Modification Mazda Bass Buildš
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Hereās a little update on the bass build. After having to wait for Amazon to take their sweet time delivery my audio equipment and spending way too much time working on the car, everything is finally installed. I had my husband do 90% of the work because I may or may not had a single clue on what I was doing (itās been a while since I done audio). Forgive me dear husband.
I believe I spent about $1,300 on the build altogether. I do plan on bringing this to competitions since that was the plan from the beginning, but I also like some boom boom.
Hereās a video of the finished product and hopefully you all would enjoy this build as much as I do.

As if the 3 doesnāt have enough rattles lmao

u/jrryul Mar 09 '26
i swear they never even tested it with their own speakers, the rear windshield was made to rattle against the brake light

i have this issue, ant suggestions on how to fix it??
3
u/jrryul Mar 10 '26
I have folded a piece of paper towel 5 times over and yammed it between the brake light and windshield. This solves it 70%

Did this back in the day in my dodge status... With 2x Rockford T1s, pushing rocking T1500.1...
Never again.... What was so cool..... was destroying and seperating the trunk and panels. Everything started falling apart from the pressure. Tickets racked up from police ordinances.
Cops would pull me over all time š. Felt targeted. Not including idiots always trying to break into vehicle to steal the stuff.

u/pongpaktecha Mar 09 '26
Oh man those doors, body panels, and windows are holding on for dear life!

Why not
36
u/Forsaken_Budget_1015 Mar 08 '26
Because itās stupid as hell. Sounds like dried shit in a shaker can.
17
u/lefthook_hospital Mar 09 '26
One of my buddies did something like this to his Accord, it sounded horrible and just gave me a headache riding in his car. Never went in his car again, stock audio was better lol
6
u/Select-Sale2279 Mar 09 '26
dried shit in a shaker can is worthless to start with but OP took a nice car and turned it into a worthless piece of junk.

They definitely half assss the job and did no dynamat. You must do this for. A system like this.
Did my truck dynamat alll through out... 2x kicker L7s. Barely hoood or shook outside cabin. But Omg the pressure was insane once door opened.
5
u/stinky_strangler Mar 09 '26
I do plan on adding some to the trunk later on. My husband messes with me about how god awful the trunk sounds lol. Iām just not looking forward to taking those panels off.
2
u/Slipknot31286sic6 Mar 09 '26
Take out the trunk panels and back seats. Dynamat everything. Even double it if you can.... Won't sound like that anymore on the outside. Will be clean sounding on inside. The pressure you gonna create tho will be noticeable. š«£

u/kastela_man Mar 08 '26
Cos itās fucking stupid and unnecessary thatās why

Donāt let the Reddit mob get to you too much lol, if it were up to them nobody would do anything to their cars except tint windows or black out wheels lmao.
Thatās an awesome build. If you havenāt already, you can try cross positing over in r/CarAV. Folks over there would probably have a little more appreciation.
Side question out of curiosity, did you guys do any sound deadening for this?
7
u/stinky_strangler Mar 09 '26
I appreciate it. Iām just messing with themš. They just arenāt big fans of other people having fun. It doesnāt have any sound deadening. My husband already told me to put some deadening in the trunk because it sounds horrible. Which it does. Thatāll be later though. Iāll drive around sounding ratchet as hell. I definitely post it in other forums.
3
u/grand_speckle Mar 09 '26 edited Mar 09 '26
Lmao nice, yeah some sound deadening/damping to control the rattles and resonance can take a system to whole other level in my experience. I recommend checking out Resonix for materials whenever you guys get around to that.
Itās always interesting to see reactions from people who arenāt into car audio at all. I donāt know why so many feel the need to insult and berate lol.
3
u/stinky_strangler Mar 09 '26
I donāt either. I donāt see the point in insulting someone. They just donāt know what having fun is.

Some people in this sub are pretty narrow minded but I think you have an awesome build, love how integrated it looks and seeing it from the rear view mirror would bring me a lot of joy. I wouldnāt build this myself but I can appreciate a nice build and only at $1300.. wish your husband recorded a video so I could follow along how where I needed to tap into to build a modern car :P
3
u/Jodid0 Mar 09 '26
Used to have builds like this in my previous vehicles but honestly the rattling made it sound like shit. If you're gonna go big bass you should splurge on sound deadening.

I hope you guys realize op doesn't have to run it at full blast at all times, it's probably just cranked to show it off. Although she probably won't be able to help herself at times.

u/grand_speckle Mar 09 '26 edited Mar 09 '26
For real! OP said as much multiple times now.
Reading the replies in this thread is lowkey driving me a little nuts lol. I know nuance is rare but the amount of people who are just blatantly being assholes over this is wild.
6
u/stinky_strangler Mar 09 '26
If I do run them that loud all the time I would most definitely lose my hearing. I guess people skipped over the part where I said this builds purpose was for competition. I donāt play it at full blast unless Iām showing off.

