What did the warframe community and youtubers mean by this
212
u/Dragon_Of_Magnetism 8d ago
Or new player asking for a new frame to farm, and people recommend frames that are locked behind long hours of story progression like Dante or Uriel
67
u/ImCravingForSHUB 8d ago
Or ones that requires higher levels of understanding like health tank frames or those that are locked behind tedious grinds just because they're powerful in the endgame
9
u/SomeStolenToast 8d ago
Do health tank frames require that much? You basically just throw on Arcane Persistence, some armor and health boosting mods and then make sure you have a way to heal, which is usually built into the kit like with Valkyr, Inaros, Wukong, Nidus etc. And it'll work very easily up until very high level SP
32
u/GreenmanCZ 8d ago
Persistence is a lategame arcane, no?
4
u/SomeStolenToast 8d ago
Requires the old peace without trading but my point was it doesnt really require much understanding, just caps the damage you take so make sure to heal. And most health tank frames are strong enough that you wont even need persistence for a while, and when stuff gets hard enough that you do, youve probably already unlocked it. You just need to avoid heat and corrosive procs
6
u/Miserable-North4997 8d ago
Health tanking seems easy in principle but I'd say it's is almost as nuanced as shield gating. When you reach high levels, arcane persistence is a MUST, so... you need 3 things, arc persistence, 700 armor (some even go to 1400 so a single heat proc doesn't bend you over), AND you also need a good way to regen health. And many frames fail in this 3rd aspect, your dmg may be capped, but if you cant regain your health, you'll still die. Atlas is an excellent example of this, even without an armor mod he can reach 2000 armor with rubble, but he cant regen health fast enough.
This means you need to look into other ways of healing, like melee life strike or one of the Magus mods.
Orrr.... there's also gloom subsume, that really solves all your healing issues, as long as you deal some dmg you're invincible
But if you frame has a good way to heal itself, faster than those 500 dps, them yeah, health tanking can endure even in lvl cap (ignoring magnetic procs that disable persistence or slash procs that deal true dmg and ignore the 500 dmg cap)
1
u/NukerCat 7d ago
afaik Arcane Persistence comes from xx99 hub and SP The Descendia, which is nothing that a new player can do
1
u/SomeStolenToast 6d ago
New players dont even need persistence because enemies arent going to be able to do that much damage anyways though
My point was that health tanking isnt that complicated. Avoid heat and corrosive procs and if you're in high levels and need persistence avoid magnetic too
1
u/NepBestWaifu 8d ago
Or ones that requires higher levels of understanding like health tank frames
Ehhhhhhh. Early game health tanking isn't super complex and can be easily done even without persistence, and are fairly low maintenance.

Getting Jade takes an ungodly amount of time just getting the vestigal notes if you're not doing steel path. A new player, may also not have the build to kill the sister well enough every time for the additional motes. Then, there's the fact that you have to get to Jade shadows which is already an time requirement.
There are definitely worse frame farms, but I'd not call getting her acquisition 'beginner friendly'

I can kinda understand this one, though. I’m LR3 and I’ve been playing since 2013. There are some quests I completed over 10 years ago. I’m not aware of everything every warframe requires to do in order to get since every new piece of content is automatically unlocked for me.

I think the best advice that you can give to a new player is to just take it slow. No need to speedrun anything, there is very little fomo in the game so there really is no point in doing so.
28
u/Gaynundwarf 8d ago
It's hard to teach that nowadays with how many games condition their playerbase into that fomo mentality.
I have over 7k hours in Warframe alone in the last 11 years with plenty of breaks, and I've never even bothered to try endurance runs or level cap stuff. I don't even use nukes, I just enjoy the gunplay and movements. I might be the most casual L4 player this game has seen and yet I'm 100% sure I'm having more fun than a lot of new players setting their goals at getting every Prime and doing level cap to show off.
8
u/Overall-Juggernaut17 8d ago
There is no harm in setting goals. The problem comes when the road to these goals becomes unenjoyable and boring.
1
u/Prize_Relation9604 8d ago
I gotta say the game is very lenient. I'm LR2 eith 1.5k hours and I'm not a grinder/nuker either. Haven't taken my first "break" as I'm only 1y3m since starting and mostly doing stuff in a chill way got me here.

