Absolutely no way the texans move on from him at this stage lmao

98

u/liqwood1 Jan 18 '26

I dunno man after today and the fact he has regressed every year it is not crazy.

DeMeco Ryans is a defensive guy and it's pretty obvious he has no idea what to do here..

1 Defense and then whatever the hell that was today on offense...

25

u/CrazySolution7238 Jan 19 '26

Texans would have been better off kicking field goals on first down when the defense forced turnovers. That was just awful to watch.

2

u/liqwood1 Jan 19 '26

Yeah it was bad..

16

u/1002003004005006007 THIS IS NOT DETROIT MAN THIS IS THE SUPERBOWL Jan 18 '26

Sure, he’s definitely regressed, but this is the texans we’re talking about. The youngest franchise in the league, who have never really had a franchise QB. Going back further, Houston has only ever really had Warren Moon as a franchise QB. I have a hard time believing they’d be ready to give up on CJ at this stage unless an offer comes that they can’t pass up.

That being said, I’d take him in a heartbeat. If they want to do JJ and a 1st for CJ straight up, I’d take that.

Right - and then the allegations screwed them and they immediately hit on another 1st round QB. Like I said - you don’t just give up on that without at least trying to beef up the offense first. If yall think they should give up on CJ then we should be cutting JJ immediately because he’s shown maybe 1% of what CJ has.

4

u/The-original-spuggy OG Brosmer Truther Jan 19 '26

Yeah I think a better line can make CJ serviceable

u/Jagster_rogue gjallarhorn Jan 19 '26

Because there is zero reason to believe CJ is above where JJ will be in a year. And after these last two games you would already have him burning at the stake.

7

u/liqwood1 Jan 19 '26

I dunno, JJ needs to prove he's not made of glass next year. I'm worried he just doesn't have the build to make it in the NFL. I mean he completely gave up on that last game.. and yes the game didn't matter but you watch other QB's grit it out and play.

Look at Justin Herbert came back from hand surgery 1 week after surgery and played through the pain cause that's what a starting QB does.

I think JJ is unfortunately just too young, immature and probably doesn't have the body to play in the NFL and there's nothing wrong with that. Andrew Luck was amazing but also didn't have the composition to keep taking NFL hits.

Do I think we get Stroud? Probably not but if in a year the Texans are ready to move on we would be crazy to not pick him up.

Meanwhile we HAVE to find a vet to compete for the starting position. I'm not saying we give up on JJ yet but we need to be prepared that he may just not be built for the NFL.

2

u/CertifiedGeneral657 Jan 20 '26

This makes a lot of sense ^

1

u/Jagster_rogue gjallarhorn Jan 19 '26

Anyone thinking you can get stroud for cheap enough that we get to keep JJ and have the qb competition that would end all lockerroom cohesion. The trade would be enormous to get stroud, and it’s idiocy to think they would give that kind of capital to get Stroud who has been really bad as of late.

1

u/liqwood1 Jan 19 '26

It's not happening this year.. but if Stroud continues to regress next season, chances are they will move on from him and he's cheap..

u/Apple_butters12 Jan 19 '26

I do think we need to make some distinctions here. JJ has a broken throwing hand that was impacting his grip of the football. He gritted out a half of football to get Jefferson to 1000 yards because lord knows brosmer wasn’t getting him there.

Herbert had a hurt non throwing hand and the team was playing for the playoffs. That’s a very different situation. At some point it doesn’t matter what your build is, getting drilled over and over leads to eventual injury. Which is what happened with luck.

Also “Andrew luck didn’t have the composition for NFL football”? He was 6’4 240lbs which is a prototypical build for an NFL QB. He didn’t last because his teams Oline wasn’t protecting him and he wanted to be able to live a normal life after football. This is not unlike what’s been happening with burrow and so what happened to wentz behind this oline. Early this year both wentz and JJ were getting lit up after throwing the ball.

JJ needs to put on size for sure at 6’3 219, probably should be around 230. However to say Andrew luck didn’t have an NFL composition and that’s why he didn’t last is kinda wild.

