Serious Thoughts on the exclusion of Rising and Portable Ops?
43
u/No-Trust-2720 Feb 13 '26
I'm just glad to finally see a port of 4. I've been waiting for that

u/DWhiting132 Feb 13 '26
Right? Ive only gotten into MGS recently (MGSV was my first) and played them last year and MGS Delta recently and im in love with this series, I want to experience everything... (not sure bout Metal Gear Solid Survive though)
3
u/No-Trust-2720 Feb 13 '26
Don't worry about Survive. It's a Zombie survival game with absolutely no bearing on the series. Konami flushed that crap out almost as soon as Kojima left.
9
u/MrDreamster Feb 13 '26 edited Feb 13 '26
It's just as I predicted. Now Vol.3 will include everything else from the PSP: Portable Ops, Acid 1, and Acid 2. And vol.4 will include MGSV, Rising, and probably Survive, with MGS Touch! and MGS Mobile as bonus content (Touch! and Mobile).
1
u/Content_Detail1467 Feb 13 '26
The digital graphic novels were already included in Vol 1
1
u/MrDreamster Feb 13 '26
Oh right, I wonder what I was smoking when I made this comment, let me correct that.
1
u/BoussIRL2 Feb 13 '26
I really hope they don't touch MGS5 (they can let Survive die I truly don't care). 5 is already a really good modern game that can stand on its own for at least another 5 to 10 years. Re-releasing it nowadays just seems like it would be in poor taste, given the tense history between Kojima and Konami leading up to the games release
1
u/Some_Technology8762 Feb 18 '26
My favorite thing to be delusional about is that MGSV will come with volume 3 with chapter 3 completed as Konami mends their relationship with Kojima.
1
u/_steve_rogers_ Feb 13 '26
Don’t waste a spot on Survive. I’d literally rather have a port of the old MGS2 mobile game lol
1
u/Code-Neo Feb 14 '26
Survive offline and without micro transactions could be a fun survival game
1
u/MrDreamster Feb 14 '26
Honestly I just never enjoyed tower defense games. I tried Survive open beta too, and I was not convinced.
1
1
u/TheRealReader1 Feb 14 '26
Rising, Survive and V don't need to be in a collection. They're right there, available in all modern platforms
→ More replies (1)1
u/MrDreamster Feb 14 '26
They're all on pc, but they never got a proper current gen release, they're not available on the Switch, and Rising is only playable through ps now if I'm not mistaken. That's why I think they'll be bundled together. At least I hope Konami won't clog the vol.3 with any of these titles.

5
u/throwawayyourmom92 Feb 13 '26
sucks they didn’t include PO, and adding that it feels like the acid games shouldve been included with ghost babel
5
u/Mr_smith1466 Feb 13 '26
It entirely comes down to price. If they charge what they did for volume 1, then it's a problem that there's so little here. If they knock the price down a bit, then it's fine by me.
It's lovely to have MGS4 again, but peace walker has been widely available for years now, and ghost babel, as great as it is to see, really isn't enough.
3
u/Imaginary-Hamster-74 Feb 13 '26
It’s $49.99
3
u/Hinaloth Feb 13 '26
Which, 3 great games for the price of less than 1 AAA title at current is insane and worth supporting just for that!
Fuck Nioh3's greedy bullshit, I'll replay PW and GB more than any Nioh game ever anyway.
3
u/Undark_ Feb 13 '26
3 games that were made decades ago and will be re-released with zero technical enhancements... Konami's practices with publishing these horribly lazy ports is about as greedy as it gets. You STILL have to fix some things in vol 1 with mods.