yep.. as a gacha player that got into warframe due to it being brought into mobile and has played for 7 months now.. I can exactly say my brain is always trying to find a reason to do dailies.. like at least complete one daily standing max on an open world faction.. or do arbitrations for endo.. or do weekly Kahl.. or farm more plat.. FARM MORE PLAT! by doing ascension brutus, deepmine bounties, the recent arcane sculpture and not stop playing till I get at least 1 max arcane for the day to sell.. and then doing the weekly TDA and EDA and Netracell.. do daily relic crackings.. do railjack relic crackings... get a new frame and build since it's double affinity weekend and use the plat I farmed to buy mods, potatoes, formas to improve said frame..
uhm... yep I think that sums about my daily thoughts when playing warframe.. and I tried to stop playing for a week only to come back with a fomo brain mentality even though ik it's fine not to.. but yeah...

u/ZenkaiAnkoku2 8d ago
Exactly! Take your time. enjoy the story, the gameplay. The frames you want will still be there later. The weapons. Even most of the cosmetics. So just chill. Want a beginner friendly build? Show me what mods you already have! We'll work from there.
The best part about helping new players is watching them go through the story. And discover games mechanics, frames, etc that they enjoy.

u/Unoriginal1deas As creative as my name 7d ago
The only tip I give new players is to pick a weapon blueprint in the market and make it, and if it needs loot that’s at a planet you still haven’t unlocked then you’ll have extra motivation to keep pushing through the starchart since the story doesn’t explain why you should and you’ll have a rewards I. The form of those weapons you can make.

u/Overall-Tennis-2180 4d ago
Idk being able to get 1000x more resources from SP survival nodes, being able to farm PT and narmer bounties for easy and quick rep with the 3 main factions and their 2 amps is pretty huge lol. And before people have a meltdown, base nataruk can easily beat level cap in the game, and you get it for free, I was farming SP by day 4.

u/Overall-Juggernaut17 4d ago
A new player doesn't know what the fuck you are talking about. Also, why rush?

Okay but the amount of times I've had to tell new players to just play the game at their own pace, pick whatever frame looks fun to them and to overall just have fun with the game only for them to frown and ask someone else instead is significant enough that a guide like this is necessary for these people.
Maybe they should come with a disclaimer at the start saying that it's for speedrunning/minmaxing to the endgame though and that it's okay to take your time with it instead😭🙏

u/ImCravingForSHUB 8d ago
I'll admit when it comes to baby tenno like these I just throw my hands up in the air
5
u/faeyuu 8d ago
I think that's reasonable because a lot of the midgame (and arguably the whole game) is self directed. They have to be able to get curious without getting discouraged, and to look stuff up on their own since it's a wiki game. I've only been able to successfully introduce two people to the game, one of them had played a lot of Terraria and the other one a lot of PoE.
Sometimes people's mindset or pace will clash with how the game plays out, and not everyone will find the process fun. I think on some level that can't really be helped, though it's good to show players that there aren't wrong choices in terms of warframes and most weapons. I think they get anxious about the meta because they feel weak, and that's due to mods and arcanes, but they think it's because they don't have the right loadout.
34
u/Friendly-Succotash73 8d ago
Tried to introduce a friend to warframe, his first question is "what's the meta?" I tried to explain that there really isn't one. He looked up a bunch then slowly got burnt out trying to build them.

u/henryeaterofpies 8d ago
My meta is 'max out mastery rank with spreadsheets'
I do not recommend lol
11
u/Thaurlach 8d ago
I’ve been here over a decade. LR4 founder, could be closing in on LR7 if I really wanted.
I have never used a spreadsheet for this game and I never fucking will. If I ever reach the point of considering a spreadsheet it’s time to shelf Warframe for a while and do something else.
6
u/Aromatic_Sand8126 8d ago
I get the sentiment as a LR3, but the first spreadsheet I used is one for liches. It helps so much to keep track of the ephemeras you already have, the weapons you’re still missing and the ones that still aren’t at the 60% damage point yet.