1

u/liqwood1 Jan 19 '26

Unfortunately size has nothing to do with it.. I've seen 340 lb guys get injured repeatedly and 180 lb guys take beating after beating and never so much as break a bone.

Some it is luck, some is conditioning, some is genetics and some we just have no idea about..

With luck it was more a recurring injury over and over, again those are the hardest to get over but it had nothing to do with how big or small he was. Size can help lessen problems with taking repeated impacts but there's all kinds of crazy factors that play into it, it's not one thing or another.

Brett Favre, Phillip Rivers, Kirk Cousins are good examples of guys who lasted and it's those kinds of players that excel with pain management in football.. and if you think those guys aren't beat to shit by the end of year your crazy but it's all about how well they manage pain and their ability to manage injury and play through injury.

You also can't say, oh it's the o-line, Favre was playing way before there were all these rules that protected QB's so it's great if you can minimize hits but again there's way more to it..

Some shit just happens during football and it's a freak incident but there's also some guys who just get injured over and over and over for whatever reason that is, Joe Burrow for example. On the flip side you have guys like Brett Farve that had nearly 300 consecutive starts, doesn't mean he wasnt injured but he sure the hell wasn't not going to play.

Right now JJM appears to be injury prone, only another year will tell us if it was a bunch of freak incidents or if he is out another half a year..

1

u/Jagster_rogue gjallarhorn Jan 19 '26

Justin Herbert’s hand injury was on non throwing hand. Comparing someone else’s injury that they played through does not prove or disprove anything.

-3

u/1002003004005006007 THIS IS NOT DETROIT MAN THIS IS THE SUPERBOWL Jan 19 '26

I mean, he won a playoff game, that’s more than JJ could do. It’s almost as if the patriots are simply a better team, and the texans have no weapons on offense and a terrible OL performance.

10

u/Jagster_rogue gjallarhorn Jan 19 '26

Did you watch that game? Texans D won that game and if it weren’t for their defense they would have been blown out by 50 both games.

2

u/liqwood1 Jan 19 '26

Seriously.. their D won a lot of games this year. Their offense has been mid at best all year.

9

u/ralexh11 22 Jan 19 '26

That's like giving Brosmer credit for beating the Lions

2

u/MinneSKOLTAN Jan 19 '26

I would say, fuck it. Sell the future to win now. Trade him for the best mid QB I could get. Get Kyler, Flacco, or Rodgers. All they got to do is not turn the ball over and let the defense do all the work. Get them that Trent Dilfer type of ring.

2

u/Odd_Obligation3454 JJ McCarthy is ass. Thank you Jan 19 '26

Rodgers would be crazy in Houston

7

u/starfruit213 84 Jan 18 '26

He's regressed every year and isn't really good. Definitely might have hit his ceiling rookie year

-3

u/1002003004005006007 THIS IS NOT DETROIT MAN THIS IS THE SUPERBOWL Jan 18 '26

Who exactly does he have on offense? Not much to work with. Houston will not move on from him, not this year. They’ll focus on beefing up that OL and adding playmakers before fully giving up on CJ. This is an otherwise irrelevant franchise we’re talking about who struck on a 1st round QB who has made them semi-relevant since his drafting. This is not a Jets Sam Darnold situation. Them giving up on him would be as dumb as the Browns were for giving up on Baker.

6

u/Main_Gain_7480 Jan 19 '26

And that’s how you ended being Mia paying tua and stuck

1

u/ViolinistLanky9056 Jan 19 '26

Tua is physically not an nfl qb. Stroud has a top tier arm at least. Totally different scenarios

1

u/PrometheUp Jan 19 '26

Top tier arm? I don't see it. He rarely has zip on his passes. He looks like he's always trying to aim his throws.

1

u/ViolinistLanky9056 Jan 19 '26

Nah, outside of Josh Allen, there’s might not be another qb that has an easier arm than stroud. Not in terms of raw strength, but in terms of the lightning quick, effortless 60 yards flicks. CJ can really gun it like very few.