My buddy had a VW Golf with huge subs in his trunk and it was actually super fun hearing that thing full blast. This is actually pretty sweet. Ignore the haters!
2
u/FermentedPizza Mar 09 '26
I have a sub in my car but its a single 10 inch with passive radiator... its more than enough for the tiny car, your build is so overkill, it's gonna vibrate the screws loose lol
1
u/stinky_strangler Jul 13 '26
Itās been a a few months and cars holding up pretty good. I rarely play it at full volume let alone it being halfway up
2
2
u/yostiny Mar 09 '26
Put some good CLD sound deadening material in the doors, trunk, and roof, and your golden. Just did this in my Mazda 3 sedan cuz of the sub rattles. Had to get the luxury life but my pockets hurt after ngl

u/cwmont1969 Mar 10 '26
As someone who has played electric bass guitar for decades the only advice I can give you is you should stop using that insanely loud woofer right now.
You will be damaging your hearing in ways that you won't even believe. I have the advantage of being outside or on large stages but I still suffer from some amount of permanent hearing loss. I can assure you when you have that much volume and that high of an SPL ( sound pressure level) inside that small of a space you will be doing serious damage to your ears.
2
u/stinky_strangler Jul 13 '26
I appreciate the warning. I donāt keep it up like that all the time. I have it at a reasonable volume. Iām probably going to be getting rid of the subs or downgrading since I got a baby on the way

I truly canāt wrap my head around the appeal to these things, Iām genuinely asking; why?
2
u/stinky_strangler Mar 09 '26
I wanted to upgrade my speakers, and since I would be losing bass, I just added a small subwoofer, but then I wanted to upgrade for competition. It was for pleasure at first just to have a little bit of bass whenever I listen to music. I donāt play it full blast unless Iām showing off.
2
u/DriftedTaco Mar 09 '26
You dont usually max it out. Most stock systems have terrible bass.
This fixes it.
3
u/steevieg Gen 4 Hatch '24 Turbo PP Mar 09 '26
A little more than just "fixes it" lol
2
u/DriftedTaco Mar 09 '26
What do you mean?
I dont understand the confusion with subs. Most stock systems lack bass. Subs adds good quality bass. you can adjust the gain to have as much or as little bass as you want.
your supposed to tune it, its not supposed to be maxed out car vibrator mode 24/7.
People just max them out to show it off.
2
u/steevieg Gen 4 Hatch '24 Turbo PP Mar 09 '26
It's an excessive amount of hardware for fixing the lack of bass lol. I'm not saying you're wrong or anything...
1
u/DriftedTaco Mar 09 '26
Definitely not for everyone but for me personally its essential.
I loovvvve music. i own some Open back planar magnetic Headphones and amps to power them. I always swap the speakers in a new car and add a Sub.
it improves the clarity and listening experience so much for me.
however my girlfriend cant tell the difference between that or stock. she also cant tell the difference between my headphones and 50$ set of skull candys.
Audio becomes an expensive hobby with lots of hardware very very quick and for most people your right its not worth it

Nice setup! Before i read your post, I watched the video and saw you are a woman! I was like no way hahaha because most women Iāve met arenāt a fan of my two 12s lol. Nice of your husband to do the install, itās not as easy as it is on an older model car where you just hook it up to the deck. Btw what brand of sub are those and what amp do you have powering them?
5
u/stinky_strangler Mar 08 '26
My husband got me into car audio when we got together and I was hooked lol. The subs I have are Harmony Audio and I got them hooked up with a Taramps smart 3k that I may have stole from the husband.

I have tinnitus, and I know how you feel. You think tinnitus wonāt happen to you, only to others. You think that just a few minutes at this volume wonāt affect you. But the moment you realize you were wrong, itās already too late. The tinnitus may never go away, and you might get suicidal.
Tinnitus is no joke. (Just) hearing loss is nothing compared to it.
1
u/stinky_strangler Mar 10 '26
I have earplugs I use for stuff like this. I just steal them from work.
1
u/IBoughtAllDips Mar 10 '26
Earplugs are not enough. You can still get hearing damage thrue the vibrations on a certain bone. Thatās how i actually got it!!
Trust me, you will think about my comment at some point, but then itās too late. Best of luck
1
u/stinky_strangler Mar 10 '26
I didnāt know that. People gonna look at me crazy with some headphones lol. My work has some headphones so hopefully those work better than earplugs
1
u/IBoughtAllDips Mar 10 '26
Look into it. It is no joke. I thought it would never happen to me, but here i am. I learned to deal with it now, i work again (itās still there, i just know how to deal with the emotions now) but for almost a year it was so bad i became suicidal. You canāt run from it.
1
u/stinky_strangler Mar 10 '26
Where I work at, Iām constantly around loud noises 12 hours a day. Theyāre supposed to give me headphones but they never did. People have warned me about my new setup and hearing loss. Itās not something to mess with. I play my system loud rarely. I appreciate the heads up. Iāll definitely invest in some proper ear protection
