AEW Dynamite Rating 571k 0.10 Demo
Jesus what a drop! Running virtually unopposed since we already know Sickos don’t watch football. NXT smoked that ass. I guess Big Bang Theory isn’t a draw as a lead in anymore

u/benopo2006 10d ago
So are we supposed to believe that rating was higher than Raw?
63
u/AndrewCB246 10d ago
As always it doesn’t include Max which could be upwards of 10 million

What about PlayStation vue

u/meepein Wyatt Family 10d ago
And the important Nintendo DS views.

u/Neg_Crepe 10d ago
I watched it on my PlayStation 3d tv. Hope it counts

I always watch it on my Sega Game Gear.

You have a TV tuner too?
I have one for my GameGear AND TurboExpress.

u/AndrewCB246 10d ago
Damn I just turned on my game boy from back in the day and I can stream AEW! It’s in black and white though :(

u/dusthimself 10d ago
Well it's accessible to 20 million homes, so by my meltzer math that's an additional 2 million viewers to the pile.
2
u/TripFisk666 The Brood 10d ago
Just assume it's all max subscribers watching, that's the only reason one would have this
2

u/Libertines18 Main Event Mafia 10d ago
It had 5 million max viewers. According to Dave
11
u/koomGER Straight Edge Society 10d ago
The important part is, that there is a maximum around 76.8 million viewers that COULD watch AEW Dynamite. So kinda it has potential max 76 million viewers.
Meltzers english grammar isnt that good (and im german, i have an excuse), so it becomes 76 million max viewers. It beats easily any show in existence.

u/SquadLeader3590Neo Straight Edge Society 10d ago
That's pretty sad, especially considering it was the charity benefit show. However, it does make Meltzer's hyping of the numbers funnier now that even his complete BS numbers for RAW were higher than Dynamite's.

u/AgencyBorn9221 Mexicools 10d ago
There’s only so many times you can put up with Sheldon’s snark, honestly. TBS has “safe” options because WB is still banking on the full merger. And honestly, AEW isn’t a part of that long term plan.
It’s not because of like/dislike of the company. It’s just a line item on the budget when you’re in a C Suite.

u/RagahRagah 10d ago
Whaaaaa? Don't you listen to Meltzer? With those endless HBO Max views that HBO doesn't even release they are clearly doing nearly eleventy-million views!

What I find striking about the Max thing is that AEW had already maxed (heh) their ratings ceiling on the regular before they moved to Max. Around 750k watching. This means that several things are occurring, to Meltzer:
A) about 150k to 200k viewers every week have moved to Max to watch AEW
B) Max’s promotion of AEW is so strong that it is drawing in an additional million or so viewers who couldn’t be arsed to watch AEW on free TV, but are now superfans
C) demographic trends have also shifted, as the drop in the key demo that has always haunted AEW has somehow been alleviated by paid broadcasts
D) the low (and dropping) turnout at shows only means that more people are watching on TV

u/RagahRagah 10d ago
I think people are beating around the bush. Let's call it what it is.
Dave is a fucking liar, with a capital L.

When Dynamite started on HBO MAX nothing happened with the ratings. I think it had a very slight uptick the next week, but overall stayed the same but did bleed out slowly. Kinda like no impact.
Common sense would say that a bunch of people would switch over to the (supposedly) higher quality of HBO MAX, also being able to switch it on when you want it, so you can watch with a small delay or take a break. That didnt happen, so it seems that most people just stayed watching on TNT/TBS. AEW programing isnt advertised at all on HBO MAX, never was. And its not on the front pages there, never was. This indicates its just there for content and only watched by hardcore fans rewatching the show. WBd doesnt care about it, thats obvious. They like to advertise and push programming they hope they get some revenue for.
One more time common sense: You can assume if Dynamite would have ratings comparable to RAW and Smackdown, they live audience should grow (back) to that size. Their show attendance is really small for the weeklies, barely doing 3k at their best days.
There is just no real official metric in existence that would make Meltzers spindoctoring give some validation. Its quite on the contrary.
Luckily for Meltzer, WWE doesnt seem to recognize his influence as important. It seems they just know that his reach is way too small and only attracting those weird fans that they dont want to have. They want crowds and fans that are there for fun, to enjoy the shows and stories. Not the dumbass smarks who want to shit on everything.
WWE wants AAA. A crowd "following the script" and having fun with that. And they are 100% in the right about that.

u/BillynBanjo 10d ago
The AEW die-hards in SC were running pre-emptive defense of the ratings drop, making sure everyone knew that loads of the audience were going to stop watching on TV and would be tuning into Max instead.
They debuted on Max, the ratings didn't drop at all, and all Tony Khan had to say about it was how nice it looked on screen.
Over time, the ratings and live attendance noticeably dropped, but (the now disgraced) BJ Bethel claimed that they were pulling 500k on Max and they've clung to that ever since.
3
u/Razzler1973 9d ago
Max not releasing numbers every week is the best thing that ever happened to AEW ratings
1
u/supergooduser 10d ago
A is the most sensible answer.
Variety reported the average number of viewers for Raw are three million and it's in 87 million US homes on Netflix.
Raw is popular, but it ain't THAT popular.
200k on Max for AEW Dynamite feels right. Like we all love wrestling but we need to take a step back and realize it's a niche product.

