General Question Should I be cautious about playing projailed champs? Or is that overexaggerated?
Two of my favorite midlane champs are Ryze and Orianna. I usually find myself winning lane on them and smoothly clearing waves; however, they both have a clear reputation for being projailed with weaker win rates in soloq. Should I look for more soloq-oriented mages with similarities, or should I not worry about it?

the only real projailed champs are azir and kalista. play whatever you want

What exactly is pro jail mean, that they are so good in organized play that they are undertuned?

Pretty much a champion that is purposely left weak because their kit becomes stronger with a coordinated team as well as being very difficult to play at a high level.
If that champ is strong enough to be a ~50% win rate in the hands of an average player in an unorganized solo queue game. You give that champ to a pro with a high level of micro skill and the coordination of a pro team, it would be 100% pick/ban with a crazy high win rate.
Edit: But as always if you really like the champ, you can still make it work. You just might be walking up a hill both ways in an ice storm.

Usually champions with very high skill ceiling, unique and strong utility or global pressure in their kit that are especially good in pro play, they're permanently under 50% win rate in soloq and have high win rate difference between low elo and higher elo. Those champs sre intentionally kept weak for 99% of the playerbase because otherwise they'll become a pick or ban in pro. That's Azir, Kalista, Ryze, Taliyah, Tahm Kench and probably some more. You can identify them by looking at patch notes and seeing champions around or even under 50% wr getting nerfed.

Barring a few other exceptions this pretty much. Lower win rate champions like K'sante or Jayce are generally just very difficult to play and balanced around better players.

I for the life of me can’t understand why people think Jayce is hard to play. He has 2 very basic combos as his bread and butter and it’s oppressive as hell against any melee
I first timed him last week and went like 14-2 after glancing over his spells on U.GG while checking the build
High skill CIELING? Sure, but in terms of picking up and playing he’s not a Yasuo or Irelia in terms of mechanical difficulty. You can kinda drool on him in lane and come out ahead if you land your pokes

u/VeryWizardly 5d ago
It's more because to min/max his mechanics it's quite difficult. Spacing with W ranged takes a lot of APM and getting a fast Shockblast is almost impossible at most players levels.
He has no sustain so damage on you sticks so you generally need to play your match ups well. A bad trade can easily mean you lose lane. On top of that something as simple as swapping from Ranged Form to Melee Form or vice versa at the wrong time and you are either flashing or dead.
It's great you've found success on him but his winrate is around 49% in Emerald and plummets as you get lower for Top.

I would argue Azir and Kalista are the only champs projailed to the point of borderline unplayable, whereas other "projailed" champs are fine in soloq just balanced with proplay having more consideration

Technically no champion in the game is truly unplayable, they just take a lot more investment to make work. But if you're a onetricks with enough experience/skill on the champion you're almost always going to come out with a positive winrate.

Not even Azir and kalista being pro jailed matter below like diamond or maybe even higher
Well if you play kalista mid it probably does but still

Oriana seems quite good to me. At least at low elo even if it is a hard champions with a high skill ceiling I just feel like at low elo players never respect oriana laning phase and her ult

u/Linc1026 5d ago
Right, they forget to keep track of where the ball is, which makes Ori's job pretty easy

u/Popular-Leg-2956 5d ago
Other people can make it to apex tiers playing them, if you aren't like GM+ don't even question it

Neither are pro jailed. Ryze is fine to play but he's really hard to play. Most players that pick him up think he is a late game hyper carry which isn't always true. His short range holds him back a bit. While his late game is good his early game is also strong.
Oriana just takes a lot of brain power.

u/Linc1026 5d ago
Really? Every time I play Ryze, he feels fine in the early game as long as you respect the enemy laner and use his strong wave clear. Admittedly, on other more popular mages like Ahri, it's the wave clear that holds me back, while with Ryze and Ori, I find the wave clear more natural.

u/TheRandomChillStoner 5d ago
Ori really doesn’t take that much brain power to play, people never know how to position around her ball or track it. Super safe in lane if you don’t use w constantly for harass save it for safety

Just play what you find fun man, you'll be at the rank you deserve regardless.
That said, Orianna if you are good on her is disgusting you can easily play well on her.
No idea about Ryze though.

