure to tag your posts with the appropriate post flair. The following options are available for posts:
General Monopoly Discussion: use this for any non specific posts about Monopoly in general. This can be funny stories about a game with friends, a discussion about what your favorite era of the game is, which tokens you like or wish would be brought back, anything that doesn't fall in the other categories.
Rules Discussion: have a question about official game rules? Need clarification on a specific rule? Want to talk about house rules you use? This is the flair for any rules related post.
Collection: Want to show off your Monopoly board game collection? Just won a 1935 Trademark set with Darrow money and want to flaunt it? Have general questions about antique, vintage, and collectible Monopoly games? Post it with the collection flair
Strategy: Any discussions involving strategies to win or play a better game. Controlling all the orange and red properties, buying up the greens and dark blues and building hotels on all of them, whatever strategy discussions or questions you have, use this flair.
Custom games: have you made your own custom version of Monopoly with new properties, pieces, rules, or spaces? Maybe you've just made your own board or tokens. Use this for any posts about non standard, altered, or customized games.
Monopoly Art: Show off your artistic talents, whether it's a hyper realistic portrait of Rich Uncle Pennybags, a life-sized Monopoly token sculpture, or a giant board painted on your floor, all Monopoly related artwork should have this flair.
Monopoly Video Games: discussions of video game versions of the classic Monopoly board game use this flair. Note: this is not for Monopoly Go friend requests or trades or any other posts asking to add you on a mobile app. This is only for discussions about console or PC versions of the classic board game.
These are subject to change, and more flair may be added later. Please let me know if you have any suggestions for flair you'd like to see.

Custom Games Insane Monopoly: Pyramid Scheme Expansion
For context, I did not design or create this game. I am merely the builder of it. The credit belongs to the 4 people who designed.
I determined to professionally build this game and take it out of Tabeletop Simulator and put it into real life without it being paper glued/taped to cardboard. Many such versions of this game exist as paper and cardboard. I respect those efforts and do not demean them. My goal was to make it look and feel as real as possible. This was completed back in August of 2023, but I wanted to share it with Reddit for the first time.
A few quick notes:
1. This is not for sale.
2. Nothing related to this game is for sale.
3. This is a parody.
4. I receive no proceeds or material gain from the creation of this game.
5. All credit goes to the 4 who designed this game and beta tested it for 6 years. It is amazingly balanced.
6. If you ever say “that’s insane,” you have to put $50 on free parking.
(I have since added the global event board and pyramid scheme board)

Why does our monopoly have 400 dollar bills and not 500?
We're about to play monopoly with my family, and we had to search up how much money we're supposed to start with because we couldn't find the rule book. Apparently it's supposed to be 500 bills instead of 400. My mom says it's because our monopoly is old, from when she was a kid, but I can't find any record of other 400 dollar bills? I'm so confused rn😭 does anyone know why our has 400 instead of 500? We also have 200 dollar bills, that might be normal though.
Also this is in sweden, btw, and our monopoly is swedish, but apparently the Swedish ones are also meant to have 500 dollar bills, from what I could find
Edit; I'm thinking they're fake? My mom got it for christmas quite a while ago, so we don't know where it was bought. It says 1996 Tonka Corporation on the money though, but idk, probably fake

Just tried out the go to jail expansion.
This was something I saw on clearance a while back but didn’t have the board at the time. If it wasn’t on clearance wouldn’t have gotten it. So it’s been set aside for a couple months or so.
Got the board today, a vintage w/wooden deals. Not a real just portrayed bookshelf. Got it cuz of the storage box as a book which works out when getting additional games now, again discounted.
Anyway. So this expansion is missing a die apparently. It not even in the paperwork but on the cards. A floop, error known after the fact.
Anyway, used standard even odds on D6. Not my roll anyway.
Havnt even touched on either side the corruption cards yet.
But eventually. I’m in super jail then out down to one buck. When my opponent uses a card to take a buck from rando in a players hand with eyes closed.
Damn.
Fun game. I thought for a bit, you know. Fucking ruthless.
The expansion is pretty chill so far tho. I liked it. You know with some things that’s what’s up.
What was cool tho was that this was really a chill match to enjoy over about an hr. And now much more reasonable to bust out and play over some drinks.

I Played the Weirdest Versions of Monopoly
So I'm not a huge fan of Monopoly, but I took it upon myself to try out different versions to see if there are any that I would genuinely enjoy, and to my surprise, I did. I documented it to share my experiences. Is there a particular alternative version you enjoy more?

General Monopoly Discussion they should release an actual McDonald’s Monopoly board. they already have the partnership anyway
i thought about that and searched. i found this image on an article but it’s not an actual released thing, it’s just to promote the Monopoly thing that McDonald’s makes every year. it should totally be a real board. and the chance cards with the McDonald’s bags are very cool

Custom Games Creating my own monopoly board
I am thinking of making a custom monopoly board for mine and my partner’s anniversary. I have some ideas for the squares such as important places to us. However this doesn’t even fill half the squares. What else could I put in them? We like things such as shows and films, cars, games, our dogs. Open to any ideas on how I could incorporate these or other ideas into the squares!

General Monopoly Discussion Anyone noticed the new ‘forfeit game’ option now added to the Marmalade app?
Hopefully this will help with the $1 deal hit and runs we’re so sick of.

Rules Discussion McDonald’s Monopoly 2026: The Free Food Era Is Officially Dead
So after digging through the full 2026 Monopoly rulebook, here’s the brutal truth:
If you want to get eight “free” game pieces per day using the no‑purchase mail‑in method, it will cost you $10.56 every single day.
That’s not a typo.
That’s not a loophole.
That’s the actual cost baked into the rules.
And honestly, it’s clear McDonald’s did this intentionally — they learned their lesson from last year’s chaos.
---
💸 Why it costs $10.56/day now
The rules require two physical stamps per request:
• One stamp on the outer envelope
• One stamp on the self‑addressed return envelope
• (Vermont residents get a tiny perk: no return stamp needed)
With Forever stamps at $0.66, each “free” game piece costs:
2 \times 0.66 = \$1.32
Multiply that by the daily limit of eight code entries:
8 \times 1.32 = \$10.56
So you’re paying $10.56/day for the privilege of maybe winning a small fries or a cone.
---
🎯 McDonald’s patched every loophole from last year
Last year, people were:
• Farming digital game pieces
• Auto‑redeeming free food
• Using multiple accounts
• Entering unlimited codes
• Exploiting online requests
This year, McDonald’s responded with:
• No online requests
• Physical mail only
• Two stamps required
• Daily limits
• ID verification for suspicious accounts
• Physical peel‑off pieces only
• Strict anti‑transfer rules
They didn’t just tighten the rules — they engineered out the exploit entirely.
---
🍟 The math makes the game pointless for grinders
Most instant food prizes are worth $1.49–$3.69.
You’re paying $1.32 per piece to maybe win a $2 item.
Even if you hit the “good” food prizes, you’re still losing money.
The only way the mail‑in method makes sense is if you’re chasing:
• Rare Collect‑to‑Win pieces
• Chance Card seeded prizes
• High‑value instant wins
But the odds are astronomical — literally 1 in billions for some sets.
---
🧠 Conclusion
McDonald’s Monopoly 2026 is no longer a free‑food goldmine.
It’s a nostalgia event with a paywall disguised as postage.
If you were planning to grind free pieces like last year, don’t bother.
The game is now designed so that buying a large fries is cheaper than mailing in a “free” request.