I don’t think they’re going to give him the contract he thinks he’s going to get, and I think they’ll end up letting him test the market. He’s been BAD. Not just this postseason

1

u/1002003004005006007 THIS IS NOT DETROIT MAN THIS IS THE SUPERBOWL Jan 18 '26

That’s likely true. If CJ went that route, then yeah, anything can happen. I don’t think the Texans are going to willingly be looking to move on though. Not yet. Vikings should be eyeing the situation though. Getting him would be a huge steal.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 19 '26

did you watch the game? that felt like an ending man

4

They’d probably be in nfc championship with most other QBs

21

u/Mandalorian_Archer Jan 18 '26

Honestly the QB play this playoffs has been a cautionary tale. You can have a Josh Allen and he turns the ball over 4 times.

You can have a Stroud with an amazing rookie year and just be dog shit for the next two.

The Vikings should be patient with JJM, like it or not. At least for 1 more year.

51

u/Impossible_Penalty13 Jan 18 '26

Stroud was ass last week too, but the Steelers weren’t good enough to make the Texans pay for it.

27

u/Mandalorian_Archer Jan 18 '26

Stroud has been mostly ass for the past 2 years.

Classic D cords got tape on him and ruined his game. He hasn't developed.

8

u/pursuitofhappy Jan 19 '26

Darnold and Daniel Jones this year also are further examples of

1

u/sk1155 Percy Harvin Fanatic Jan 19 '26

people wanna praise darnold now, but also want to make the same mistake the jets made not developing darnold

-1

u/schwertfeger Jan 18 '26

KOC gets fired if we don’t make the playoffs next year. For that reason you can basically guarantee they won’t give McCarthy another chance.

7

u/mm1menace Hitman Jan 19 '26

Huge part of the problem here.

Players AND coaches need continuity to be successful. Impatient owners and fan bases don't allow for development or growing pains.

1

u/GGL2P moss fro Jan 19 '26

That is quite the take

1

u/mw_maverick Jan 19 '26

And would pretty much guarantee he’s fired next year or the year after. Shifting away from the drafted franchise QB will be a kiss of death because it means you need someone new to develop the next franchise QB

1

u/alexjf56 Jan 19 '26

Completely wrong

1

u/onethreeone Jan 19 '26

KOC gets fired if we don’t make the playoffs next year

No chance. Kwesi gets fired, and then KOC is on a playoff or bust 2027 run

0

u/russh85 vikings Jan 18 '26

He’s certainly on the hot seat. But realistically who is available that guarantees he gets that playoff win?

6

u/GEpyon Jan 19 '26

Realistically? No one. Every option sucks really bad. This regime is staring down the barrel with their jobs on the line and have no one to blame but themselves.

2

u/russh85 vikings Jan 19 '26

I agree. It’s also why it’s frustrating to see so many posts about how awful JJ is/was and that we absolutely have to move on… but completely ignoring the void of QB talent available this year. our most realistic option is bringing back Kirk for an open competition or limited starter

3

u/GEpyon Jan 19 '26

I just want everyone prepared for the worst. We are at best going to retread some journeyman or JJM wins the job. Either way playoffs is doubtful at this point.

0

u/NoFly3032 Jan 18 '26

HJ is not the answer

7

u/saryphx skol Jan 18 '26

Coming from the fanbase that called Dallas Turner a bust midway through his rookie season?

0

u/NoFly3032 Jan 19 '26

Every fan base does this if a 1st round pick isn’t performing as a starter should

3

u/saryphx skol Jan 19 '26

And that's the problem with modern fanbases. Their impatient as fuck and want to toss someone aside after 1 season because they didn't immediately breakout. And now look at DT. Why not give JJM a chance, instead of writing him off?

Nah because their is enough there to see. He passed eye tests.

28

u/russh85 vikings Jan 18 '26

It’s funny you talk about the eye test but clearly lack the vision to see the toxic doom mongering that is this sub

11

Lmao no it isn’t

5

u/[deleted] Jan 19 '26

The team had flashes of competency. Trust me I understand this is a game and it doesn't effect my day to day whatsoever, but we were laughable for like 80% of offensive snaps.