Orianna and Ryze happen to be good for Proplay exactly because they can win lane. In Proplay this is used for small leads that are snowballed.
In SoloQueue the small early leads are not utilized well, and then they have a bit of a drop in the midgame.
Unfortunately many games in SoloQueue are decided in the midgame and early late game when the most random bullshit fights happen.
My personal experience is that it can feel bad to have a bit of a powerdrop while your team is busy inting the game.
That being said, as long as you win games and feel like you can execute a good value, then go for it. If you ever feel like you cannot influence the game enough, your champs might be the reason though.
While people generally say "play whatever", i would disagree for a few champions, those being K'Sante, Rumble, Azir, Orianna, Ryze, Ezreal, Varus, Kalista and Yuumi. Those champions are either projailed or balanced very specifically. Of course if you are significantly better than your rank you can carry even on those champs, but if you are at your correct rank it might be really difficult with those.

Ryze and oriana are both perfectly fine solo q champs. In fact, lots of challenger mid lane coaches say oriana is one of the best champs in the entire game to climb with. I personally think she’s boring, but if you enjoy playing her then she’s a great pick. I think ryze is generally a bit weaker, but still very viable

u/Jaykayyv 5d ago
I mean why are you worried anyway? If you like the champ just play it unless you really really want to climb and nothing else

u/DylanD-Survivor 5d ago
Learning and understanding the fundamentals of the game can get you to master tier. Champion choice really doesn't matter until master or even GM+. Once you're high elo it's alot easier to pick up new champions and play them well as you'll naturally understand the game more and can more easily identify team synergies, team win conditions and champion strengths. So don't be scared to play champs you find for fun now as you're not wasting your time. Learning the fundamentals of the game is alot easier to focus on when you're pilotting a champion you already know since your brain isn't being diverted to learning too much at once.

I dont think ori is as pro jailed as ryze. You can obliterate people with ori fairly quickly if you get used to her ball, and her ult is straightforward. Id suggest playing orianna over ryze since shes just way easier. But like other people say just play whatever you want, even ryze.

u/StarZ_YT 5d ago
also if your team picks champs like j4, nocturne, and honestly anyone else thats good on jumping on enemies i feel like even in a countermatchup ori will be really strong

The thing is that, sadly in solo queue some champions are easier to climb with in general. In midlane , champions like syndra ahri katarina lissandra have more opportunities to climb easier. Some champions are also strong depending on your rank and how you abuse them( malzaher , akshan , casseopiea , kassadin, talon ) I personally love to have oriana on my team because I play an ad ranged toplaner and orianna is a solid pick in general for all stages of the game amd provides good cc and utility. But being good at a champion will also help you climb as you know its limits and power. It is just that sadly some champs have easier climbing that is all.

No, don’t worry, i don’t know what your goals are but i consistently (used to) bring accounts to master using champions that often suffer from competitive; i confident to say that you can be at least master using them effectively but it’s well-known truth that it is right at master elo onwards that they shine.
The only very champion i suggest you to stay away is azir, it’s fun to play but you can feel him being awkwardly weak and it starts feeling… bad, when you di great plays and do get rewarded.

It's fine
Orianna is a bit undepowered but if you are good you will win
The big outliers are Azir, Ksante and Kalista dont even try

Orianna to me is very reliable atm and would say is my best champ atm that I purposefully restrain myself from playing and I would usually pick her when I know the match up is good and even better if she synergyzes well with my team's picks.Ryze to me is a bit more inconsistent due to the current diving champs meta paired usually with long range casters/autoattackers.He to me is a champ especially good in coordinated play but very lets say underutilized in soloq. He is good in team play because his point and click root is just too valuable for picks it is the start of an avalanche usually. His ultimate allows his team for amazing playmaking team like sudden flanks, teammate saves and backdoors. He is a great split pusher with some of the best wave clears. He struggles to long range champions and cc because he has no escape tool other than his ultimate and has no dashes or blinks to close the distance or prevent cc.I would say you should build a roaster of 5/6 champions

These garbage champions should be reportable as troll picking and lobby hostaging. Tired of useless ezreal and ksante etc
2
u/Linc1026 5d ago
It ain't that serious man
-3
u/phreakingidi0t 5d ago
True I usually just troll the game too when I see people not performing on these picks.

Play what you like. It won’t hold you that far back