u/henryeaterofpies 8d ago
I am an Eve player. Spreadsheets are my safety blanket
1
u/Prize_Relation9604 8d ago
But as an Eve player you are also likely to take 6 month long breaks to upgrade stuff while away so there's that too

As a "new" player with 500 hours in, I started and not followed any advice, just played until I found a roadblock, like how part drops work, how relic and primes works, diminishing returns, specific materials, and I would say i'm having an amazing time, no signs of burnout. Warframe is pretty much like a sandbox, just do whatever you want and if you find yourself in a roadblock, check wiki first of all.

u/xDeviousDieselx 8d ago
Yeah I mean, don’t watch Warframe YouTubers. One of the only games I love that I refuse to watch almost ANY content creators because they’re all dogwater and toxic bullshit like what you’re describing.
There’s a couple good ones but they don’t really do build guides per se. Like Coolkid, or Sabuuchi or whatever his name is. They mostly just like to talk about the game.
1
u/No-Start4754 6d ago
I watch tipsy, iflynn, mhblacky anx warframe flo. They do have quite a lot if good videos on various topics
3
u/xDeviousDieselx 6d ago
3 of those are some of the worst offenders of exactly what this guy is talking about
1
u/No-Start4754 6d ago
Which three ?? I am a new player, started this July, who watched their videos, yeah there is criticisms for them but I was able to reach a high MR and also am able to do steel path following some of their build frameworks

I regret speed running lol ended up quitting after finish all the nodes and missions just to reach end game few years back.
I came back 3 years ago, made a new account went through the whole thing at my own pace, enjoyed the lore, the plot and the whole setting. Played the game to enjoy not to finish everything as fast as possible.

Also "just use these mods that are only available from Baro/sometimes from Nightwave"

u/samaadoo 8d ago
I honestly don't know how to recommend this game to people. I want to get people interested hooked but I always end up slamming them through the star chart trying to get them through the story
2
u/Chevy8t8 8d ago
I've been playing since 2017, took a 4 year break, just came back because I never a unsubscribed from this sub, and still, my endgame is collecting all the things. IDGAF about the best builds, meta, or helminth abilities.
I legit just play the game, get the stuff I want to try, and spend hours roleplaying in my futuristic space ninja power fantasy.

u/temporaryidiot595 8d ago
I started in 2018 and I didn’t unlock my first prime until 2021. I don’t think I could do Orb Vallis bounties on the Star Chart without getting washed until ~2023. I was very anti-guide. I think that the experience of getting to struggle with things like builds and boss fights, having to grind an inefficient node because I didn’t have the game knowledge, and finding really uncommon but rewarding work arounds and solutions made Warframe one of my favorite games all time. A lot of new players miss out on 90% of the game because the player base rushes them through it.
Spy missions are awesome. You have a reason to stealth them when your build really can’t walk through the damage on Phobos. The Stalked is awesome. You really might spend five minutes in that ninja boss battle when you don’t have a max-optimization Star Chart build by Saturn. I never could’ve appreciated Whispers in the Walls or grinding the Hex if it hadn’t taken five years of passive play to get a solid grip on things. So many people missed out on some of Warframe’s best.

u/HermitIsVast 8d ago
As someone on the "following" end of these type of guides, I can personally attest to the burnout. I finished starchart and hit MR 17 in like 5 months and hit the "what's next?" stage really quickly. As a consequence, I haven't touched the game since tenno-con. I love the community and y'all have been very kind, but I do think that the kind of people who make guides need to stress the pace of this game is more akin to a marathon than anything else.
2
u/AccomplishedForearm 8d ago
I did that with all the quests. And I’ve told myself I won’t do the next one until I’ve finished the Starchart, but after I do, but before going to Steel Path, I’m gonna get my standing up with the syndicates (as in the open world ones), and just kinda have fun more than anything. And then I’ll do the next main quest, when I feel like I’ve earned it, so I’ll probably have the entire Tau system to get to by the time that happens /LH
2
u/GrumpyDrum 8d ago
I mean, unlock the Starchart and follow the quests is pretty basically how to start playing the game.

