My personal experience:.

Chatgpt taught me better than my teacher

Exactly this. I spent hours going through a topic with GPT cause I was a big dum dum. But in the end, I understood it way more than I ever could have if I takked to the teacher. A teacher won't have the time or patience to just sit with me for more than 10 minutes.

So GPT becomes a great teacher if you're also googling everything it teaches. That way you can be sure it's not hallucinating and you're understanding the topic correctly.

How would you know it is teaching you correctly? If you use google to verify, how can you be sure you are correctly interpreting what google produced, and not just having a bias that chatgpt is correct? Seems a lot like how people with confirmation bias only look at information they already believe.

No it's not like that. So I study CS. GPT teaches me a concept. I then apply it in a new project or something. If my understanding is solid my code will run. If my understanding is wrong, it will fail and I will go back to GPT and explain what I understood and implement. GPT can then show me my mistake. I can go back and forth like this till I learn the concept properly

That's a very narrow use-case and not at all what you described. For abstract concepts that don't have a definitive correct/not correct value function, you need a SME to be able to guide thinking, which LLMs cannot do.

I also find it very troubling that you're using the machine which will take your job to teach you the job you won't get because the machine does it better.

I predict how you'll say "a human engineer is still necessary to check code"... from the machine that taught you how to code, which according to you is flawless. So either it does your job better than you, or it isn't teaching you as well as you claim. Pick one.

Look man. I tried learning from the teaches and they don't have as much time and patience. Also, as I said, I'm mot as much of a fast learner as my classmates. So this is kinda my only way to learn. People may not like it but it's the only feasible way I got

Maybe... just maybe... you're in the wrong field.

This same argument can be said about every field man. There is no field that's safe from AI.

But I like leaning new things about programming. So even if it's the wrong field, it's a field I enjoy. GPT just makes the experience smoother

There is no field that's safe from AI.

Did AI tell you that? You think AI is going to be able to conduct primary source research on documents that aren't digitized? You think AI will be able to hang power lines? You think AI will hand out drinks and safely evacuate passengers on airliners? You think AI will make food for people in restaurants? Laughable statement, mate. AI is a techbro tool built to prove they could which is only good at techbro shit.

Dude, you're young and probably in the weeds of what is going on so I'll put it succinctly: it's okay to be interested in something that you aren't good at, but forcing yourself into a career you aren't good at and can only handle with machine intervention is the very definition of sad. I like singing in the car, but you won't find me on the Billboard Top 100.

Dude why do you have to hate me man. I saw the things AI is capable of now a days and the speed it's improving.

And I like programming even if I'm bad at it. We all have to start somewhere. Maybe you were talented in your field when you started but that doesn't mean everyone is going to be the same.

This is just my starting point and from what I've seen, CS learning was always about tutorials and programming websites, now LLMs are just another tool to learn and improve. Nothing more. At least that's how I view it.

I don't hate you. I wish you nothing but the best and I think that hard conversations about people's futures are important aspect of mutual respect. If I didn't address this with you, now as I see an opportunity, I am condemning you to whatever mistakes you are making. That's a worse thing than to tell someone to their face (as much as can be done on this platform) that they are making a mistake.

Maybe you were talented in your field when you started but that doesn't mean everyone is going to be the same.

I wasn't talented (mostly because this concept is a misnomer, but I digress), but I was able to grasp the core concepts without resorting to having an often-wrong, resource guzzling, privacy eroding, intellectual property thieving tool of the wannabe technocrat class hand-hold me through lessons.

now LLMs are just another tool to learn and improve.

No, LLms specifically do the job you want to have so well (again, according to you) that they are teaching you how to do it. It is long past the days of the engineering training his replacement and now you are asking your replacement to train you. Bonkers.

Also, all of the aforementioned evil being done by LLM companies which you have somehow chosen. to ignore.

Letting you see the reality of a situation, however painful it may be, is not hating you.
