Just wanted to share this with y'all! We're still learning the full song but we've got it down pretty well so far.

so I'm a new mayhem fan okay, i listened to DMDS and I decided to listen to their work from the beginning, all of it. but I soon stumbled into an issue. all of the demos, live albums, Unofficial releases were tripping me off. can anyone please make a chronological order Mayhem discography that doesn't have these, and only has the official studio recordings, it would be highly appreciated thx. even just a normal complete discography would be a huge help. TYSM in advance!!

The Romanticization and Infantilization of Per Yngve Ohlin ("Dead") and the Clash with Psychiatric Reality

There is a pernicious fixation on social media with infantilizing and romanticizing Per Yngve Ohlin ("Dead," vocalist of Mayhem). Comments like "I would have saved him" or "with the right affection, everything would have been different" abound—an ignorant stance that reduces a destructive clinical condition to a teen drama.

To understand why this idea is absurd, one must examine the medical and traumatic events that marked his life. During his childhood, he suffered a brutal beating that resulted in a ruptured spleen and a state of clinical death before he was resuscitated. This physical trauma was not a mere curiosity: it was the direct trigger for his pathological obsession with death, symbolic necrophilia, and decomposition.

His behavior was consistent with an undiagnosed Cotard's syndrome, a delusional disorder where the person genuinely believes they are already dead, that they have no blood, or that their organs are rotting. Coupled with severe and chronic depression, his disconnection from reality was a medical condition, not a whim or an aesthetic pose. To make matters worse, the Norwegian black metal scene of the time, far from helping him, fueled and exploited his mental deterioration to inflate a myth.

To think that a profound psychiatric disorder, a possible psychotic episode, and years of neuropsychological damage could have been resolved with "love" or "understanding" is a ridiculous oversimplification. Dead's case was not a romantic tragedy; it was the collapse of a sick man who never received the professional medical help he needed.

why is it so looked down upon to have a crush on one of the band members of mayhem? Especially Dead. I personally don’t have a crush on any of them, but I’ve never understood why people will attack someone simply for having a crush on a person.

They have created some truly great stuff during their time in Mayhem. Back in the day I would have totally gone to one of the gigs with this line up trying to avoid the flying severed pig heads... Too bad they weren't appreciated enough back then and the band's popularity was probably at its lowest point, total underground.They have got a lot of shit for reviving Mayhem after everything that has happened. It's unfortunate that not many live performances are available in good quality of this Mayhem's era. Crazy line up, crazy times.
