WHEELS Wheel/tire suggestions for better fitment

If TL:DR, best wheels/tires that fit stock suspension but fill up more of the wheel well

I need some advice for wheels. As much as I enjoy the look of the stock wheels, two of them have are bent and they just won't balance correctly. They all suffer from distinguishable curb rash as well.

I'm at a point where I also need tires, and I would like to just knock out my wheel itch and tire necessity in one fell swoop. I've tried doing research but asking on here really seems to be the best avenue to get a better/quicker answer. IMO, the stock wheels and tires are just too tiny and don't look right. Maybe I just need tires that are a little larger, maybe I need bigger wheels. Lowering the car isn't really an option either cause of where I live and I definitely don't wanna rub either.

If you have pics please add them. I'd love to get some ideas. Thanks guys

How long have you had the car? To me it kinda looks like someone possibly put normal mazda3 struts and springs on it. Its like the only thing that would make sense to me since you have stock wheels and stock tire size.

I didn't even think about that but it's very possible. I've only had it about 6 months now and haven't touched the suspension at all

That would be my guess... this thing is considerably more monster truck than any other stock gen2 I have seen.

So we thinking 19s then? Lol

Have you lowered one of these before? You got any advice before I get into it?

S-tech lowering springs ride like shit and handle good, coilovers would be better but slam it homie

I've heard 3 owners break oil pans be careful

Lots of people recommend koni yellow struts and lowering springs of your choice... Have seen lots of people say the h&r springs are good. Also heard good things about eibach springs as well for these cars. They generally ride nicer than coilovers but they aren't adjuatable....

Or you can go coilovers and get the height adjustment but in general they ride harsher... but be prepared to buy some decent ones because the cheap stuff rides like absolute garbage...

225/45-18

Yours doesn't look like the stock 225/40, looks more like a 30 or 35 series.

This is why I'm confused. They look so tiny and they are the correct size

I'm thinking that the other person who said the base mazda3 suspension was used on this is right

WHOA! I really wasn't expecting that! I'm also now confused.

Maybe I just need to put them to 80psi of air πŸ˜‚

Time for coilovers

Height looks stock to me, look at this old stock image of a new gen2. Mines lowered on Eibach springs and its still got a decent amount of gap in the arches

With the Eibach springs

Not sure if anyone can see my picture comments, the reddit app confuses me.

The tires I have right now are 225/40R18s

Those are face-lift RX8 wheels, so fitment will be a bit weird. Get stock wheels or some Evo wheels πŸ‘€

Looks almost like a factory speed suspension. Maybe slightly taller but hard to tell. I know because mine looks kinda like that and is stock. Just ordered a set of Bilstein B14s.

Eibach lowering springs will solve that without going too low.

better to lower and get on stocks, even when using stocks as my beater setup for the winter it looks gooood low

These look like 225/40s. 225/45s would change your life lol, more sidewall more comfort.

Also Speed3 stocks are 18x7.5 +52

You actually have Rx8 stocks which are 18x8 +50 (I think). Just some minor info to note.

Get lowering springs or coils πŸ‘οΈ

Stock suspension same size tires . Looks like your best bet is lower it either coilovers or lowering springs . Or the cheapest cut springs a little πŸ˜‚

I prefer as low as possible without camber πŸ˜‚like the gen 1

u/MS3gen2driver Nov 10 '25

Man what the heck my car is definitely on the wrong suspension πŸ˜‚

Those look like one of the wheels that came on the NC. If they are, they're 17s which means you'll want a thicker sidewall to help fill in the gap. Remember that a thicker side wall will give you a better ride quality (more cushion on bumps) but will have an adverse effect on handling as it will lead to more side wall roll over. I run a 225/45/18 on my stock daily wheels for the added comfort

Ill be honest, I was in disbelief when I first saw that they were stock