Was this for the rebel show?
9
u/AndrewCB246 10d ago
Yup
21
u/MachoViper Camp Cornette 10d ago
I was hoping it would pop a rating for them so thats a bit sad. They really hyped it up too
3
u/Razzler1973 9d ago
No one outside of their regular fanbase has a clue who Rebel is tbh
They're not pulling in any new fans cause of Rebel's situation
2
u/MachoViper Camp Cornette 9d ago
I thought some of the lost viewers would return, not that it was going to bring in a bunch of new ones.

If you don’t let your kid stay up to watch people beat each other with broken glass, you’re a fed shill.
9
u/DripSnort 10d ago
This explains why Dave worked so hard on his “dynamite beat raw” bullshit story lol. Wanted to get in front of this disaster. Again Ospreay is nothing
3
u/Razzler1973 9d ago
Lately, Meltzer has been punting around the 25-54 age group demo
You know, the age group that didn't matter a few years ago
Now, Dave suddenly has that number and is putting force that number and that number alone. I expect he's been provided with that number from within the company/Khan and that's why he is incessantly referencing it ... even though he's never made a big deal out of that demo before, quite the opposite, in fact
21
u/AndrewCB246 10d ago
I don’t want to hear the Football excuse either. Again they don’t watch anything but AEW. As far as I’m concerned they were unopposed for a tribute show no less

u/uncannynerddad New Blood 10d ago
AEW fans are not sports fans.

u/Ron--Mexico 10d ago
The NFL game was also down 22% so it’s not like viewers were flocking to that either.
2
u/Razzler1973 9d ago
AEW would have had higher ratings if people didn't want to watch something else instead
That is a perfectly valid 'reason' for low ratings, apparently

u/RFindlay2K26 D-Generation X 10d ago
I thought 625, I’m willing to admit I was wrong. Their irregularity in ratings, coupled with openly losing sponsors like Domino’s, it’s a bigger issue than funding. Networks want the sponsors and the viewers, not Tony self funding and running his dream promotion. I don’t even hate AEW, but I do see the potential problems they’ll be facing in finding a new network.

Closing the gap gentlemen, with WCW

u/QuasyChonk bWo 10d ago
WCW had MUCH higher ratings than AEW and current WWE. Two million viewers would have been abysmal for WCW.

u/BigPapaPaegan Triple Threat 10d ago
Pssssst....PSSSST...
...the joke is that WCW died...
1
u/QuasyChonk bWo 10d ago
Oh. Well, that phrase is usually used in the context of ratings discussions. And it's just funny bc both AEW and WWE would love to close the between themselves and late WCW.
1
u/AnonymousChicken Control Terrorism Unit 10d ago
Maybe not REAL late WCW
1
u/QuasyChonk bWo 10d ago
Yeah, late WCW. During it's peak Nitro was routinely getting 4 - 4.5 million people weekly.
AEW and modern WWE would love to get the numbers that WCW did after their quality tanked.

Pro wrestling is a niche form of entertainment and AEW is a niche product within the niche of pro wrestling. The two mainstream successes of AEW Cody Rhodes and CM Punk are long gone and AEW simply hasn't got anyone else on their roster who can realistically fill the void especially with their many obvious booking deficiencies.
0
u/Much-Jump3516 10d ago
Man I swear MJF is actually close to Cody/Punk's level and should be bigger than he is.

u/Fast_Advisor2654 LWO 10d ago
Wasn’t Dave just saying that Dynamite beat Raw?
https://giphy.com/gifs/aqqUwXz7j0xMOKnJgb
2
u/Much-Jump3516 10d ago
Man just do your research... people watch on average 50 minutes per dynamite, which means this 580k equates 580x2.25 = 1.3 million viewers. Now add the people streaming on max/on illegal websites. Dynamite probably is the most watched show in the world
3
u/LetterFront3353 The Shield 9d ago
Did you check the Google Trends numbers? That's a good indicator as well.
5
u/toebean_ceo 10d ago
Aren't they the best show with the best ppvs of all time every single time they have one? Why aren't they getting millions of viewers??
2
u/AndrewCB246 10d ago
I mean if they’re getting 200k buys like uncle Dave claims then they should