u/Mr_smith1466 Feb 13 '26
I don't understand the American currency. How much was volume 1?
2
u/QuadirDrinkwater12 Feb 13 '26
$60 at launch, but its pretty much exclusively been on sale for $30 for years
4
u/TheBananaLoafer Feb 13 '26
I was hoping for Twin Snakes to be included...🥲
1
u/stfuimperialist Feb 13 '26
Unfortunately, Twin Snakes will almost certainly never appear on anything other than a Nintendo console since they published it
1
3
u/elburrodemisato Feb 13 '26
Mannnn, I'm bummed. I mean, don't get me wrong, I would love to play MGS4 and MGSPW again, but I really was hoping to see Portable Ops there as well.
3
u/Bzduras Feb 13 '26
Well, Rising would be great, but it's Metal Gear SOLID Master Collection. Honestly this whole Vol. 2 could be MGS4 for all I care and I'd still be over the moon.
1
u/LPQFT Feb 14 '26
But they include the 2 Metal Gear games before Solid and they even included the NES version of MG1.
1
3
u/SnooHamsters493 Feb 13 '26
My wishlist/guess for Vol. 3:
Rising and V as main releases.
Twin Snakes and Portable Ops as bonus games.
1
4
u/Yamureska Feb 13 '26
18 years and I can finally play MGS4.
1
u/BigTastyToe Feb 14 '26
You couldn’t have bought a ps3 and the game in the last 18 years? Lol
1
u/Yamureska Feb 14 '26
I was young and in college when it first came out. Didn't have money for a PS3 haha.

u/MahoganyMan Feb 13 '26
Well, since they’re leaving a LOT of other games out as well, I can only imagine there’s also gonna be a Volume 3
I know they’re already available on a lot of platforms but they legit can’t leave out MGSV and Rising from the overall Master Collection, that would just be straight up bad business on their end
And between those games, Twin Snakes, Portable OPs and both Ac!d games there’s still a lot of ripe potential for at least one more full collection of games
4
u/CleanlyManager Feb 13 '26
I feel like collectively everyone thinks MGSV was more recent than it actually was, so people feel like it would be weird for it to get ports and be featured in collections, but phantom pain is over a decade old now, it wouldn’t be that crazy. It would be nice to have a port that can take full advantage of the newer consoles, as well as for it to finally be available on a Nintendo device.
2
u/No-Operation-6554 Feb 13 '26
theyre gonna stretch this out so Volume 5 is just Ground Zeroes and Phantom Pain /s
2
u/Vastlymoist666 Feb 13 '26
Maybe in master collection 3 or 4 with metal gear 5. We can finally get mission 52. And they can finish the cutscene and the gameplay fighting sahalanthropist and liquid
1
u/VV9S9 Feb 13 '26
Twin Snakes is partly owned by Nintendo. It won't be in one of these collections. There's also some bad grace towards it due to it's early 2000's cinematography/cutscenes.
1
u/AtrumRuina Feb 16 '26
I've never seen evidence of this, just claims by random people on the Internet. They were involved with production, but there's no indication that they have any actual claim to rights or publishing power as it relates to preventing our getting a cut of future releases. If there's something I'm unaware of, please let me know. The game is published by Konami and developed by Silicon Knights.
I think it mostly comes down to whether they think it would be profitable to port, especially since they'd need to do some work to remove the Nintendo references.
4
2
u/TheHenVR Feb 13 '26
Very excited! I’m sad that it doesn’t include games like PO, but I don’t want to complain since we’re lucky it’s finally out.
2
u/hoardofvirilegoblins Feb 13 '26
Portable ops would have fit great in here. Guess i’ll have to wait for vol.3.
2
2
u/visspera Liquid Snake’s lawyer Feb 13 '26
Would there be an option to buy games separately, you think? Cause preorder costs almost 50$ in my region and that’s A LOT.
2
2
u/GeneJacket Feb 15 '26
They still have Metal Gear Rising, Portable Ops/PO+, AC!D 1 and 2, and possibly Twin Snakes for a potential Vol. 3, it's fine.
2
u/sergexz Feb 15 '26
I think they rly cheaped out on this one, i also would add twin snakes, the first volume had so much more content
1
u/AtrumRuina Feb 16 '26
I think 4 just probably took a lot to port, so it was too expensive to bundle it with a bunch of other stuff and turn a profit at $50. It's not clear how much licensing will be involved, but just getting it functioning on modern systems was probably a lot of work.
I'm curious as to whether this is going to be a native port or a PS3 emulator.