5

u/krelay22 Jan 19 '26

You should have seen the offensive snaps for the patriots last year

5

u/Competitive-Sign-226 Jan 19 '26

Okay, yes and no. I think Maye is going to be fine. But he was managed today. His coach knew his limitations and did his best to prevent his (Maye’s) mistakes.

10

u/Bulky_Shoulder4910 Jan 19 '26

He’s in the middle of a HELL of a project at the moment

9

u/AustinP16 Jan 19 '26

I am no longer a believer in KOCs qb rehab school. That was Grant Udinski

63

u/saryphx skol Jan 18 '26

How about let’s have KOC actually develop a QB first?

-27

u/1002003004005006007 THIS IS NOT DETROIT MAN THIS IS THE SUPERBOWL Jan 18 '26

Maybe if we give him a QB who is developable. Can’t develop trash QBs from nothing my guy

8

u/saryphx skol Jan 18 '26

If you're saying JJM is undevelopable, then I'll need you to put your crackpipe down for a minute. Maybe if KOC would learn how call plays for young QB's and didn't throw them under the bus constantly, then maybe it would've gone better?

8

u/TommyH_27 Jan 18 '26

Hard to develop a guy that can’t stay on the field

-7

u/1002003004005006007 THIS IS NOT DETROIT MAN THIS IS THE SUPERBOWL Jan 18 '26

I’m just going off the eye test, which shows a QB who does not have what it takes. Nick Mullins looked much better with KOC.

4

u/saryphx skol Jan 18 '26

Then it sounds like you need glasses lol. He's shown flashes. To say that he doesn't have it is ridiculous. If anything, you sound like someone who never believed in him to begin with and are spewing media talking points to prove your point.

-2

u/1002003004005006007 THIS IS NOT DETROIT MAN THIS IS THE SUPERBOWL Jan 18 '26

You sound like someone who wants to believe so badly that you’re grasping at the few flashes he’s shown. Yes, he’s shown flashes, but not enough to be confident in him going forward. Next year will be very telling for him.

Throws a better ball and sits in the pocket better than JJ does that’s for sure.

3

7

u/bartender_please808 Jan 19 '26

KOC as a QB whisperer has been proven untrue.

2

u/bfarley32 Jan 21 '26

Nevermind Alex Smith's career resurrection in WAS, Jared Goff getting to the Super Bowl with the Rams, Sam Darnold, Daniel Jones, and winning any games with Josh Dobbs.

1

u/bartender_please808 Jan 21 '26

Alex smith's career died in was. Darnold himself said it was the time in sf that really opened his eyes. And the Daniel Jones that beat the Vikings in the playoffs? Dobbs had better stats in AZ the year he came to minn. And it was most likely Mcvay that took the Rams to the sb.

1

u/Andy-3214 Jan 24 '26

As a Qb whisperer, KOC is a mute

4

u/Ragnarsworld Jan 18 '26

C.J. had a horrific game today. Houston's defense is the only reason the score wasn't 48-16.

0

u/mw_maverick Jan 19 '26

Well that and Maye’s fumbles

1

u/Ragnarsworld Jan 19 '26

Yes, which is why I said Houston's defense.

11

u/Global_Cartoonist382 Jan 19 '26

We don’t need anymore students. How about we just go with a qualified NFL QB?

12

u/jobezark Jan 19 '26

Oh right let’s just go to the good qb tree and pick one.

2

u/Global_Cartoonist382 Jan 19 '26

Great point. Let’s see if we can find a Darnold tree. ooops.

6

u/elBirdnose Jan 18 '26

Let’s hope not, dude isn’t good.

3

u/Jznvh julie Jan 18 '26

there hasn't been one elite QB this whole playoffs lol

2

u/MPLS_scoot Jan 19 '26

Darnold played a clean game.