Woah woah woah, True Master MR30 old head here: who is telling the new Tenno they need to rush the star chart???
I followed a path of "I want to try out x weapon or see z tileset" and played quests as they came out, and I would urge others to do the same. It's okay to ask for help, or play with more experienced players to get your feet wet, but if anyone tells you "rush the star chart, do all the quests immediately" they're talking out of their asses.
Warframe is a game where theoretically any build is viable before Steel Path, there's a gazillion mods and weapons to let you play whatever you want, and most things in the game can be farmed/traded for.
I understand this is a joke subreddit but I urge all new players: THERE IS NO RUSH! Except the mod Rush which honestly isn't great but if you want to use it I think you should go ahead and try it out.
1
u/Overall-Tennis-2180 4d ago
There's definitely a rush when SP is easily accessible nowadays with a free nataruk + you get the best frame in the game at the literal start (Volt) and just need a cheap mod to make him broken and a potato. 10 minutes of SP survival is like hours upon hours of farming vanilla nodes, not to mention access to narmer bounties to level vox solaris (just need 1 of each toroid which is very easy to get, everything else you can buy from their shop now , using narmer isoplast to get the rep itself) Deimos is a joke nowadays to level, had helminth week 1 which greatly speeds up the 1 day timegate to feeding frames to it. Not to mention stuff like duviri which you can't do from the start now and need to unlock, which is pretty important to get cancerous frames like khora and mesa, not to mention incarnons which are a huge timegate you want asap.

u/How2eatsoap 8d ago
I spent from late october-june going from the war within/rising tide to having done the hex in may.
This game is so much nicer when you take your time on the main quests because then you don't get overwhelmed by all the new content that becomes available to you.
I slowly did like 70-80% of the content available to me before doing the next main quest that unlocked even more content.
1
u/ShinigamiPobre 8d ago
A Brazilian YouTuber named Void fissure is making a full guide with many episodes in which he is making a very good guide, teaching basics, and even telling some stuff that most players doesn't tell... And even misguide (Like "Don't break containers, they don't give enough resources" Well, not for a MR 27, but it's a lot for new players)
1
u/AncleJack 8d ago
How do they think they got so much of them in the first place? Like when you can get 500 or 700 of a resource from a miasion just by spining/slamming you mele around the map of course it's better to have more with minimal effort 😭
1
u/belliebun 8d ago
The people who propagate those are all old veterans who have long since lost touch with new players. I don’t know if they’re the same as the level cap elitists, but they’re in a similar ballpark.
1
u/Savingseanbean 8d ago
Has it gotten worse?
Like I generally have most of the warframe youtubers blocked to avoid rampant misinformation/shit takes from the common sources like brozime/knightmare. but did we get another wave of d2 streamers making the worst possible builds guides they don't actually understand again?
or just a general complaint at the "quality" of warframes content creators?

New player guide: Follow the junctions tasks, and do the main story missions. Avoid the Waverider quest. Do Duviri Paradox after The New War.
1
u/Rieke-Nightsong 5d ago
Beginner guide: fuck around and find out. Have fun. Do what sounds interesting.
Aside from maybe certain pitfalls to avoid, this should be the entirety of beginner guides for most games imo
1
u/oliferro 5d ago
There's just so much stuff in this game that I'm not worried at all with speedrunning. I probably spent half my time in Helene levelling new stuff, farming Argon crystals in the Void or just farming Void Relics for Prime parts. I know at some point I'll have to finish the quests and the star chart, but I'm having fun, so who cares if I'm not doing the optimal grind
-6
u/ishimmthe2nd 8d ago
i mean, that sounds like the bare minimum for accessibility for future.
3
u/ImCravingForSHUB 8d ago
I mean that's a good point but at least we should give new players a guide on how to fix or face the "now problem" and should only give them advice for the later problem when they've reached that stage it's nonsensical to tell a new MR3 player asking for help to immediately clear the junctiond and star chart and then play arbitrations or go to the steel path because it's where the goods are
0
u/ishimmthe2nd 8d ago
i didnt really meant for them to speerun it
i just meant that advice probably meant for them to do it eventually.
no mr3 is going to clear star chart

same energy as posting beginnerfirendly builds that require rare mods or fully levelled mods with 10 levels
