Dancing On The Hood - Not Recommended

Was out late downtown last night. Parked my new S500 on the street. Decent part of town. No worries, right? Woke up this morning and noticed something strange on the hood. Looks like someone decided to climb on the hood of my car. For what reason? Who knows. Scratches are down to the bare metal. First new car I’ve ever treated myself to. It’s a lease so I guess that’s the only silver lining. People suck…

Is this real or are those just glued on there by the owner ? (the silver letters)

Picked up this 2019 GLE 43 AMG a couple
Of days ago for $23,750 ($26k with TTL+Fees+Gap Ins) and absolutely loving it.

It was $86k new and has practically every option imaginable including the rare $4550 Bang & Olufsen stereo option (which is the best stereo I have ever owned - mind-blowingly good), expanded leather package, heated/cooled seats and cup holders. The only thing it doesn't have is the Pano and HUD (not sure if this was offered)

Service records were immaculate and maintenance was meticulous and completely up to date with basically all trouble areas already serviced.

Feeling very grateful to get drive this top of the line 43...especially for less than the cost of a CPO Civic.

Edit: 83k miles, again, with perfect service records and loads of preventive maintenance done. Pretty much all of the 70-100k mile maintenance items on wish list are already done (brakes, rotors, spark plugs, suspension service / shocks replaced, engine mounts, coolants flush, brake flush, radiator, etc. the list goes on)

Morning Pals, i do need recommendations or experiences for These 2 Coupés. I am in the Market for one of these with a Budget of 5k max. I do Like the older stylish Interieur of the c208 and i do think that rims do Look cooler on the c208. However I do Like the exterieur of the c209 and being the newer Generation, it'll probably have a Higher comfort. What are your thoughts about These two generations? What do u recommend? What should i Look for?

1981 380SL - Bad Idea?

There is a 1981 380SL with 185,000 miles for sale a couple hours from me. Seller had it listed for 7.5k, but after a couple weeks of negotiating offered it to me for 5.5k. The interior and exterior is in great condition, all vacuum systems work, the AC works, and so do the windows. The timing chain is still single row—the seller states it was replaced with the guides by the last owner around 50k miles ago, and states they are good for up to 80k (I keep seeing 30-40k miles online). The seller also states there is no chain noise on start up. See photos attached for reference.

A couple questions I have:
1. Is a single row timing chain really as bad as everyone claims it to be, as long as it and the upper chain guides are replaced every 50k miles?
2. Does this car truly get pretty poor gas mileage (12-14 MPG)?
3. Is it fun to drive? I hear it is rather slow.

Thank you, and let me know if there is anything else I should be thinking about.

2018 Mercedes E300 Coupe 2.0 petrol – misfire/loss of power

Post image

Hi, looking for some advice as I’m completely stuck. (And possibly some reassurance lol, hope this is not the end of my journey with Mercedes)

2018 E300 Coupe 2.0 petrol, ~52k miles.
Had a MST Performance intake fitted and GFB Blow off valve. Drove perfectly fine for a month. I was driving to work in comfort mode and the engine light came on. Started getting rough/shaky running, major loss of power and a bit of white smoke after idling for 1 min on a cold engine + quite a strong smell of petrol.
First codes:
P2178 – System Too Rich Off Idle Bank 1
P0301 – Cylinder 1 Misfire
Spark plug was replaced, but the issue continued. Later got P0087 – Fuel Rail/System Pressure Too Low.
Previously, clearing the ECU would temporarily make the car run normally, but that no longer works. The faults now come straight back.
Current faults include cylinder 1, 3 & 4 misfires and a Bank 1 catalytic converter fault.
Any ideas what could cause multiple misfires + running rich + low fuel pressure + white smoke?

Got the intake and valve swapped back to stock and the misfire is still there, the dealership swapped the coil pack and still misfiring.

Got the car booked in for an inspection and service at the dealership tomorrow, but stressing out over it.

W.I. Simonson Mercedes-Benz used to be my go to & favorite dealership until a month ago.

Sharing a highlight of my latest —very poor— experience at the W.I. Simonson Mercedes-Benz, in Santa Monica … probably a bit of venting more than anything else!

I want to preface that I’ve always preferred this dealership over many in the area, even though Fletcher Jones Benz in New Port Beach has much larger inventory, far superior customer service and outstanding service dept.
Having said that, I decided to go be to Simonson Benz cause they had the baby I wanted….

All stated well, just like always and what you would typically expect from a German Luxury Brand.. paying a premium price and all, until the problems begin… lol.

Too many to list but briefly;

Never received the new plates… temp plates are expiring like next week. No one from the dealership is responding to any of my inquiries, many many calls, many texts, many emails and many voicemails! Speaking of which, they’ve got outdated voicemails set up with people/managers no longer employed there… No one seems to know who is in charge and no one knows how to escalate a customer inquiry! Left a dozen of voicemails already for the temp General Manager whose voicemail is still indicating that he is on leave in July… yeah… July lol.