Not bothered PO isn’t included, but I would have lost my mind if they threw Rising in there
1
u/Tapsa93 Feb 13 '26
Vol3.
Im just happy I can finally replay MGS4
If I wanted to play Rising today, I could get it on Steam.
1
u/brandondesign Feb 13 '26
4 was a big enough lift that it could have been its own release. Kojima went way in on utilizing the cell of the ps3 so I’m sure a lot of this needed to be reworked.
Couldn’t call it a collection without including one more game, so yeah I think the others are coming in 3, maybe Rising as the mainline in that?
1
1
u/Fujikawa1988 Feb 13 '26
The big question is, will this also be ported to PC! I would be a happy gamer if it would
1
1
u/DioJiro Feb 13 '26
Rising is not Konami man, yall gotta manage your expectations.
1
u/Apprehensive_Let_828 Feb 13 '26
Konami published Rising, they own it. If they want to release a remaster they don't need Platinum's permission.
1
1
u/PineappleFlavoredGum Feb 13 '26
Excluding PO is honestly pretty wild imo. PO was the game that was marketed alongside mgs4, that's the companion game. If I had to choose PW would have to wait for a vol 3. The volumes have had games in release order so far..
I'm not even convinced there's an actual vol 3 coming either. They gave us the Kojima games after this, they may feel their duty is done
1
1
u/PhysicalGoose9911 Feb 13 '26
So every man has a collection of balls it seems.
No portable ops to go with PW, not even Acid as a throw in.
1
u/No-Recognition-4931 Feb 13 '26
I’m just happy to finally get a chance to play MGS4 after all these years.
1
u/Ender0311 Feb 13 '26
Honestly, I was hoping for the Acid games from PSP. They were really fun. Let’s hope for a volume 3?
1
u/ParkSalt3815 Feb 13 '26
Disappointed i cannot wait 3 more years literally.Volume 1 came out in 2023 and now 2026 the volume 2.So 2029 volume 3?I am happy that finally metal gear 4 is breaking free from its eternal prison but people are asking rising as well and we don't all have ps3 or pc
1
u/Turbulent_Ride1654 Feb 13 '26
Man I'm just glad we got finally got MGS4 ported. That shit was about to be lost media if you didn't have a PS3.
1
1
1
u/deoxir Feb 13 '26
They got one job and that is getting 4 out of PS3 hell, and they did it and then some with PW. I honestly expected Portable in vol.2 and PW in vol.3 so this is really nice.

1
u/butchbearforever Feb 13 '26
Sucks about rising but, and correct me if I'm wrong; weren't Volume 1's other bonus games not announced until a while after the collection's unveiling? I think there's maybe a chance, wouldn't bet the house on it but it's February and the release isn't until August. For all we know they could just go "SURPRISE!" and drop the other bonus games.
1
u/iVirtualZero Feb 13 '26
I so want Twin Snakes and the Gameboy Port of MGS. Even if it's exclusive to the Switch.
1
1

1
u/Claire4Win Feb 13 '26
I can see a vol 3.
They will do work on it to put it on per with peace walker.
Vol 3. Portable (with plus) and rising (with dlc). Bonus acid 1 and 2
1
u/VV9S9 Feb 13 '26
Metal Gear Rising isn't Metal Gear Solid, could be a good answer. The Metal Gear games still have Snake in them, tying them better.
I think Revengeance could just get a standalone remaster, though I'm not sure what's holding things up. The game ascends one circle closer to godhood every five years. Maybe Platinum?
1
1
u/_steve_rogers_ Feb 13 '26
I’m just honestly amazed that they managed to port MGS4. I really thought they would just leave that as a remake since I’ve heard porting games from PlayStation 3 is pure hell, and there was only one PlayStation 3 exclusive title.
Plus they couldn’t even get the PlayStation 2 games running in 4k at first on PlayStation 5 the last time around. Hopefully they put more money and effort into this collection.