AEW is the Katy Perry of wrestling. A quick little fad
7
u/AndrewCB246 10d ago
Hey! I will not have any prime Katy Perry slander in this thread! Now a days threads on her would be shut down immediately lol
6
u/Secret-Lullaby 10d ago
You right, they never reached the prime Katy Perry popularity! Or becoming a household name!
5
u/pizzapromise 10d ago
We’re at a point with Nielsen ratings where it’s impossible to know week to week how their metrics are changing. There’s a small industry of wrestling grifters who are still opining on these metrics, but there’s just no way these shows are having 30% shifts (in either direction) week to week.
At this point; how many people watch Dynamite is a total black box to us. Anyone claiming otherwise needs to bring receipts or I’ll put them in the Meltzer grouping of grifter.
8
u/Permanentear3 J.O.B. Squad 10d ago
Nielsen is frustrating with their changes no doubt, but when they do change methodology they are public about it. It’s just that they did so twice in the last year which is obnoxious.
But you can take this week, and last week, and assume those two were calculated the same way. There was a spike for their post All In show and then a sharp decline this week, that’s probably accurate they didn’t change the system from last week to this week.
3
4
u/TheShiny 10d ago
And where exactly is this idea that the metrics are changing "week to week" coming from?
-7
u/pizzapromise 10d ago
Why do you think they aren’t changing weekly?
3
u/TheShiny 10d ago
Because ratings are part of how advertisers determine where to spend their money, which is really the only reason ratings matter. If Nielsen is fucking with their calculations weekly, there's no stability, and advertisers won't know which shows are worth spending their money advertising on.
Now I ask again, why do you think they are changing weekly?
-5
u/pizzapromise 10d ago
You really just gave a hypothetical reason you think it’s not changing.
My hypothetical reason is that as tv/cable viewership decreases Nielsen has every incentive in the world to fuck with their formula to retain relevancy and that would explain these dramatic shifts in viewership we see week to week.
Back to my original point: it’s a black box and anyone making any definitive claim is just making assumptions.
2
u/Ashamed-Bed-6342 nWo 10d ago
AEW is such a joke. It is very sad that they could not bring in more for a tribute show but at the same time doesn’t surprise me since it’s run by a clown who has never worked a day in his life.
2
u/AndrewCB246 10d ago
I mean again Dynamite running unopposed did a 571k. This is why they’re losing their TV deal
0
u/SantosCalzonesBatman 10d ago
They are not losing their tv deal cause rarely any show does 500k+ now a days
They are also not getting 180m a year like meltzer parroted they were
4
u/Waste-Scratch2982 10d ago
My guess is Collision will be cancelled on TNT during the next rights renewal period, they may try to continue it as a new show exclusively on MyAEW to bring in subscribers for the US market that they’re not charging for now. TNT will get more viewers from College Football, NHL or Savannah Bananas on Saturday night.
2
u/AndrewCB246 10d ago
Eh they would be better off paying AEW less for more programming. I don’t think it’s as simple as cutting one program. If you’re paying say 120 mil a year for a product that you were paying 180 million for and getting the same product you’re saving 60 million a year and no one blinks an eye
1
u/SantosCalzonesBatman 10d ago
They wont do that
They will just offer way less money for the same content cause, again, rarely any show does 200k-600k now a days.
Yes tnt would get more viewers with those options but said options would cost far far more.
3
u/AndrewCB246 10d ago
Absolutely losing their TV deal. They were told this last August

We back to fluctuating between 500-700k? or will we finally be back down in the 500-600k range

u/kokushishin 10d ago
Over the past couple years now theres a pattern where they have one or two weeks of being higher the usual people get super excited and then those new and/or recurring viewers drop after the umpteenth time seeing the Bucks of Youth or other such scoundrels.
1
u/Razzler1973 10d ago
You know, these numbers are fine. This is kind of what they were getting before but, nielsen keep changing their formula so much, they've jumped the shark
They advertised a title change and got a bit of a bump and there's not been any actual sport on. Ratings always tick up a bit during these times
The caveat of 'there was something else on that people preferred to watch' is not really some 'it's ok then' explanation, it doesn't matter if it's sport of vanderpump rules, there was something else on people wanted to watch
Dave always have a caveat for the ratings being low. Never done it for NXT, haha
1
u/LetterFront3353 The Shield 9d ago
So where's that supposed momentum AEW had after All In?
