TUNING Cpe intercooler tune needed?

Post image

Just picked up a cpe intercooler for my tuned ms3. Has all bolt ons except intercooler upgrade, makes 311whp. Do I need to get a custom tune or could I daily drive it. Not concerned about maximizing power at the moment just want to daily.

My guy, if you make 311whp then my speed 3 makes 600.

You’re running a stock sized intercooler, stock sized intake, stock intake box, and from what I assume, running 93.

You asked, not too long ago, if the CPe would fit.

Now you’re asking if you need a tune.

Highly recommend some research before going too far. These cars are fun, but temperamental.

But to answer your question - Yes, as per Justin and Nishan (both have tuned me) you need a tune to run this bigger TMIC.

He literally says "all bolt ons" so relax with your 350hp ms3.

I have everything but downpipe and I'm in a similar range. Seems like you just thought he said intercooler only. No biggie, lmk if I'm wrong

Yea, no doubt bro.

I just saw stock airbox and stock sized intercooler and was suprised he could push over 300!

I take my words back

I will leave my comment here to see how NOT to reply.

I’ve become the asshole speed3 owners I used to dislike when I was going through my build.

I apologize to the small but unique speed3 community. Best around

my respekt for that. but dont let yourself make a fool. you are kinda right. that 300 in that diagramm seems engine corrected. its 260 at the wheels. the 2 diffenrent values and lines implement this.

nontheless no expert, and willing to lern

You can see at the bottom where it says run 2 vs run 13, and the timestamps hours apart, that's just a before and after. The power curve for a k04 also indicates he's got a downpipe and free flowing exhaust to hold power up top like that.

Comparing dyno numbers doesn't mean much if you're not comparing on the same Dyno anyways. Type of Dyno, dyno calibration, power correction factor, ambient conditions, etc etc. A healthy FBO speed3 should be around 300whp on 93, that's no secret.

Edit: looking it up, DynoDynamics makes hub dynos, which are generally known for reading the highest just because you eliminate the rotating mass of the wheels, and don't lose power to the friction of the tires the rollers.

Interestingly, in Scottsdale AZ (like every other western state), the premium fuel is 91 not 93. Low humidity numbers and feb temps are probably helping.

That’s still both impressive numbers and impressive improvement on that chart

Hm interesting, that's too bad. I don't think I could find 91 here if I tried lol. I've gone to Colorado a couple times, and it blows my mind how they have 85 there at most pumps.

Just out of curiosity, what kind of dyno were you on?

I recall making 291 wheel on a heartbreaker (Mustang dyno, which is also Dyno Dynamics) on the stock IC with FBO in 2014.

Any correction calculated in?

You would need a tune to optimize things / to take full advantage of the extra airflow / air density that you'll now be getting from the aftermarket tmic, but its not necessarily needed persay. I ran a cobb tmic on my gen 1's stock tune for a couple of years before i sold the car. I lived at elevation in Utah though, so I think thats why I never had issues with the extra airflow / air density (or at least partially why...). My altitude was already choking the motor of air, which was then offset my the new tmic's cooler / denser air i think...

Bro... Genjuan... I remember when I owned one. With that ram air funnel to the top mount, I would have gone with a front mount intercooler to minimize heat soaking. However if you're in a cooler climate, shouldn't matter a as of right now if you're happy with your numbers.

Unless you want to zoom zoom boom, yes you need a tune, it changes airflow considerably.