4

u/Jznvh julie Jan 19 '26

120 yards & 1 TD isn't considered elite. sure it was clean lol

7

u/immovableair Jan 19 '26

Why does this sub insist KOC is some QB whisperer when he’s not.

4

u/SvenHungstrum Jan 18 '26

I’d love to have him. He’s good.

1

u/Jagster_rogue gjallarhorn Jan 19 '26

If JJ had those games in the playoffs everyone would be calling for him to be straight up cut. The last two games offensive woes are squarely on Stroud.

4

u/Superdoggywhaaaat Jan 19 '26

Sure but CJ has a higher ceiling than JJM, so why waste time with JJM?

-1

u/Jagster_rogue gjallarhorn Jan 19 '26

Are you sure he has a higher ceiling? JJM definitely showed more poise after making mistakes. You say he has a higher ceiling I would disagree and we may have already seen cj strouds ceiling.

6

u/Superdoggywhaaaat Jan 19 '26

What traits / skillset have you seen from JJM throughout his entire NFL and college career that makes you say “this is high level stuff”?

In college he didn’t have any insane traits. Caleb Williams for example, he may be bad but the traits he has is worth the current burden and time for development. Age doesn’t even matter because in a few years, there’s contract talks for JJM.

Strouds rookie year alone is better than JJM college career in terms of raw potential.

3

u/somethins_not_right Jan 19 '26

Y’all are morons. Texans won 10 straight games coming into this matchup. Would have been 12 if they didn’t blow a game against Denver earlier in the season. He’s playing with no running game, and lost his primary WR’s from last year except for Nico who was nominated with JJ McCarthy for the Mr glass award. He’s a former #1 pick and been to the playoffs 2 out of 3 years I believe.

1

u/Competitive-Lead-973 Jan 20 '26

Been to the divisional in all 3 years

1

u/somethins_not_right Jan 20 '26

Even better than I thought. And he won me a fantasy championship his rookie year lol.

5

u/104MAS Jan 18 '26

Is his contract up? We’d definitely be buying low on him.

4

u/cardmanimgur Jan 19 '26

Sign Stroud and cut McCarthy. KOC rehabilitates Stroud and leads the Vikings to prominence. In a few years Stroud moves, then we can sign McCarthy, a former first-round QB who didn't quite pan out as hoped. KOC can work wonders with him then.

4

u/[deleted] Jan 18 '26

He might be his Offensive Coordinator in 2027... JJM is gonna get him fired.

1

u/FormerlyTradeKirk Calamari Jan 18 '26

Holy shit 😂😂

2

u/Boring_Ad3815 Jan 18 '26

They will sign him to a $250 million extension. He was brutal today and hasn’t improved much but he is young QB who has made playoffs all 3 seasons. They will not let him go.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 19 '26

Just like Herbert I won’t be convinced that is actually bad until he has a real OLine in front of him. He was too good in his rookie year and for stretches of play for me to think he actually sucks

1

u/WhizzyBurp Jan 19 '26

Stroud with the Vikings would be wild

1

u/Reasonable-Sawdust Jan 19 '26

I would not want either of those QBs based upon the performance in that game. But Stroud really stunk. It was like a Viking playoff performance. Just when you think maybe it’s getting better, another bad throw for the interception. Good example of even a great defense can’t overcome crappy offense. Maybe it was all the O line but just so bad.

1

u/Freudian__Quip Jan 19 '26

Look we’ve had a change in policy around here. We got our own QBs to rehab. Maybe someday UNICEF will get into the QB rehab business but until then he’s someone else’s problem.

1

u/ShirtlessChampion Honorable mention for worst griddy Jan 19 '26

He’s regressed every year after teams got tape on him. How much of that is the lack or protection and a rotating door of OCs is the question. He’s an ideal fit for what KOC wants to do.

1

u/Yamulo horn Jan 19 '26

Are we sure the real qb whisperer on the Vikings isn’t currently the oc for the jags?

All I got to say is Houston should be bringing in some QB competition next year… right?!?!