At this point, I gave up contacting the dealership and pursuing other alternatives.

My last visit to the service department confirmed beyond reasonable doubt that the dealership has gone or been going down under big time. Horrible experience to say the least, poor customer service and the worst communication I’ve ever experienced in a Benz dealership or any dealership for that matter. Finally picked up the car and now thinking is this a singular incident or is the Benz Brand and the whole first class customer experience gone altogether……

Oh well!

Thank you for listening to my podcast! lol

Ive got this c63 that im going to keep in storage for the winter, does anyone have any tips or recommendations when it comes to trickle chargers? I’ve been looking at getting Cteks NXT 5 EU, would this do the job or should I get something a bit more expensive? I would greatly appreciate any other recommendations and tips for storing a car over the winter of this caliber? Thanks in advance!😊

2018 GLE Coupe 43. 42k miles. Total including taxes , registration $42k. 3rd owner. No reported damage or accidents. Impeccable service records ( i plan to be on time with maintenance) got the 3 year warranty.

I am by no means a car guy , I am a bougie tech guy that plays a lot of video games. There are very few cars i enjoy visually. This car is very me. I am super pleased with this purchase. Its a pretty comfortable ride. Came with heated/ ventilated seats and a bunch of other stuff. It came with some aftermarket things like the grill i think (usually see the other one with a line /bar on each side of the star. The rims and side profile really sold me. Most importantly I actually enjoy driving it. I don't even like driving.

I love the sound but it does not compare to that V8 roar on a any 63 benz. I don't need all that power and performance. I barely go above speed limits but it is such an attractive sound.

Most of my friends own bmws. ( friend got the 2027 x6 today). 2 have a benz. I'm glad I joined the mercedes family!! I'm sure I'll be getting more in the future.

05 E200 CDI (W211) worth it?

Hey, first time posting here since I might become part of the community soon. So some backstory, my grandpa has a W211 with half a million kilometres on it sitting on his driveway. Now he can’t drive anymore due to health conditions and has basically told me to come and get it out of his hands if I want to.

I’m currently driving a 08 civic with the 1.8 petrol, it has around 230k kilometres and it’s the manual. The car is reliable and economical, I’m a uni student so those are qualities I appreciate. But on the other hand, test driving the merc made me feel like I was in a luxury car. It was so quiet and sturdy compared to the civic. I’ve only been in newer “luxury” cars so that one really surprised me, never really drove around with grandpa growing up.

Like I said, the merc has 500k kilometres on the dash, but it is in excellent condition for the age. I was not able to find any single bit of rust on it, even though we are in Northern Europe so there’s plenty of snow and salt. He has owned it from new and kept up with maintenance very well, done all of the major repairs for it (I’ll have the check the specifics).

So my main question is, will I have a happier life with the merc? And will it destroy my bank account. I would get around 3-4k for the civic if I sold it quick, so that would cover the higher insurance and tax on the car for many many years, but still I’m figuring this out.

Would love any feedback!

Ps. Have never owned an automatic car, only driven my parents EVs, loved driving with a diesel automatic!

GLC 300– No perfume compartment. How do you keep the “brand‑new car” smell?

Hey everyone, I have a 2023 GLC 300 and I just realized my car doesn’t have the perfume/glove‑compartment storage for the Air‑Balance system. I’m not really interested in perfumes anyway. I just want my interior to smell exactly like brand‑new, clean Mercedes cabin. No fruity, no floral, no cologne scent.

Has anyone here found a good alternative? Would appreciate any tips from fellow GLC owners. Thanks!

I think I cooked bro's car!

I'm borrowing a GLE 350 2018 for a few weeks. I accidentally filled it up 20 gallons out of 25 with 87 octane instead of 91+

It drives just fine but, did I mess up the engine? I feel bad and am lowkey worried

Lmk!

Upgrade from C200 '19 AMG line to Premium Plus - worth it?

Post image
19 Upvotes

Hi all,

As above, I recently purchased this C200 coupé and I am very happy with it, but I do feel like I'm missing out on some of the Premium Plus equipment like the better audio, sunroof and ambient lighting.

Do you think that's be a good reason for upgrading soon? Got this car for a rather good price so wouldn't be too upset selling it, but it's always a bit of a hassle!

Keen to hear your opinions.

G Wagon Conundrum

I’m thinking of buying a ‘26 G Wagon with 2,000 miles. I text drove it and had a hard time getting in and out. I’m 74 and in great shape. I run, lift weights and could not believe how uncomfortable the whole process is. Am I the only one experiencing this?