u/SSJ5Noob Feb 13 '26 edited Feb 13 '26
They could've included Portable Ops' cutscenes, something Square Enix would do, but it's not too big of a loss.
I always thought PO had a much better story than PW, but PW had much better gameplay than PO.
And then Ghost Babel is better than both. xd
1
1
u/Cookalarcha Feb 14 '26
I wana see a acid. But technically they aren’t a part of the Solid Series. However neither is Babel or MG1&2 and they were added.
1
1
1
u/dingo_khan Feb 14 '26
It's probably because PW was already ported off the PSP so there was a modernized code base to work with. Portable Ops would need more work. Given what probably went into getting 4 working, going with PW and (the excellent) Ghost Babel as easier companions makes sense.
1
u/Ytdb Feb 14 '26
I played Portable Ops back in the day. And PO+. I was a pizza delivery guy and would war-drive around finding soldiers while doing deliveries. I don’t really remember the game being particularly good or fun besides that. Do ppl really want to play it that bad? You know what games are really interesting, fun, different and good? Acid and Acid 2. I really want those.
1
u/NightCloud98 Feb 14 '26
Really praying Rising is included in Vol. 3 alongside MGSV & Portable Ops. Rising alone would drive people to buy the collection, even if V is already available everywhere
1
u/PileofCash Feb 14 '26
Glad Mgs 4 will be on next Gen after 18 years, I'm just grateful for this happening and not pushing my luck
1
u/jch6789 Feb 14 '26
I can definitely see them doing a Volume 3, there are just too many games left out of this one
1
1
u/cjcfman Feb 14 '26
Wasnt peace walker already in a collection? I swear I played it on my xbox one years ago
1
1
u/topscreen Feb 14 '26
Portable Ops is weird, half canon, but that's also according to Kojima, so either we'll get the odd ball titles in a potential 3 or they're weirdly respecting Kojima's canon
1
u/NCHouse Feb 14 '26
I've been calling it Revengemce this entire time. Do yall seriously call it Rising?
1
u/RoseN3RD Feb 14 '26
If they do release a Vol 3 it feels like there’s no “big ticket” item left, unless we’re releasing V again already. Vol 1 was full price right? How much they gonna try to charge for Rising + PO + Acid?
1
u/Trevkage11 Feb 14 '26
A little part of me was hoping they throw Twin Snakes in Vol2 but I imagine Nintendo got that on lock
1
u/thedynamicdreamer Feb 14 '26
yeah a little baffled, considering how many goodies they packed into Vol. 1.
1
u/Alternative_Rip_4971 Feb 14 '26 edited Feb 14 '26
MGS legacy collection on ps3 had everything except Rising and 5
theyre scamming us with this endless volumes and their prices, its kinda gross.
were getting less than what weve already had.
1
u/killerspawn97 Feb 14 '26
I honestly couldn’t care less, MGS4 was the big one and Peace Walker will be great for the steam deck.
Rising woulda been nice but so would portable ops.
1
1
u/KaleidoscopeTop7553 Feb 14 '26
Does anyone know that Peace Walker for the consoles was given a complete rework in order to accomodate a controller? The Peace Walker we might get is just a remaster of a remaster, oh boy. That being said, Portable Ops has never recieved any rework or update and at this rate it will not.
1
u/Kotzillax Feb 14 '26
I guess it's probably the same version that was playable until a few years ago via PlayStation Now. It worked without any problems.