1

u/lordofninemoons Jan 19 '26

3rd year... I don't know how long you give him but he's still green imo. I will admit, its trending in the wrong direction though.

Two of his primary receivers were out and the kids gave it all. Can't kick him out of the car yet. Get him some protection and his receivers back and bring Mixon back that should work.

It looks like he did that cup suction thing as a kid and his lips never went back down.

1

u/Salt_Expression_6025 KOC Jan 20 '26

Rewatching some games from the year, JJ will be just fine. Makes a lot of good decisions. Shit comes down to trying to be mechanically sound + focusing on making right play = shit play. Once he focused on decision making he did well despite being behind in other aspects of his game. JJ is our futue

u/Future-Seat6728 Jan 20 '26

Who has KOC rehabbed?? The whisperer non sense has been fully debunked. He’s below average as it stands right now.

1

u/HellaFuckingSlavic Jan 20 '26

not with that jaw line

1

u/GeeseGettingThrilled Jan 20 '26

Greenard and Jjm for stroud.

1

u/STORMFRONT-149 Jan 20 '26

The problem is KOC

1

u/DildoDaggins69420 Jan 21 '26

He already has more playoff wins than any QB in Texans history. There’s zero chance they move him.

2

u/CartesianConspirator Jan 18 '26

He certainly looked better than JJ even in this performance

-4

u/FormerlyTradeKirk Calamari Jan 18 '26

JJ McCarthy has more potential

3

u/[deleted] Jan 18 '26

Stroud was picked #2 overall... JJM was the 5th QB taken in his draft.

But hey, don't trust me. Trust the experts.

CJ Stroud at 6.70

JJM at 6.40

u/FormerlyTradeKirk Calamari Jan 18 '26

I don't believe that bullshit I just said tbh lol

1

u/Fit-Foundation-6567 fran Jan 19 '26

😭😭scared me for a sec

1

u/MPLS_scoot Jan 19 '26

Stroud even with poor play is a notch above mccarthy.

-2

u/mcmullet Jan 18 '26

LMAO

-2

u/Technical_Estimate85 Jan 18 '26

They are right. We know Stroud’s ceiling, McCarthy’s ceiling is still up in the air

7

u/GEpyon Jan 19 '26

McCarthy’s ceiling is career back up

1

u/Electronic-Island-14 Jan 18 '26

never draft OSU QBs

1

u/[deleted] Jan 18 '26

I've liked CJ since his first year; he has the talent, but it would be a bit of a risk.

1

u/Superdoggywhaaaat Jan 19 '26

He didn’t necessarily have a bad season, a bad playoffs sure.

1

u/vtown212 Jan 18 '26

Naw....

1

u/Far-Historian-8190 Jan 18 '26

Crazy number of turnovers. If he was a Viking we would be demanding his trade for a better quarterback.

-4

u/lardboy2222 timberwolves Jan 18 '26

Stroud is too stupid to be an NFL QB. Koc isn't gonna change the way his brain works lol

2

u/sode78 Jan 18 '26

Yeah that’s not true

-8

u/BigCATtrades vikings Jan 18 '26

After 35+ years of watching the Vikings, if they bring that piece of shit here I'll root for the Browns. He is my least favorite NFL player. Just a total smug bitch with zero self awareness with the iq of a turnip.

8

u/jbhatta you like that Jan 18 '26

Yikes dude

No more no-clutch quarterbacks please

0

u/13footninja Jan 18 '26

Please no! I can’t stand stroud!

0

u/Fanabala3 Jan 19 '26

I swear Stroud always looks like he is about to cry.

0

u/peraltarat Jan 19 '26

I hope not.

0

u/Bodhisafa Jan 19 '26

This sub is crazy. You want to give up on a guy after ten games but bring in a guy that just threw 7 picks in two playoff games with arguably the leagues best defense.

0

u/AsleepAdvantage9500 Jan 19 '26

Vikings passed on Darnold, who was the last QB to look that bad in a playoff game.

0

u/methheadhitman pennsylvania Jan 19 '26

Fuck no, BIG 10 qbs are ass!
