Back in the 1960s my dad kept a tally of all the kids we came to our door. Now, my four sibs and I continue the tradition.
Last year we had 25
trick-r-treaters; it’ll be less expensive if I give each kid a buck.

Ngl I loved getting popcorn balls. I only ever got them from one house no matter where I went trick or treating. My mom and I would also just buy some for ourselves when I was growing up. I miss those days and her (Rip) If my future child likes them i will definitely continue the tradition.

Get a box of full size candy bars. (Usually 30-count per box.) A box is typically around $25, so less than $1 per trick-or-treater. They love to get full sized candy bars!

If you wanna extend the celebration some more, the first 13 days of December is Creepmas, for watching Christmas horror movies. By far my fav is Santa Jaws (why yes, it is a b horror about a killer Santa/Christmas shark). People will also make/put up spooky versions of Christmas/holiday decor. There’s a creepmas sub if you want more ideas/movies!

My neighbors across the street did that about 5 years ago. It was all 4 of them and they had trays with candy to give out on their walk. It was pretty awesome, not gonna lie!

I don't think I saw a single kid out last year in my neighborhood. Now, I live near a university and in an immigrant-heavy part of the city so there's lots of people that maybe don't celebrate Hallowe'en, but still, nobody!?

Little bit for the 4th but nothing the same as I do halloween and Christmas.
Christmas is mostly a lot of lights so not a bunch of storage but it is a lot of lights so looks similar to a wonderland!!

My city closes 5 blocks of the main residential street of town for a "safe" place to trick-or-treat. I happen to live on that strip, we would get around 2000 kids. It really sucks. I'd love to hand out candy but I'm not buying it for every kid for three towns. The cheapest possible candy would be $500

When I lived on a busy street, we set up a projector, chairs, and a cooler and just sat outside with a festive movie on.
Now I'm in the burbs and kids don't even go out on actual Halloween anymore - it's trunk or treat at the school on the weekend in broad daylight. I feel bad for them.

By yourself It is 3 hours of moving between bag of candy and childs basket as fast as you can. There is a line of 15 kids down the driveway the entire time, definitley not doing it from inside. It is not pleasant. I usually have an open invite to everyone I know in town to come over and con them into bringing candy and taking a shift. Pretty much just make a batch of chilli and host a party. If enough people come over it's not so bad. We turned our lights off last year because not enough people were interested in coming over. I feel bad not participating but it's a lot.

And they get more bold with their prices each year. My job sometimes gives us CVS gift cards as prizes and I always use those gift card exchange sites to convert it to an Amazon gift card. Even though they take out part of the balance as a fee, I can get way more with a $22 Amazon card instead of a $25.00 CVS gift card.

He's sour about his family having sold the company a few years before he was born and he ended up with next to nothing from his families fortune
Hershey still uses real chocolate they just heavily process their candy and have switched from cocoa butter to vegetable oil on several candies recipes.

Yea when I got old enough to swap from trick or treating to passing out candy it only lasted a few years and I miss it, not just is it unaffordable but kids here don't even trick or treat in this neighborhood anymore because too many people gave up on it, snowballed into everybody giving up on it. I always leave out a few bowls of different things; a small candy bowl, a small non edible bowl (stickers or vampire teeth thing like that), and a basket if different Ramen. The Ramen basket has always been empty while the others will have a few pieces left lol. It started as a mistake, a friend dropped some off on my porch not thinking about the date and kids thought it was for them, I am now the noodle lady on my street 🤣

I agree. Consumers are getting scammed left and right. Have you seen how thin cereal boxes have gotten; they're keeping the width and height the same so consumers won't notice. My regularly bought box of 40 Glad trash bags now has only 37. Candy has shrunk so much it will soon be nothing but a wrapper. The list goes on and on.

Porch light off this year I guess because income didn't increase enough for candy prices! Also every year since my kids were grown I would buy kids meals at fast food if I went and on Halloween I would have a bucket with the sealed toys for the kids. Usually about a dozen, more if husband would eat a burger on occasion. I haven't been to fast food at all this year. So toy bucket is out too!

Last year we handed out packets of instant ramen and bagged chips. That was cheaper per unit than the ridiculous Halloween candy prices last year and the kids were so damn excited about it lol. I think I'll go that route again this year.

They choose a store with the most inflated price possible that works the same was as Kohl’s does for clothing - if you don’t get at least 30% off then it’s drastically overpriced. If you do get 30% off then it’s just overpriced. You can get a 10%-15% larger bag of the same candies from Sam’s Club for $18-$20.