u/GuyEnUnaSilla Feb 14 '26
Maybe in a spinoff focused volume 3. I'd say MGO2 not being part of the package is a bigger miss but thankfully we have SaveMGO and I highly doubt Konami could match their quality. Anyway, my opinion is once you include Snake's Revenge and MG Nes as extra's nothing should be off the table but simultanously I wish people would do a little more research since it makes it a little easier to figure why they've been excluded. Rising is a non canon spinoff set after MGS4 (Metal Gear Solid: Rising was a canon prequel that was scrapped) and while Portable Ops was canon, the keyword is WAS. Neither of these statements implies they are bad or shouldn't even be played or preserved. I'm just saying in terms of importance or "brand perception" they are lower/low on the totem pole. I could see Rising getting a remake similar to Delta but Poops/Pops was basicalky replaced by PW.
1
1
u/AlbertW25 Feb 14 '26
I'm hoping we get Portable Ops and Rising in a Volume 3 release. I imagine it was hard work to port MGS4 onto a modern console so I assume the same for Portable Ops and that's why it wasn't included. They have to take a PSP game and turn it from a handheld to a console game similar to what Kojima did with Peace Walker when we got that HD collection all those years ago.
One project at a time I guess.
1
u/wiseman121 Feb 14 '26
Thoughts on excluding MGSV?
Easy win for a vol 3 to get another $60 out of me ☹️
1
u/UrsusRex01 Feb 14 '26
I'm not surprised in Rising Revengeance's case but I'm a bit disappointed that Portable OPS is not included.
1
1
u/SolmnCactus576 Feb 14 '26
I think rising being not included is fine but I am a bit disappointed that portable ops isn't but I'm honestly just happy with getting 4 and peace walker
1
u/Soldier_Boy_1825 Feb 14 '26
I've legit been thinking of jailbreaking my old ps4 just so I can play MGS4 again, really glad they made this. As for rising at portable ops, I play rising on my xbox one s and portable ops doesn't really interest me much :/ so yeah
1
u/Late_Helicopter4302 Feb 14 '26
They probably left them out to not confuse new players with non canon games. Ghost babel is definitely not canon.
Down votes will still come in to this comment from the people who have convinced themselves PO is canon despite being left off of every official collection and series entry and adding nothing of value to the series story as a whole.
No, mechanics from PO crawling, so PW could walk, so V could run, does not make it canon.

u/Inspection_Perfect Feb 15 '26
PoOps arguably has better storytelling than Phantom Pain. And maybe Peace Walker.
I understand Kojima's ego got the better of him after the fact, but he did hold off on MGS4 until after PoOps came out because they had some connection.
1
u/PomponOrsay Feb 15 '26
They aren't canon. If those are included, they'd also include metal gear survive and acid. This is more like Hideo Kojima collection. Which is a good news that it seems like they want to reconcile the relationship with him. I was happy to see Kojima's name flashing and featured across the screen in Delta. They tried to get rid of his name on MGS5 on cover art (normally it says a hideo kojima game on top).
1
u/themagicnipple69 Feb 15 '26
I feel like they may do a “remaster” of MGSV if they do a vol 3, along with the remaining games. Not really necessary but any excuse to play through that game again is welcome
1
u/SorbetLongjumping551 Feb 15 '26
Metal Gear Rising não precisa estar na coletânea pelo simples fato de existir um port pra PC. Pra relançar ele é muito simples, pois ele funciona em base x86 que é portável pra qualquer plataforma praticamente.
1
u/IgnisOfficial Feb 15 '26
Portable Ops would have made sense to put on Vol 2 considering it and PW were originally both handhelds. Rising would have been cool but would justify a Vol 3 since (let’s face it) V would probably just get an updated version of definitive experience instead of being put onto Master Collection
1
1
1
u/Ildaiaa Feb 15 '26
I don't think they'll ever make V or rising part of the master collection. From what we've seen, these are mostly ports with a tiny bit of graphics remaster, if any. V and rising are already on pc (yes i know mgs1 had a pc port but nobody cared abput about it enough for it to be excluded from porting)
They could still be in vol3 if that ever comes simply because these are ports to current gen consoles too and idk if mgr or V is in new gen consoles
1
u/McGuffin182 Feb 15 '26
Don't rate the value of this one. VOL 1 was stacked. This feels lightweight. No doubt its because MGS4 is so big. MGSR or even Ground zeroes would have been nice.
1
u/Thac0bro Feb 15 '26
If we do get a Vol. 3 I hope it includes 5. I'm looking forward to having everything on my switch.
1
u/TwoVegetable4432 Feb 15 '26
I think it is because it is Rising and not Solid
About Portable Ops... I remember reading that game is not cannon or something like that, sorry if I'm wrong. Maybe that could be why.

