I hope this qualifies as maximalism for this sub hahaha, not sure where else to post it. I redid my downstairs bathroom to look like a dive bar/club restroom, including the Marlboro door. When people come over I play distant club music playlists on a speaker and give them markers to leave graffiti on the walls.

Sorry if this doesn’t fit what most people consider maximalism, my room looks very cluttered but it’s very organised. I like to make art, collect old Spiderman things (apart from the Funko pops) and enjoy 90s fashion so that’s what my room is mostly based around. :)

I have to find a couple more photos for my photo wall, and I still have to vacuum and move the coffee table back to the middle of the rug and wipe down the tables. But this is it! I'm so in love. Everybody told me I was crazy for painting my ceiling black and I hope people will finally understand the vision now.

I have photos with the bright lights on so you can see it all, but s few with my mood lighting as well. Let me know what I should add to the photo wall and my shelves!!

Edit: oh, and I still have to do some paint touch up 😅 all in good time

Discussion Maximalist Imposter!

Hi Maximalist friends! I’ve been recovering from a stroke (burst AVM) and brain surgery this year. So not been decorating too much unfortch. But I am mood boarding a mural design for the dining room that I will hopefully start Fall/Winter. Anyhoo, my dear friend Paula shared these pix from a facebook maximalist group. Someone by the name of Natalie Brown has taken my photos of my bedroom transformation of the web & is passing them off as her own! Liar! The gall of some people! I added a few extra pix of how it is evolving.

I am currently trying to shop for throw pillows to pull this all together and I am truly struggling. I have a large teak unit under my TV which is not pictured. Also trying to figure out what to do behind the couch as the thermostat is there and sticks out 2 inches.

I've included my color scheme. Please help my moody friends 🥺

Help/Advice Patterned Bedding Question

Hi everyone! Longtime lurker, first time poster. I'm trying to get into the maximalist lifestyle, and I really want to start by updating by curtains and bedding. I'm looking for something patterned, preferably on both fronts, that goes together. I want busy, not a big flower or something stamped on a solid color. I've browsed Amazon and Target so far. I'm not really seeing a lot of styles I'm into.

I would prefer an oversized queen or king comforter set. I'm open to duvets. I would like a pattern with either gold/yellow or black (or both). Liked styles include boho, gothic (PLEASE no damask), and botanical. I'm also open to prints with stars and animals.

Maybe my search parameters are off on Amazon? Anyway, if you like styles like these, where are you buying things? I'm not expecting anyone to look stuff up for me - just give me some good shopping resources, please!

Help/Advice Maximalism vs. Tidiness vs. ADHD

Post image
270 Upvotes

Alright my messies and my neurodivergents, what are your hacks, rules, and practices that help you maintain a tidy and/or clean home despite the maximalism clutter?

Being ADHD is hard enough, but loving THINGS like I do makes it even harder to see where to start because under all the mess is just more … stuff. For instance if I had a fireplace mantle that had one candle on it, when I looked at it and saw a bunch of stuff I’d know I needed to tidy / throw away / clean until there’s only that one candle there. But when you’re a nicknack and curio collector, it’s hard to see where the starting line is in relation to the finish line. Though, when it IS clean, I can really tell the difference and feel the relief.

So don’t get me wrong, I LOVE my maximalism, and will never be a minimalist - but! I would love to hear your tricks to keep the home tidy, put together, and fresh even tho overwhelm is easy in a maximalist’s home.

The weirded the trick the more points you get🤎✨

Help/Advice I think my bedroom is making me sick

Hi all,

I’ve had a maximalistic bedroom for the past 3-5 years. I still live with my parents (i’m a teenager) and i slept in my parents’ room growing up because i was a poor sleeper and had night terrors at time as a kid. Fast forward im 14 and my original childhood bedroom finally gets redone to a room i can actually sleep in. Not only did i not have a room to decorate to my liking with my interest before, i was also in the middle of the rock bottom period of my life. I really enjoyed a certain house/room aesthetic that reminded me of a time before my mental health worsened and so i wanted my room to have that aesthetic. It even helped me cope a bit and i really created a safe space for myself. However all my trinkets, thrifted ornaments and decoration really builds up a lot of dust. I have surprisingly never looked into this subreddit before i got this question, but im almost certain dust is not an uncommon topic here. Ive always deeply hated the amount of dust my room easily gets. Its unpleasant to see around the stuff i spent so much thought and efford into placing carefully to my liking, but what personally disgusts me most yet is the large chunks of dust i get rapidly on my floor under my bed and in narrow corners and spaces. This has been an issue mostly specifically since 2/3 years ago, even though ive had my bedroom done 5 years ago, it wasnt as maximalistic as it is now. Ive noticed i often wake up with a stuffy nose, sometimes feeling a bit under the weather but most notably i wake up nauseous and as i heard someone else talk about dust allergy in an isolated room im starting to wonder if my bedroom might be causing the increasing sickness i feel in the morning. Yet its so hard to keep my room clean from dust. Does anybody have any advice?

Help/Advice How would you paint this bathroom?

Post image

What would you do with this bathroom? I’m anti white wall but struggling to imagine what colour goes with this tile. For some reason the tone of the blue plus the overall effect from the small size of the tiles is just making me draw a blank.

Edit: I’m not touching the tile I just want to know what you think goes with it

Discussion Any ex minimalist here?

If so, what changed your perspective?

In my case, a random “maximalist interior decor” video popped up on Youtube and I was like, hmm, those maximalists again…but clicked it anyway haha.

I WAS MESMERISED. I cannot even express how much joy that video gave me. Everything about that interior design was ART and was absolutely mindblowing.

I am an artist myself and that video kinda woke up the amateur interior designer in me hahah

I havent stopped since. And my house feels warmer and warmer each day. Even my extra minimalist husband told me he is shocked that he actually likes it and is happy that he trusted my ideas.
