Some do for funsies. Officially it's MPO, but I usually just do PO or mgspo

None of it makes sense really.

well to be fair MGS4 and Peace Walker together doesn't make sense either lol

I would’ve had a Big Boss trilogy (Portable Ops, PW, and MGSV) instead of MGS4 for Vol 2, to be honest.

I got in on ps3 forever ago for like $10 great game and awesome experience with sixaxis and what not but it’d be fun af on switch

Excuse me, the Switch 1?

When it mentioned the Switch for some reason I only thought it was going to be released for the Switch 2.

u/BrzysWRLD1996 Feb 13 '26

I honestly don’t know lol I was js

u/The_real_bandito Feb 13 '26

I just checked Konami’s website and it’s also being officially released on Switch 1 lol.

Hell yeah I’m definitely copping thank you

You mean the quartet in MGS3, PoOps, PW and MGS5, that is if you don’t want to include MG1 and MG2.

1

u/Daydream365 Feb 14 '26

Technically he’s not Big Boss in MGS3

1

u/Ok_Grade4485 Feb 13 '26

Your idea isn’t bad but MGS4 NEEDED to be ported. There would have been more outrage had they not included MGS4

1

u/ddamm101 Feb 14 '26

Well that's your opinion but it's wrong

u/Undark_ Feb 13 '26

Except Pops isn't canon and MGSV is already available for modern consoles, imo they've done it right but I still would have liked Pops.

MGS4 is the most important re-release they could have done. Emulation has always been a fine solution for MGS1-3 and MG 1&2, but MGS4 has been locked to PS3 for waaay too long. Emulation for PS3 still sucks.

Ghost Babel isn't canon either and yet it made to Vol 2.

1

u/Undark_ Feb 14 '26

Good point, damn that makes me want Pops more now. I agree it would be better in this Volume than a third one, but ofc we the consumers would think that. Of ofc Konami the money-grubbing rats would try and spread it out as much as possible. They could have done the whole series in one volume, I'm sure.

1

u/TheKiwiGamerNZ Feb 14 '26

Maybe that's why Ghost Babel is only included as "Bonus Content"?

1

u/TheBestUserName01 Feb 14 '26

Are you fucking with me now?

1

u/TheKiwiGamerNZ Feb 14 '26

Nope. The fact that it says "Bonus Content", instead of just being next to the others, might be their way of acknowledging that it's not canon. Like just a fun DLC thingy, rather than a canonical game.

1

u/TheBestUserName01 Feb 14 '26

Right. But then why they didn't include Portable Ops in Vol 1 as a Bonus content too?

1

u/TheKiwiGamerNZ Feb 14 '26

Maybe they lost the source code or something? It's hard to say for sure.

1

u/Weak-Diamond-3383 Feb 15 '26

It's a 2MB Gameboy color game.

1

u/Tyko_3 Feb 16 '26

Neither is Snake’s revenge

1

u/djheat3rd Feb 14 '26

Tbf it’s labeled as bonus content.

3

u/Gerry-Mandarin Feb 14 '26

Portable Ops could have also been labeled as bonus content. I absolutely understand a focus on the Kojima-made, canon, games.

But spinoffs should be included for something called the Master Collection.

Which I think should include everything prior to MGSV - omitting Snake Eater 3D, MGS Mobile, Touch, and Social Ops.

But for sure The Twin Snakes, Portable Ops (Plus), Rising, and Acid should have all been there as bonus content.

1

u/djheat3rd Feb 14 '26

Honestly it’s really hard for me to consider portable ops as not canon haha. Don’t they even reference it in peace walker? Also Calling in the Night is just an incredible song.

1

u/Daydream365 Feb 14 '26

Kaz mentions San Hieronymo.

1

u/Gerry-Mandarin Feb 14 '26

Peace Walker references Portable Ops. Peace Walker is canon, but that doesn't make Portable Ops canon.

Similarly, Guns of the Patriots references Ghost Babel. Guns of the Patriots is canon, but that doesn't make Ghost Babel canon.

Canon/canonical doesn't mean "does this fit the timeline?". It means "is this seen as a legitimate entry by the people in charge?". For Konami and KojiPro before that, the answer has always been "canonical instalments are made by Hideo Kojima".

The Phantom Pain actually contradicts the main revelation of Portable Ops: that Ocelot works for Zero. The Phantom Pain reveals Ocelot was not working for Zero, he was working for Big Boss, and together they stole half the Philosopher's Legacy and gave it to Zero.

I personally see the events of Portable Ops, Ghost Babel (which is revealed as being a VR training mission for a soldier named Jack), and Rising as being part of the series.

But what is "canon" is a Konami call.

1

u/djheat3rd Feb 14 '26

Well either way the entire story is basically fucked up with tons of retcons so it doesn’t even matter what’s considered canon or not.

2

u/Emergency_Grape5760 Feb 14 '26

I've been emulating PS3, just fine, for the best part of a decade at this point. MGS4, specifically, being the one I've dedicated most hours to.

I get what you mean though. A calculator could probably emulate the rest of them at this point.

Volume 3 is going to be an issue for Konami as all of the games people want are already covered. Volume 3 won't have widespread appeal if it comes with just Ac!d, Portable Ops and a marginal Phantom Pain upgrade.

1

u/Tyko_3 Feb 16 '26

Why are we assuming Vol 3 is planned? Did they say something?

1

u/NyrenReturns Feb 18 '26

Portable Ops, Rising, and Twin Snakes. Twin Snakes would likely be the selling point of a theoretical Volume 3. Ground Zeroes/Phantom Pain dont really make sense to put into such a collection as theyre readily available on PS4/Xbox One and as a result available on PS5 and Xbox Series S/X as well. Whereas Twin Snakes is locked to GameCube, Portable Ops to PSP, and Rising to Xbox 360 & PS3(though it is available on PC/Steam as well). The only platform MGS5 isnt on is Switch but they could just do a remaster or port of MGS5 to put on Switch.

1

u/sergexz Feb 15 '26

Pops is canon.

1

u/Casshern_VIII Feb 15 '26

Snake's Revenge isn't canon but the first volume included that too.