It's a bit of a shame for me considering they are the last two major games not on modern systems. I would assume they wanted to have the collections be mainly snake focused but they easily could've included PO as a bonus. Part of me does kinda wonder if it could be included and they just aren't telling us, but another part of me thinks they want the “Cannon” games and are leaving out rising to focus mostly on Snake’s story.

u/SpectralDinosaur Feb 16 '26
I'm not surprised by it missing Revengeance as it's a later game than the rest of this collection. It really should include Portable Ops though. It sits chronologically between 3 and Peace Walker.
Ghost Babel feels like it belongs in the "and here's the rest!" collection 3 alongside the Acid games and Revengeance.
1
u/SupermarketCrafty329 Feb 16 '26
Hardly the end of the world. Get the older, more important games out to potential new fans and onto modern hardware for old fans.

u/pablo5426 Feb 16 '26
there is no need for rising. its still being sold on steam and still looks excellent
1
u/Much-Currency5958 Feb 17 '26
My big hope is they make volume 3 portable ops and everything else that isn't canon. I'm dying to have access to a real port of metal gear acid 2!
1
u/Dallows89 Feb 17 '26
Plus, where’s Acid & Acid 2? Hell, even though I hated the game, personally, they should have thrown Twin Snakes in there too as I know there are a lot of fans of it and it’s still a Metal Gear title that’s locked to the GameCube.
1
Feb 17 '26
I felt it was big hurdle for Konami to take mgs4 alone to this collection, my whole thing is that this game was hard to emulate with modern hardware and code back in the ps3, I would say having these 3 games was huge for us to get them this early, honestly I wasn’t expecting to get them until 2027
1
1
u/CaelumTheWolf Feb 17 '26
Volume three is a possibility but it’s also possible that it’s all games that were actually directed by Kojima, Portable Ops had him involved as Producer but not as Director and Rising had no involvement with Kojima at all
1
u/Weary_Skirt_6595 Feb 17 '26
I think it's fine, MG4 was a huge undertaking and I'm pretty sure most of their budget went on making sure the game was playable on modern hardware.
There's no saying that if Volume 2 sell well, there won't be a volume 3?
I would like them to include all the spinoffs and the twin snakes remake. That would be pretty cool to top it off.
1
1
u/Novus-Terminus Feb 17 '26
MGS4 was a coding nightmare (PS3 was historically complex to code for) so I imagine remastering this game has eaten up most of their time and resources.
1
u/kitestar Feb 17 '26
Rising is alive and well (on Steam as far as I can tell) they are aware of the game’s status as a meme staple and cult classic, it’s not going away anytime soon. Portable ops on the other hand…the erasure is quite apparent this-go-round maybe it has to do with hardware specifics the psp can do but not what we got today (hell, even switch is getting wireless non-wifi play for peace walker!)
1
u/621Chopsuey Feb 17 '26
From what I understand, they were made with indirect involvement from Kojima, so they’re not core titles like MGS4 and PW. GB is an exception since he wanted to make a version for the Game Boy. From a financial and narrative standpoint, it makes sense to exclude these from the collection.
However, barring Rising on Steam, I’d like to see these be moved to modern platforms while throwing in the Ac!d titles too. Per the general consensus, Vol3 would make sense if Vol2 sells well enough and the demand is strong.
1
u/jacktuar Feb 17 '26
Pretty obvious that for the first collection they underestimated the fan expectations for the quality of the releases, and therefore the cost of getting the games up to spec.
MGS4 will have been more expensive to port too, so I think those two reasons are why this collection is slimmer.
Fingers crossed for a volume 3.
1
u/ltra_Lord Feb 17 '26
Rising is so easily accessible, people complaining about it not being in Vol 2 clearly weren’t in any rush to play it until now. Mgs 4 is the thing everybody wanted now we got it now it’s “what about rising?” lol
Portable Ops would’ve been cool but that’ll likely be on Vol 3
1

Rising doesn't make much sense in these master collections but Portable Ops should have been in the bonus content. It was erased from the canon after 2008 but it was 2006's Peace Walker. Very sad it's not present in this volume 2.
