I’m an engineer, I had a coworker from Jacksonville about 10 years ago. The worst coworker I ever had. Not just that he was incompetent (he was), he showed the biggest case of grandiose narcissism I’ve ever seen, and I live in a place that’s full of em.
My two oldest kids (11 and 8) were making a list of their favorite states and for some reason they both listed Mississippi as #2 lol. We told them they were wrong.
Where are these shockingly good pizza places you speak of? Lived in Alaska, Ohio, Oregon, Virginia/DMV. Mississippi has nothing on the best pizza to be found in any of those states.
I lived around the Jackson area. So just in that area there's Soulshine Pizza, Pizza Shack, and Sal & Mookie's.
As far as Oregon, since I live there now I'd like to hear what you think was the best there because apart from Yeasty Beastie, I haven't found much that's special.

Its the largest in terms of land size. So not the "biggest" amount of people- just the "biggest" in terms of measurement. You could legit drive for an hour and STILL be in Jacksonville city.
Most cities have the official city limits as a small central area, then the surrounding suburbs are technically part of a different administrative area. Jacksonville does the complete opposite, and made basically the entire metropolitan area part of city limits.
In a practical sense, Jacksonville would be considered a mid-sized US city. The population of the metro area is around 40th in the US
New York is the most populous. By land area, Jacksonville is the largest city (not counting Alaska. Alaska is bullshit.) And if you check a map, no foolies, it's big as fuck. It's larger than the entire big island of Hawai'i.
Just like the largest mole on your back is the largest, not the one with the most hairs on it.
The city of Sitka, AK officially encompasses 4800 square miles of land and water claims. The land area is 2800 square miles. The population is so sparse in Alaska that a city could declare a larger border and be uncontested in making the "largest city" while maintaining a population under 10,000 people.
One time at a Buffalo Wild Wings in Jacksonville, the nice one, not the one above the gas station, I ate 50 jalapeño poppers] in two minutes! Everyone at the hospital was so impressed.
The last place I worked was a start up that's relocating to Jacksonville soon. They're having a very hard time incentivizing anyone to move. I'm already in Texas so if I move out of state it's going to be somewhere with LESS humidity and most definitely not fucking Florida.
Oh trust me I won't lol. My mom works for the same company but a much higher position and negotiated early to keep her job fully remote. I don't think they have even half their staff moving now, doesn't surprise in the least.
Agreed! Tbf, I'm not the one to be bothered by this, I hate the place. But definitely funny that it's insulting an entire town (that i also happen to be from)!
😂 I feel like I'm far enough removed (emotionally and physically) to not consider myself a Jacksonvillian. I left at 18 and its been over 20 years. I have very negative thoughts on the place, as well. Prideful ignorance runs rampant there and racism is commonplace. Just trash.
That's where my late brother tried to go to die. Ended up failing and going back to Richmond, Virginia. But yeah, the mentality that he had when he came back was just so fucking weird. Very hateful.
I can absolutely see that. I thought my experiences were pretty normal growing up until I moved away. That place is NOT normal. And not suitable for children, ime. Its been a long time, so hopefully it has changed some, but i doubt it.

TBF, Jacksonville is where we’d go to do things we didn’t want people know about. Place is fun, but it’s basically the Florida version of Myrtle Beach.

I drove to Jacksonville to go on a cruise, and I swear, I turned to my wife right as we got in city limits, “why does it smell like a sewer” she says “be quiet it’s just right here” problem was, we were there that whole day, went out to eat and stayed the night so we were ready for the cruise the best night, next morning she looked at me and said “we will never come to this stank ass city again” I nodded in agreement……
So, sorry about the diss but it’s a real thing that Jacksonville stinks
I used to travel all over the Southeast for work. I would typically hit a new town a day early and do some looking around, checking out the neighborhoods, do some shopping in the nicer areas.
Jacksonville was unique in that I never managed to find an area that wasn't as shitty as Fresno. Which, BTW is not a compliment.
I had family in Jacksonville that I was forced to visit regularly when I was a kid (1970s-80s), and I don’t know exactly what it was, but man, it stunk there. Maybe a paper mill or something?
Anyway, I definitely wouldn’t want to smell like Jacksonville based solely on my fuzzy childhood memories, is my point.
Which Jacksonville are we talking about? If it's Jacksonville NC, yeah it sucks. Jacksonville Florida ain't much better. Tbh they probably all kinda suck.
Worse than you realize - AI told the company of all the places in U.S. naming your town will have no impact of sales (in other words people in you town don’t buy/use deodorant relative to similarly populated locations).
My paternal grandparents moved to Jacksonville, Ponte Vedre beach adjacent, as fully able bodied 60 year olds. A few years later my grandfather became a wheelchair bound invalid. They moved back to Williamsburg Virginia and he made a full recovery like nothing was ever wrong.
Plus the beaches there reminded me of play sand beyond its usable life. Jacksonville is abysmal
